While we wait for more preseason news to trickle out, how about a little fun; who has the best throwback logo in the NESCAC?

Hamilton didn't even try......
I don't really understand...is this something the league did and the schools submitted throwback logos, or just something Trin 9-0 put together?

On Moore--- "Don't get too excited about the wheels".......LOL, really?

How about this for "being realistic"....... Moore's 14.68 time in the 110m hurdles in the Michigan state meet was significantly faster than the winning time in the NESCAC championships in the spring. He would have won the NECAC championships with ease.

We are very excited about the wheels- not sure where you came up with that one.

I came up with that one from his Soph, Junior, & Senior rushing stats;

Career rushing total;  124 yards on 127 carries....

Fast on the track no doubt...but Im not too jazzed about that average....

but hey...who knows....almost seems impossible??   Maybe bad info!?!

I am disappointed to see how little playing time Helbig got and how few throws there were to Lutz.   I believe they are as good or better than some of their teammates who got much more time or throws. Do their current coaches not want to discourage their traditional recruits by playing d3 transfers more?  Should other d3 players thinking of transferring up divisions take this as a message it may make more sense to finish their college careers at their current colleges?  Lutz could have lead his team to a title and broken countless NESCAC receiving records. Helbig - same and defensive records. If their academic pursuits were served best by transferring then playing substantially less does not matter. If not, then I wish they stuck around.

We're talking about two D3 transfers that went to a nationally ranked FCS program and a school that plays in the ACC. Neither are physical specimens for their new levels and expecting that they would fit in seamlessly and produce at a relatively high level is a little bit of a stretch. Maybe it will change, maybe it won't, but I don't really think there is anything worth reading into. And both graduated from their NESCAC schools so the rest is really gravy.

On the flipside, Logan Tomlinson caught a TD pass in his UNH debut today. He looks like he will have a decent year this year, but he has two years left. Next year he could really make a splash.

Thats bad info.
Regardless, all stats aside, I've seen the kid in person a couple times now at Bates.  He's got speed to burn and throws it better than originally thought.

Couldn't agree more with SpringSt7.

GroundandPound- you sound like a frustrated high school football dad when junior sits on the bench. To say you know Helbig and Lutz are "as good or better" than their teammates who got game reps is absurd. You have no idea.

There is no hidden agenda against them. If their respective coaching staffs determine they are good enough and ready to play and help the team win they will be on the field.

However, that remains to be seen. They may need more time to develop and/or they might only get a chance if there are injuries.

At the end of the day I think we would all like to see them do well on the big stage.

The COVID opened up some some unique athletic and academic opportunities for these kids. Even at the NESCAC level they train and encourage kids to set the bar high and strive to become the best they can be and these kids followed that credo.

When a kid like Helbig moves on in life he doesn't need to be thinking he had a shot to play in the ACC that he passed up. Good to see these guys embrace the challenge. Hope it works out well for both. Also, at the end of the day it's great academic opportunity for these kids as well.

Pat Coleman

While I would love for our guys to get more touches at these higher levels, I'm going to trust the coaches who see them every day in practice.

Thanks Lumber...appreciate the inside info...

Has anybody heard anything about Bates transfer WR Mohammed Diawara or Tufts transfer Joshua Merriweather? I believe they landed at Marist and Tennessee State respectively. Obviously they were not as big of stars on the NESCAC as Lutz, Tomlinson, and Helbig, but if we're talking NESCAC to D1 jumps, we might as well get full updates.

Also, has anyone heard any news around the league from training camp? We've heard a lot about the CBB, but are there any other reports from the more likely contenders in the league?

The Mole

Diawara at Marist, did not appear in the starting lineup or participation list in a 49-17 loss to Georgetown yesterday
Nick Helbig played 8 snaps (most late) in Wake Forest romp over FCS Elon
Logan Tomlinson started for New Hampshire and had 2 catches for 32 yards and a TD vs Stonehill in 51-17 win
Phil Lutz 2 catches 11 yards for Delaware in win over Stony Brook

Not sure who that kid/player is but if you aren't seeing field at Marist......

Believe Diawara has a hamstring. On the first year of 2 years eligibility.

He wasn't even the #1 option on a very bad gates team last year so I don't know why anyone would expect him to jump a level and contribute more. Even if it is on a Marist squad that is also pretty bad.

The Mole

Marist has been the epitome of average for the last 32 years, the top teams in the NESCAC could compete with them. Thought Diawara might be able to help them potentially in the return game. The best teams in the Pioneer like Dayton, St Thomas, San Diego and most recently Davidson are head and shoulders above the rest of the league. Drake has been respectable as well. But Valpo, Butler, Morehead, Stetson and Presbyterian ain't juggernauts.

Summer Camp Update:

Middlebury - Junior Receiver Donovan Wood apparently out indefinitely with injury

Williams - Fischetti focus of offense for the Ephs

Colby - Still ongoing debate with starting QB

lumbercat

It's a QB dogfight at Colby- I'm told BB player Miles Drake has performed very well.

At Bowdoin the lefty is pushing Boel hard.

With the Garnet, Bosseleit is the guy at QB but FY Moore has been very impressive and bigger than advertised weighing in at 189.
Keep this kid on your radar.
