Trin9-0

Bullfrog, I actually spoke to a good friend of mine who coaches at Trinity last night and he mentioned that they lost a couple of recruits this year to Williams and Amherst.

That may not seem suprising, however the recruits didn't chose those schools over Trinity...  they actually were unable to get them accepted to Trin, yet were accepted at Williams and/or Amherst. Funny things can happen with admissions departments, especially when tips are involved.

It's asinine to assume that someone accepted to Trinity couldn't or wouldn't go to Williams/Amherst or any other NESCAC school, and vice versa. ALL of these schools are outstanding academic institutions with very simialar admissions standards, course loads, professors and expectations. As Bant said, it's more about finding the right fit than just going to the highest ranked school.

chessdoc, I'm very proud of my Trinity degree and equally proud to have been apart of 2 championship teams. Best of luck to your kid, except against the Bants of course.

FOOTB@11F@N: If that quote is accurate I would assume he is trying to get his kids pumped up early... or possibly trying to convince them that they can actually knock off Trin.

The game is in Hartford, where the Bants haven't lost since 2001. Much like the '03 squad, the Trinity defense will have to carry the load this year with an unproved QB at the helm. The offense still has big play threats with Leo and Barnard (if he can adapt to playing QB full time), but teams will find it very difficult to score against the leagues best defense.

This season will probably be the best chance a team has at knocking off Trinity but I think there's a better chance of it happening week 2 in Williamstown. The Bants just don't lose at home.

its easier to speculate these things when it gets closer to gametime. it is only early may after all. trinity has been unbeatable at home but stranger things have happened...

FOOTB@11F@N: where did you hear that quote?

F00TB@11F@N

Cruiser:  It was a comment made by one of Colby coaches...I would guess the word got around because of its absurdity!

I agree that the Williams game will be the "game to watch", week 2.  But after last seasons debaucle is there any reason to believe this?

tmerton

Colby's got a pretty sweet deal getting to switch Williams and Trinity on their schedule so that they don't have to play both.

Is Trinity really going to change the offense, or are you just assuming that because there are new coaches?

Man, if I were them, I wouldn't change that running scheme.  So methodical it could put you to sleep while they are averaging 6.5 yards a carry on a touchdown drive.

What scheme are they going to run now?  I loved the Denver Broncos blocking sheme!  Everything was so simple... didn't ever matter what a defense did, you just absorbed it.  I remember Middlebury was trying to confuse us by moving the formation right before the snap.  Since the play was about to start, we didn't have time to change calls, but we knew what we had to do once they moved.

I really hope they don't change that scheme.  The other team can know exactly what we were running and it didn't matter, because the scheme made it impossible (when executed properly) for the defense to stop the running back from getting at least 5 yards on most plays.

Should be interesting.  It took three years for that scheme to start being executed properly at Trinity.  I wonder how long it is going to take Priore to install it at Stony Brook.  I can guarantee you one thing: it isn't going to happen overnight.  When he first came in trying to teach us his awkward blocking schemes and zone blocking footwork, it was completely against everything we ever learned playing football.  "How the hell can you run block taking a step backwards and sideways?"

That stuff was a mess for first few years!  Then it started to click, the defense came up Aces, and its been quite a while since we've lost.

F00TB@11F@N

Chris Rorke is the new offensive coordinator up at Trinity...he came from a program where HIS offense averaged over 30 points per game.  There's no way he'll abandon HIS offense just because something different had been run there before him.  I'm sure Lehigh didn't run the same offense before Rorke got there.  I think it'd be crazy for him to try to teach/coach an offense that he doesn't know like the back of his hand.

The one thing that I will say against that...Coach Devany WILL have some say in what plays are run and so forth, because after all, his name is going to be in the paper for the win or the loss (not an assistant coach).  That will most likely involve the amount of times Rorke throws the ball....because of course Devany, being a defensive guy, will want to keep his dogs off the field for as long as possible (running the ball and taking time off the clock like coach Priory did).  Which has probably been a huge reason for their great defensive success...And the fact that they have the most handsome coach in the NESCAC on their side of the football.

I see that the Bants have a new DC as well....you think Devany isn't going to have some input there as well?

I agree with the statement that: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  But the Bantams offense will surely change....but with the qb from Texas, does it even matter what they run?

Huddle Call: snap the ball, you block someone and he'll make everyone on defense look stoopid....on one, ready hit!

chessdoc

my kid is stupid already so were ok. texas boy what year. they play a great brand of ball in that state.

F00TB@11F@N

chessdoc:  I think the kid is going to be a junior.  Undersized, but probably the best athlete is the NESCAC...right behind your son of course!

bant551

Yeah, I see what you are saying: they can probably implement this guy's general offensive scheme and principles -- but still run many of the basic running plays that have just devoured the game clock over the past few years.

chessdoc

Strike my boy off the list im not touting his skills thats up to him. will watch that qb glad to hear he is so good   that fantastic.

Nescacfan05

I think by the fact that the top 2 teams in the NESCAC last year, and by virtue of a 30 game win streak is the reason the Colby, Trinity game draws similarities...Besides Colby has the 2nd best reccord in NESCAC over the past three years and hasn't played Trinity, they play hard, and they are tough, why not think this would be a good game??? Yes Trinity has talent and good coaching, but Colby did beat the bag out of Williams 35-9, they are well coached and should provide of a quality game??? Right?? Or am I way off base......

Look you  obviously are a former Bant and want to believe that more than 1 or 2 kids might cross over I will sell you some land as they say.  Especially, when the Bants are crossing over with teams like Albany, CCSU and Bently.  Of course there are exceptions, becasue if you played back then you would either be an academic recruit for the Bants or probably not even recruited.  The talent the Bants have now is the best in this league and I have seen many teams.

Second, it obviously took time for the offense to click to Chucks scheme,  No S__t,  the stuff was a mess becasue the talent was not there as the years got better the talent got better and you could do those things.  IT's not scheme its all talent.

I've been at this for a long time and probably are  older than most of you.  It comes down to ONE thing talent.

The one thing that I wish I had was a pool of condidates that the Bants have instead of having some worm in admissions dictating my future.

Don't forget the LB that transferred from Manchester community college with the whopping under 900 SAT.

The one point that I read is that Trinity coaches works so hard(No Question), but so does every other coach in this league.  Unfortunatley, not every coach in the league reports to the president of university and has full say of admissions.

You take any coach in this league and put them in that situation most would win.

Again this is not a knock on Trinity staff.

Also no kid that gets into Trinity has a chance at Williams.  Williams is like Yale and Harvard.

Are you saying that Priore reports to Trinity's President and that's an advantage for him.  Priore had to "report" to a new President every year for 5 years, so I don't know how that really would've helped him.

Chessdoc,  The QB from TX is going to be a junior.  He plays baseball as well, made all NESCAC last year I believe.  This year was the leadoff hitter while playing CF/P.  The kid has some skills.

bant551

Perhaps you've been around a little too long if you think coaching isn't absolutely ESSENTIAL to winning in football.

But hey, you ARE older than I am.  So, I guess that means your age trumps my FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE PLAYING UNDER BOTH PRIORE AND THE PRIOR STAFF.

Also, Priore had to "report" to the President the year before the first 8-0 season who came to Trinity -- the guy who was famous because he wrote a book about how you have to basically obliterate social life and sports on college campuses and focus only on academics.

But hey, first-hand experience and facts must yield to grey hair I guess.

Bullfrog

All you Trinity guys really are CLUELESS!  Now I see why you didn't go to Amherst or Williams and all the other NESCAC schools that don't have state school standards.

I am actually jealous of you guys because Trinity wants to win and knows what it has to do that is all.

You guys are like the FAT Cat that keeps getting Fatter.  See what happens when great coaching occurs w/o players.  Look at Dartmouth they had a great bunch of coaches then admisisons shut them down.  Nothing changed other than one thing. The worm in admisisons.

Take the two bottom teams in NESCA Wes and Ham, there is not one kid that would actually have started on the Trinity team.  Lets see the Trinity staff run that scheme with that personnel.  The staff  can work their tales off, but IT AIN"T GONNA HAPPEN!

Now it is getting late and I have to go to sleep, so I don't get more grey hairs.
