Hmmm 84......a 10% increase. Im sure that was calculated by the NESCAC academics who are looking at the budgetary side of things. Assume Football budgets will (or should) be increased by 10%- a nice tidy calculation for the bean counters.

Am I the only one wondering how these coaches are supposed to run a college practice with 85 players? That seems like a recipe to get kids hurt

Go ask Mount Union and North Central how they do it routinely with 140+ players.

We hear ya and the NESCACMAN consortium is supportive of a higher (or no) roster limit. However, to directly address your comment of running a practice with "only" 85 players available (at most): 1). Please keep in mind that the NESCAC operated with much smaller rosters (76 players) for many years up until the pandemic in 2020. The coaches somehow figured out how to run practices prior to 2020 with fewer players. 2). The NFL runs practices with far fewer than 85 players even when you include practice squad players. 3). Practices today are far different than they were in the past. Contact at practice, especially in-season, is  very limited so we don't see the roster limit affecting NESCAC practices.

One twist we would have liked to see on this rule. "If" a school plays 3 or more JV games, they are allowed an additional 10 roster spots for a total roster limit of 95. This would encourage NESCAC programs to schedule JV games to get the student-athletes more involved in game situations.

Our biggest issue is NESCAC teams will be at an inherent disadvantage if and when they are allowed to participate in the D3 play-offs. Since that is a year or two away, IOO, maybe cooler heads will prevail and the limit will be raised by then.

Huh- easier to run a practice with 85 guys- I don't care how many kids you have on the roster- no one is doing full padded practices 3 days a week in game prep in this era of concussions- what are you talking about. Full padded practices with full contact are not the norm anymore. So having 90 guys or 130 guys in half pads is irrelevant.
The issue with roster size is depth-- when the season progresses and injuries set in that's when you want the numbers of a large roster.

If you have  ~30 kid on each side of the ball during team scout periods

offense for example looking like
12 OL
9 WR
3 RB
3 QB
3 TE

and another 30 on defense. that is 60 right there. if you then have 4 kids who are your specialist then you are up to 64. That leaves 20 kids to play scout offense and defense each week. Which is literally not enough kids. That doesnt even take into account injuries. There is no way an 85 roster limit is sustainable. D1 schools are throiwng fits about having to work with 105 next year and they have 10x the resources (GA's, analysts) to help out during practices than hamilton or bates does.

GroundandPound

Six from the NESCAC.  It looks like the most NESCAC players on the team in the last 5 years.  They post only 5 years on their site.

Congrats to the NESCAC All New England Team Members...

Congratulations to the 6 student-athletes from the NESCAC that made the All-New England Team. In particular, congratulations to the 3 from the League Champs, the Wesleyan Football Cardinals, that made the team. Well deserved honor for NESCAC DPOTY Ben Carbeau, NESCAC OPOTY Chase Wilson, and Dylan Connors.

We're hoping that Coach Dice is rewarded for his efforts this year with the New England D2/D3 Coach of the Year.

Quote from: JerseyNescacFball on November 25, 2024, 06:00:35 PMNo disrespect to the honorees, but it's hard to understand how the New England writers put together their All-New England list and selected six players without including talents like Harmon, Price, Young, and Zebrowski. It's frustrating to see such deserving players overlooked.

I had a similar thought looking at the list before I remembered it includes D2 and they only do one team... no 1st team and 2nd team.

Congratulations to Wesleyan Head Coach Dan DiCenzo who was named the New England Football Writers D2/D3 Coach of the Year. He is the first Wesleyan Head Football Coach to ever earn this award. Well deserved.

He joins three of his players in receiving All-New England honors.

NM or anyone who knows the answer to this. Have seen guys like Abraham and Wilson who are listed as seniors on the Wes website announce they are hitting the portal. Wondering how they have any eligibility left (We are done with Covid years) but someone like Clapp or Lyke Davis at Trinity are out of eligibility. To my knowledge neither played their first year but are still out of eligibility. Wondering if these guys had an injury year or something along those lines.

Bantam, it's injury related and they would have to come back as grad students which they could do at Wesleyan or another school that offers a graduate program. That would typically not be another NESCAC school (Donatio being the rare exception), Patriot (they do not allow portal transfers), or Ivy (grad students are not eligible to play football). Hope that helps.

Seems like Chase Wilson is generating like prior NESCAC receivers a ton of D1 interest, with offers already from URI, Bryant, New Hampshire, and Maine.  Would be interesting if he moved into the Tomlinson spot at New Hampshire.  Abraham has also received several low-D1 offers. Wesleyan senior OL William Aaronson is also in the transfer portal.

The Mole

WR Rickey Eng (FAM) is also in the portal for a 5th year
