Bates - Williams football cancelled.  Seems like the only move they could make. What a horrific situation for Maine.

Can't believe the shooter is still at large.  Hope they apprehend him soon and that our government actually takes steps to prevent the next massacre.  Jared Golden's change of heart is a good start.

No official call on cancellation yet- 0900 am is when the official call will be made.

The Mole

Hope they are able to play, even if venues have to be switched up

Puts things in perspective...

Safety first, of course...but we can't let madmen and terrorists dictate how we live. We must persevere.

Just to explain my prior post - Williams posted on social media that the game was cancelled.  But that post seems to be down now ...

NescacNewbie

According to the Nescac website schedule, the Williams @ Bates game is cancelled.

Would imagine Lewiston is safest place in the world right now. But understand the optics and logic of it.

Assume all three Maine games would have to track the same way, correct?

All Maine games have been postponed

This would be totally justifiable, but where are you seeing/hearing this? NESCAC website only shows the Bates/Williams game being postponed.... The site did say "Cancelled" earlier this morning.

Here's the latest...NESCASCMAN's sources tell us that all NESCAC football games in Maine are postponed for this Saturday, meaning there will only be 2 NESCAC games on the schedule for this week. The games will be played the weekend after week #9 (November 18) so we get a bonus week of NESCAC football. As an aside, we're pleased that it appears that the NESCAC handled this difficult situation appropriately, IOO.

We're hoping this whole saga comes to an end quickly and safely.

As per the Bowdoin website, the Trinity at Bowdoin game has been rescheduled for Nov. 18.

2023 Week #7 NESCACMAN Picks

Before we get into this week's picks, we just want to once again offer our thoughts and prayers to our friends in Central Maine affected by the tragic events that have impacted their lives over the last several days. Hopefully, someday, events like this will never happen again. With that, let's move to something far less important, this week's picks, minus the 3 games slated for Maine and rescheduled for NESCAC "Week 10" on November 18th...

Welcome to Week #6 in the NESCAC in "The League where they pay to play"TM...NESCACMAN was 4-1 in week #6 to take us to 23-7 for the season...Finally looks like a nice weekend weather-wise for football...Due to the game postponements, we do not have a GOTW this week...the schedule features Tufts visiting Hamilton College and Amwurst playing at Wesleyan in a Little 3 rivalry game.

Onto this week's games:

Tufts University at Hamilton College: Tufts NESCAC Ranks: Total Offense: 2/Total Defense: 2; Hamilton NESCAC Ranks: Total Offense: 9/Total Defense: 9...Tufts is on a roll at they look for their 6th win in a row...Complete mis-match on paper...Tufts can't look beyond this game as they try to set-up a week 9 game for a shot at the League title...HAM coming off their first win will quickly learn that they aren't playing Colby...Jumbo's have one 8 of the last 10 meetings between the two teams...Tufts passes (and runs) the ball well, Hamilton is last in the NESCAC in defending the pass...HAM is 4th in the NESCAC in rushing...KTV for Tufts: Avoid turnovers...don't look beyond this game..keep playing the way they have been playing...Keys to Victory ("KTV") for Hamilton: Force turnovers, play turnover free and control the ball via the run...hope that Tufts has an off-day...Players to watch: QB Michael Berlutti (TUF), WR Jaden Richardson (TUF), RB Chartellis Reece (TUF), DT Ed Iuteri (TUF), DB Louis Timmons (TUF), TB Nate Wildman (HAM), QB Luke Kurzum (HAM)...Overview: Easy win for the Jumbo's.

Tufts 45 Hamilton 14
Point Spread: Tufts -28
Weather (courtesy of The Weather Channel): Showers in the AM and then partly cloudy in the afternoon. High of 66.

Amwurst College at Wesleyan University: Amwurst NESCAC Ranks: Total Offense-10/Total Defense-4; Wesleyan NESCAC Ranks: Total Offense-5/Total Defense-6... 128th meeting between these teams...Lord Mammoths came back to Earth last week...LM offense is worst in the NESCAC in terms of scoring and yards and also one of the worst in the country in ranking near the bottom terms of total yards and scoring...Defense has been decent, especially against the pass, a category where they are 2nd in the NESCAC...Amwurst has played 3 QBs and went back to their Senior, Mike Piazza last week, after starter, junior Jack Cox was ineffective...In the Lord Mammoths favor: you can throw out the records in Little 3 rivalry games...Wesleyan has looked awesome at times this year (2nd and 3rd quarters against Bowdoin last week, for example) and not great at times (1st half against Tufts, 1st and 4th quarters against Bowdoin)...If Wes comes with their "A" game, Wes should win going away...Wes has play makers all over the field on offense and defense; Lord Mammoths are almost completely devoid of offensive play makers (no QB's, RB's or WR's in the NESCAC Top 10 in any of their respective categories)...Last 3 games between these teams have been decided in OT; Wesleyan holds the 2-1 edge in those games...KTV for Amwurst: Stop the Wes pass attack...keep the game low scoring (only two LM wins, they scored 17 points in each game-their high-water marks in terms of scoring this year)...generate some/any offense...KTV for Wesleyan: Score 17 points or more and you win...continue to make the big plays on offense and defense...Improve 3rd down conversion percentage (9th in the NESCAC)...Players to watch: QB Jack Cox (AMW), LB Luke Harmon (AMH), QB Niko Candido (WES), WR Chase Wilson (WES), LB Jake Edwards (WES), DB Dylan Connors (WES)...Overview: Lord Mammoths do not have a quality win...loss here and the Lord Mammoths clinch another losing season...Finally decent weather for Wes...with the good weather and huge homecoming crowd, we like the Cards to come out strong and get the W.

Weather: Generally sunny. High of 80.
