Colby easily my choice.  They must bring that back.  Tufts 2, Midd 3.

Caz Bombers

Tie between Colby and Bowdoin followed closely by Tufts

Gate90

Which team can least afford their number one QB to not be able to suit up?

nescac1

Regarding the least-afford-to-lose a QB question, I'd say the best QBs in the league, and their presumptive back-ups, are:

1. Michael Berluti, Tufts - Matt Crowley
2. Spencer Fetter, Trinity - Zander Zebrowski
3. Cole Kennon, Middlebury - ???
4. Niko Candido, Wesleyan - ???
5. Colton Bosselai, Bates - Liam Foley
6. Andrew Boel, Bowdoin - Robbie Long or Sean Ramos

There is a big gap after the top three QBs, so it has to be one of those three.  Berluti is the best player in the league, but Tufts also has the best back-up QB, as I imagine Crowley would probably start at 4-5 other NESCAC schools this year.  As good as Fetter is, Trinity is so loaded with talent everywhere, plus Zebrowski is a very experienced back-up QB (and they have some young guys who could steal that job, to boot).  So I'll go with Cole Kennon, as Midd has no other QBs on the roster who have ever thrown a pass, he is right there with Fetter for the number two spot overall, and Midd has no plan B if it doesn't get very strong play from the QB position.

Very interesting...totally hypothetical as we want ZERO injuries or setbacks to ANY student athletes...but for the sake of discussion only;

Looking at rosters, I'd say nescac1 is on to something.  I'll throw out my thoughts based on very little research, other than stats of the #2's & HS film of the presumptive #3's;

1) Midd
2) Wesleyan
3) Bowdin

As mentioned here previously, FY QB phenom Sean Ramos has arrived in Brunswick with a very impressive HUDL tape and credentials of success in a well established Texas football program.

His HUDL site shows his beauty contest stats at 5'10' 175. I'm told he came in at 5'9" and was on the south side of 150 lbs.

These HUDL packages are manipulated in many/most cases-- but you can't rig the game tape. This kid has tremendous talent and will succeed in the NESCAC. I'll only suggest to my Polar Bear friends that he may need a little more some time to develop than they thought.

It's clearly a QB battle between Boel and the Lefty at Bowdoin.

Amid all this QB hoopla in Brunswick some interesting QB developments over at Bates. Coach Coyne and his young staff have quietly brought in an impressive FY QB talent. Seneca Moore 6'1" 173  from Holt Mi.

Recruited by Princeton, Dartmouth, Columbia, Davidson and MAC schools among others.....this is a score for Coyne and it comes from under the radar.

Multiple conversations with a vast number of people in the Bates Academic and Athletic community over the past year confirms Coyne has been very impressive to all. He has developed a strong support group. His biggest attribute which extends beyond his football accumen is his great intelligence. This is a very smart individual.

It will be interesting this year in Lewiston- a significant rebuilding year where the Bobcats will have several FY starters following the loss of their 4 top receivers and almost everyone in the LB and DB positions. Realistically the target for real progress is 2024. However you won't hear excuses from Coyne, he will have this team ready to play and they will compete. Don't rule out surprises.

The favorite in the Pine Tree State is clearly the White Mules who seem to have everyone back. The only question is at QB. I'd guess they have a pretty good guy in former QB Cosgrove to get a young guy ready.

BigKat

Define " recruited by" Princeton, Harvard, Columbia etc.? Very familiar with their QB beauty contest numbers and 175 would be several cheeseburgers shy ;) Wish the man nothing but luck in Maine.

I'll define it this way. Moore had official visits to those schools and at least one MAC school.
There's a 5 Guys Burger location a stones throw from the Bates campus so several cheeseburgers should be no problem.

Let's also keep in mind very undersized. He better have wheels and can throw on the run otherwise one hit away from trainers room.

Charlie-

Seneca Moore needs to get bigger and he will in the Bates weight program. However, I wouldn't call 6'1" 175 (some say closer to 6'2") very undersized in the NESCAC but no question he needs to add some weight. He will be 185-190 at this time next year.

Are you confusing him with FY QB Ramos at Bowdoin who came in at 5'9" <150 ?

Moore has wheels and he can throw- from the pocket or on the run. Finished 2nd or 3rd in Michigan HS track championships this spring in the 110m hurdles and was part of one of the best 4 x 100m relay teams in the state.

Wishing the best for all these guys, including Mr. Moore!

Passing stats look OK...but I wouldn't get "too excited" about the wheels Lumber.... ;)

Seriously...nothing but the best, but staying realistic.

LochNesc

On Moore--- "Don't get too excited about the wheels".......LOL, really?

How about this for "being realistic"....... Moore's 14.68 time in the 110m hurdles in the Michigan state meet was significantly faster than the winning time in the NESCAC championships in the spring. He would have won the NECAC championships with ease.

We are very excited about the wheels- not sure where you came up with that one.

While we wait for more preseason news to trickle out, how about a little fun; who has the best throwback logo in the NESCAC?

Hamilton didn't even try......

GroundandPound

I am disappointed to see how little playing time Helbig got and how few throws there were to Lutz.   I believe they are as good or better than some of their teammates who got much more time or throws. Do their current coaches not want to discourage their traditional recruits by playing d3 transfers more?  Should other d3 players thinking of transferring up divisions take this as a message it may make more sense to finish their college careers at their current colleges?  Lutz could have lead his team to a title and broken countless NESCAC receiving records. Helbig - same and defensive records. If their academic pursuits were served best by transferring then playing substantially less does not matter. If not, then I wish they stuck around.
