Early Rating of Pre-Season Social Media
#1 Wesleyan: already posted four days of pre-practice questions to the team (Nicely done!)
#2  Bowdoin: no pre-practice interview but about 4 catchy skits with film inserts of famous folks
#3 Middlebury: one pre-practice video of questions to the team.
Everyone Else: last place.

(One thing did strike me as odd, however, and I am not a nut crunching, granola packing, the ice caps are melting, gotta have wind mills and solar person. The Bowdoin team cooler is packed with plastic bottles of Poland Springs water. Can they get water in a can or carton?  Or, better yet, have a water fountain with one of those fill your water bottle up sections. It just strikes me as odd that a college that prides itself on loving the environment is dealing in plastic bottles.  If Bowdoin is not protecting all the yummy "lobstas" in Maine, then who the heck is?)

Quote from: Scoops on August 25, 2024, 10:03:51 PMAnybody heard any interesting news from the first week or so of NESCAC camps? Personally I'm hearing the Trinity staff is a little worried about the QB competition, and Williams is no better off offensively than they were last season. Any other news around the league?

Our view is we don't think it is going to matter all that much who the QB1 is in '24...with the skill players they have back and the their offensive line, Hartford State will be just fine. Having a "Q" play at anywhere  near Fetter-level would be a luxury for the Bants. We all know they'll be in the mix come November...

No, I did not forget Hamilton...

Ham TB Nate "I Am A" Wildman
Ham DL Aidan "Always Getting'" Held
Ham DL Thomas "No More" Rushing
Ham DB Tani "Way Too" Smart

Charlie

I don't know if anyone knows but Coach Ladas left Wesleyan from last year he was the DB Coach last seasonal at Wesleyan. I do not know what impact that will have on the team thought I would share.

Charlie

Bates hired two new Coaches for this year Alec Brown TE & Kyle Site DB Coach seems to be a constant turnover at Bates hopefully HC Coyne can create some continuity there.

Quote from: lumbercat on August 23, 2024, 10:43:06 AMPuny? I guess, but I wouldn't downplay the quality of play. I think Roger LeClerc may have been on that Trinity team. Played 6 or 7 years for the Chicago Bears.

Roger LeClerc graduated from Trinity in 1960 so he wouldn't have arrived 'neath the elms until the following season. His senior year the Bantams finished 6-1-1 and he did indeed go on to a 7 year career as a linebacker, center, and kicker for the Bears before a final season with the Broncos in the AFL.

During his professional career he was listed at 6'3", 235 lbs which is taller and just slightly lighter than today's average NFL linebacker. That's certainly much lighter than today's NFL offensive lineman, but safe to say far bigger than any kicker.

Charlie you are the undisputed czar of fake news on this board.

No "constant turnover" at Bates.  Since Coyne took the reins 2 assistants have made elevating moves to Coordinator opportunities. Another lower level guy left the coaching profession.

No lateral moves with the Bates staff like the exodus of assistants to lower level positions as we have seen recently from other programs in our area.

Considering the movement of coaches at the D3 level, Coyne has managed a very stable coaching staff.

I know things are slow on the board but quit fabricating stuff.

We can't pass up a chance to pile on...

At all levels of college football today, whether it be FBS, FCS, D2 or D3, beneath the HCOF and Coordinator level, there is constant turnover. Most of the "younger", less experienced coaches are constantly looking to move up the ladder in terms of level, league, team, and position. Musical chairs is the word that comes to mind. NESCAC is not immune from this phenomenon. Position coaches move all the time and this is not an indictment of the coach or the program from which the coach is leaving or going to. It is very much the norm given constant turnover and burnout with coaches working 100+ hour weeks when they are getting started in the football coaching biz.

We would add that although we have not analyzed it (we're sure someone will), we would guess that at the HCOF and the Coordinator level, NESCAC as a league has one of the lowest turnover rates in the country. These jobs are coveted, prestigious, and fairly well compensated for D3. Generally speaking, coaches don't leave, at least by choice, at the higher levels very often. And when they do, literally hundreds of coaches are chomping at the bit to fill the spot.

Trinity posted their season preview. With nine new starters on defense, a new QB and most of their offensive line departing, this may be as close as Trinity gets to a rebuilding year.

It looks like Zander Zebrowski will be QB1 and I'd assume Jake Robbins, the transfer QB from West Virginia University, will handle the backup duties with Jaxson Carroll the 6'4", 200lb sophomore out of Choate to be the quarterback of the future in Hartford. I would expect a very heavy dose of Tyler DiNapoli this season as the Bants transition to an offense that's better suited to their new QB.

There will certainly be enough talent in The Coop to compete with anyone and fortunately many of the younger players now pressed into starting roles have already had a chance to compete on Saturdays as a result of so many games last season turning one-sided early on.

Thankfully, their early season schedule is beneficial with two CBB opponents and the Ephs at home to get their legs underneath them before a huge game on the road in Medford in Week 4.

Couldn't agree more that the first three matchups for the Bants will be massive towards gaining experience for the new starters, especially at QB and the entire defense. Will also allow the coaching staff to shuffle pieces around for a few weeks before the first big matchup in week 4. Very excited to get up to Medford for that week 4 matchup and see the new look Bants defense, once again, take care of Berlutti and the Jumbos.

Good to see so many of the Old Guard back in the 'hood, and Lumber still keeping the youngsters in line.

What did I miss!  Any brewing controversies over Administrations?  New PC mascots?  Snazzy uniforms?  Pronoun confusion?  And what the heck is legendary HCOF Kelton up to these days?

It is a pleasure to see you on the boards again, B2B Bant! I do agree that the early games should be a good tune up for the Week 4 matchup. It should be interesting to see, as I am sure there will be a good amount of change between week 1 and week 4 as their squad gains their footing and comes into form. Knowing what I know about the program, I like their chances this year.

I look forward to catching up over an old fashion and a cigar, toasting to a Bantam victory on Ellis Oval.
