On the positive side, I did hear that Amherst has buses procured for the trip to Midd. So at least they have that going for them.

With the hurricane time change, does anyone else feel like this Wesleyan/Bates game has all the makings of a week 1 upset? Wes has a penchant for playing down to their opponents, and being undisciplined in recent years. With the sudden change, new look rosters on both sides, and road night game atmosphere, I can't help but feel like the Cards are walking into a buzzsaw tonight. Would be a story book way to start off year 2 of the Coyne era in Lewiston.

Tremendous job trolling Scoops....plus 1 to you!!!

While I do thoroughly appreciate a good troll job (see my history with Charlie), I am being quite serious here. We will know in a couple of hours, but I would not be stunned if the kitties pulled one over on the Cards.

Rumored Midd WR Donovan Wood ruled out for contest against Amherst

— Bates V Wes —

Interesting showing by both teams. First game of the season so hard to tell early on, but both look like capable teams with some kinks to work out. Secondary on both teams seem subject to large exposure. Holes will need to be filled.

Overall great way to start the NESCAC season.

Not a meteorologist but Bates @ Tufts is pretty close to the water and goes at 6:30, while the others all go at 1:00.

That game isn't this weekend.

Thanks Pat.

Breaking news, Wes in NESCAC first place. ;D

Seriously, here's an idea for the NESCAC to consider....like the NFL does, pick one game every year on opening weekend on a rotating schedule as the featured opening game of the season and play it under the lights on Friday night like the Wes v. UBates game this year. We know that this year's game was just by chance but it was a great atmosphere, a lot of fun, and a great way to get the 2023 season started. Let's do it every year!

For all those who celebrate, the Amherst roster is out. I believe no fifth-year seniors.  The biggest losses (both anticipated) of eligible players are Oschenshirt and Swope.

Just based on stats, Bates' first-year TB seems like a player to watch ....and speaking of tailbacks, Wesleyan seems to have the opposite issue from Williams.  The Ephs are perpetually loaded at TB but struggle to find many productive receivers, while Wesleyan always has star receivers but it's been awhile since they've even had a TB approach 500 yards.  And the early results against a very young Bates defensive front don't suggest this year will be different.

QB threw for 341 yards, 3 TDs and no INTs, and despite the stats, Cards ran the ball when they had to with two bigger backs. Too many negative yardage plays in the run game but Wesleyan dominated the game, sorry to disappoint you, Scoops.

Wes gave up 128 yards passing, 34 on one TD play (nice throw and catch) sound the alarm

Williams trails 14-12 at the half to Colby thanks to a high snap on a punt resulting in Colby taking over at the 1, a puzzling decision to go for it on 4th down from their own 30, a blocked XP, and a failed 2PC. Jack Dickinson made it about 2 drives before being pulled for Owen McHugh who has dazzled so far - 6-7 for 82 yards and 2 TDs, both to fellow 1Y Holden Gerig - the second one legitimately made me gasp, a back foot 3/4 throw over the seam, to go with 42 rushing yards. He might be legit.

For Colby, Miles Drake has been more than solid. He looks the part, commands the pocket, and has the arm to make the throws. Will be interesting to see how he plays in the second half. Both defenses have been excellent as well.

It's reallysad  watching Amherst football and basketball these days. The Amherst football offense might be the most unimaginative and poorly run offense I've seen in a long time. Their basketball program really misses Hixon. Recruiting is down in both sports.Hoping for a rebound at some point.
