Scoops

NM - that's how good Lutz and Richardson were! They could make the lowly mammoth offense look competent.

Quote from: Scoops on October 28, 2024, 08:40:54 PMHe had 2 legitimate division 1 receivers for the start of his career. It's pretty obvious that they made him, not the other way around. Berluti is certainly no slouch, but I'm sure if you gave Amherst's QB (whichever one they choose to play) Richardson and Lutz, they would have the same kind of success. Those guys were just better than everyone else.

Quote from: NESCACFball24/7 on October 28, 2024, 07:30:04 PMPersonally I think this is about the lack of explosiveness on the offense for tufts this year. They still have tons of talent but they seem to be lacking the GUY that they have 2 or 3 of each of the last couple years. I expected Berluti to be able to make up the difference but he was much more productive the last two years.

Scoops, have you seen the Lord Mammoths play in person the last several years?!?

NESCAC Football Stats pages are screwed up again.

Yes, "broken" since the beginning of the week. They repeated a game for Wes and Mid. Same problem as earlier in the year. Should be fixed by 2026.  ;D

Quote from: RedAndBlack on October 30, 2024, 09:08:43 AMAt this point, whats the difference if Trinity is ranked 1 or 2, with the H2H matchup in week 9. We can assume Trinity will be favored against Amherst to make it to the battle of I-91 with only 1 loss. Wesleyan either wins and week 9 decides who is the champion, or the Cardinals lose and Trinity is ranked #1 in NM's weekly poll (which we can all agree is the real prize)

Thanks to our friend "RedAndBlack" for alluding to something that we announced last week on the 9 Weeks NESCAC Podcast.

For the first-time ever, we will be crowning the real NESCAC Champion (#1 in our final season poll) a really cool and substantial trophy commemorating the 2024 NESCAC Football Champion. No championship ties here (unless we have a wacky 3 or 4 team tie). BTW, It will be way better than what the league hands out. Stay tuned for more info!

Happy Amherst Week, Trinity fans!
Saturday marks 21 years to the day that the (then) Lord Jeffs were reminded to always play to the whistle.

Nescacman, I'll see you at the Wes All Decade Team celebration on Friday where my good friends Pat Moffett and Brennan Carney will be among those honored. I'll do my best to find you at the tailgate the following morning. Perhaps we can discuss the methodology of your rankings.

UNDEFEATED SEASONS: 1911, 1915, 1934, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1993, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2022

I think we should start to be looking at Williams as the next school to drop down the tier rankings. Since Williams championship team back in 2021 Williams has yet to knock of any of the big three. If they so happen to loose this weekend against Wesleyan. Williams football has not beat Trinity , Middlebury & Wesleyan in three years. In fact I will go a step further Bates has had more of a turn around in their program against the big three then Williams.I can honestly say that Bates this year could have had a better year had they beaten some of the teams they should have. Meanwhile Williams has yet to beat a top tier team in three years. We keep giving Coach Raymond a pass and complain about injuries and lack of depth.

I believe a HC Raymond repsonsibility is making sure they have depth , recruit well and more importantly win. At this juncture I believe that they are going backwards rather then forwards.I am curious to see what happens if this years recruiting class does not bear fruit. Williams could quickly find themselves in the bottom tier in the league fast. I feel like the only thing we have been praising the last couple years is there punter.

I think they have a good shot of picking one up this weekend. :)

Hs8-1....should be a fun weekend...

We will, of course, see you Friday night at the Wesleyan All-Decade Dinner celebrating the inductees from 2001-2010. We look forward to that event every year. We will also be toasting All-Time Wesleyan greats Eric Mangini and Matt Perceval on their induction into the Wesleyan Athletics Hall of Fame this weekend, as well. Eric, besides his coaching prowess, was a stellar DL for Wes in the early 90's, and Matt, as has been noted recently here on the D3 Board was one of, if the not the greatest WR in the history of the NESCAC. Eric and Matt will also serve as honorary captains for the game on Saturday against the Purple Cows (the fact that Eric's son, Luke, currently plays for Williams, adds a bit of juice to the festivities).

We will also see you on Saturday at the best tailgate in the NESCAC. Despite the temporary ban on open fires on Saturday as a result of the fire risk due to the extreme weather conditions in Central Connecticut, we have gone to Plan B as far as the menu for Saturday. Fortunately, the "fire ban" will not impact our beverage selection and other tailgating activities.

Should be fun weekend. We look forward to seeing you, Spring, The Mole, John Wesley, RedAndBlack, and other assorted Boardsters on Andrus this Saturday...

Injuries is a real issue. More recruits would help for sure, but a side from the Trinity loss. The Ephs other two losses is by a total of 6 points. With a lot of freshman and sophmores playing I see them as a team on rise. I think this weekends game in Middletown will be a good barometer. Will it be a beatdown like Trinity or a close one like their other games. I am hoping by games end we are not only praising the Ephs punter.

SpringSt7

More thoughts on the state of the Williams program at the end of the season - these last two will say a lot - but it is hard to grasp how they are going backwards in a year where they have already surpassed last season's win total. Surely after the 3-6 season would have been the time to comment on that?

The inability to sustain any real success after 2021 is disappointing but that team was also one of the greatest teams in the history of the league and the COVID 5th year that so many seniors took stunted a lot of the growth that the guys below them might have had - even if they were not the most talented recruits the program has ever brought in. McHugh is a sophomore - Maimaron's sophomore year they went 5-4 and lost 4 of their last 5 games. They probably won't go 9-0 in two years but they are still on an upward trajectory.

Ephs1

I'm very excited about Williams going forward, even if this season ends at 5-4. I think Coach Raymond has things going in the right direction.
