Dunno if Bullfrog will be back online. He attempted to change his posting e-mail address, apparently to an address that doesn't exist. Our attempts to send him a password have all bounced.

He shouldn't keep the "self-destruct" button so close to all of our buttons!

I've watched the posts on this site and talked to people at Trinity. From what I've heard from them -- one worked in administration until recently--Chuck P. was gently pushed out his job because Trinity was trying to clean up its admissions standards.  Priore was the only Trinity coach who regularly looked to take advantage of its low admissions standards. True or not? Also, true or false, Trinity freshmen football players were required to attend a team sponsored study hall? I've never heard of any school in the league doing this. If true, were players insulted by this. League level of play has been down for years. Any chance for overall level of play rising?

Interesting theory but I doubt anyone can prove one way or the other.

colby freshman footballers are also required to attend a study hall.

Wow, study hall for freshman!  You really got him there!  Not exactly the type of thing that will make the proverbial "reasonable person" draw negative inferences about the coach and his commitment to academics.  Pretty lame.  Digging pretty deep for someone who can't seem to find dirt.

As far as "taking advantage of admissions standards", you sound kinda like Bullfrog, who (coincidentally) tried to change his email address today (albeit only AFTER embarassing himself, his team and his school with pathetic, incoherent arguments).  If (and believe me, this is COMPLETELY hypothetical) you ARE NOT Bullfrog, just read the posts again.  They address that point, quite thoroughly.

Now, none of this is to say that Bullfrog's arguments could not have been made articulately and effectively by the right person (maybe someone who didn't get into Williams for football).  Unfortunately, the Williams education didn't come up Aces for this poor guy.  His education failed him, and exposed flaws in either (1) the Williams education; or (2) the low standards Williams was willing to go to during the "glory years" which have now passed them by.

The Trinity Football team wasn't the only team with a Study Hall.  I know that the Ice Hockey team did as well.

And players with certain GPA's were "required" to attend, but those scholar-athletes who did well in the classroom did not have to go.

I don't really see what the problem with wanting your players to do well academically is.

As for the other sports teams at Trin crying about Priore's ways......that's the most absurd thing I've ever heard.  We on the other teams were very proud of what our football brethren did on the field and were in awe of the work they put in on their own out of season.  It was something to marvel at.

Easy now, I'm not Bullfrog. As for the study hall matter, that was mentioned by a guy I know at Trinity who thought it reflected badly on the football team's academic standards. That's his take on it, not mine; I just wanted to know if it was true? Also, I never said any other Trinity coaches or athletes ever complained about Priore.
Now, do you guys think Trinity will be the league favorite again? Who else will be good this fall? Will Hamilton, Wes and others ever pick up there play. My son hopes to be in the league in '07.

one would think that the purpose of the study halls is to make sure the freshmen learn the proper study habits that they need to develop in college while balancing their time between academics and athletics (football in this case). i dont think it should reflect badly on the team if they have a study hall for the younger players; it should convey that the team desires to have the younger guys earn their academic stripes at the given institution. while it is each teams choice whether or not they offer a study hall, as a parent, i think it would be great for my son to have a place where he has to do work, away from the distractions of a college dormitory.

Sorry Bant 551, I messed up changing my email,

One mistake, I made was I meant they instead of we in reference to WL, becasue you are right I am not that smart, and wasn't able to get into WL,  so don't your panties in an uproar.

Lastly,I am going to hopefully stop posting as I get a chuckle of how you react and I need to work extra hard, since Trinity aka the Stamford and Harvard of Coillege football is out working us all.

I suspect that on average the undergraduates work harder at MIT or Cal Tech than at Harvard or Stanford.

Many colleges and universities have a required study hall for athletes.  It makes sense, they are devoting a good chunk of their time every day to athletics, study halls just allows them a chance to keep up academically.  All athletic departments that I know of also have tutors to work with the athletes.  This is true on all levels of college sports and even in many high schools.  The juniors and seniors on my HS teams would help the freshmen and sophs with any classes they were having difficulty with.

Frank I think you are right, I also think that probably applies to most tech schools vs liberal arts schools.

My freshman year was Priore's 1st at Trin, therefore I was a member of the first class to have mandatory study hall. To be honest it was kind of a joke for at least the 1st two years. It wasn't proctored my freshman year, and was basically a social gathering, where we all just goofed off for a couple hours. The 2nd year it was proctored by yours truly and not much changed.

Not until he instituted the academic adviors and writing tutors did it actually become a benefit to the players academically.

To be honest, I think it was more a recruiting tool than anything else. My parents loved the fact that the coach was making sure the school work was being done and that he was involved in the academic lives of his players.

Though it wasn't all that helpfull to me or most of the guys I played with, I think it has become a benefit to a lot of the more recent players. The academic advisors (comprised of a handfull of dedicated Trin professors) do an outstanding job of helping the players and have really embraced being apart of the football program.

As someone mentioned before, I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing when students, who are a reach academically coming out of high school, are admitted to NESCAC schools. As long as they are able to handle the course load and graduate, what's wrong with giving someone an opportunity to get an outstanding education?

Pallos, I wasn't going after you at all.  Just trying to enlighten the non-Trinity folk as to what goes on in Hartford.
