goodtimes:

Though I never saw a lot of the players you mentioned in action I did recognize almost all of their names.

From what I've heard Keenan (Wlms) was arguably the best NESCAC QB ever.

Moffet (Wes) could be mentioned among the best WRs.

I thought Atkins (Bates) was overrated. Ladd has the numbers to be in consideration. And I've heard Jones (Trin) was a great player as well.

Carillo (Trin) is the best, not to mention most handsome, O-lineman in NESCAC history.

Goldwasser (Wlms) was a great player. Ryan Hankard (Trin) was actually a linebacker, not a safety, but should definately be a candidate at that position.

McGee (Amhst) and Blair (Trin) were the two best d-linemen I saw (sorry dirtybird). I also heard very good things about Hudak (Tfts).

Farley (Wlms) and Cella (Trin) were probably the two best NESCAC athletes I've seen. Goldstein (Trin) was a very good player, but I don't think he belongs on this list.

mariner: Kelly was indeed a very good back. But wasn't he around 26 years old and enrolled only 1 or 2 classes.

I agree that Ladd was probably better than Atkins, although he may have also been about 26 when he graduated. One interesting thing about Atkins is that I believe he came in as a defensive lineman (he also made Sportscenter's hidden play, up there with Chuck P.'s spot on Berman's top 10 plays). I think if you are going to include Blair then you have to include Sherman from Colby... another old-as-dirt graduate but probably severely underrated because of where he played. Also goodtimes, if you are dating back to around '84, where does '94 wesleyan grad mangini rank... seems like he had a ridiculous amount of sacks for a noseguard.

goodtimes

The list is in no particular order.

You are right about Mangini and Sherman.
Remember-Atkins did all his rushing on his own!
Tufts had a OL back in ealy to mid-90's who was pretty good-name? I though Hankard was more of a OLB type player-either way he was pretty good!

mariner75

details, details.....he was in school for 3 years but only played two seasons...

Nescacfan05

Andy Steele from Middlebury....he was a beast.....Sherman DE from Colby, That WR from Amherst in 2000-01???Can't remeber his name..

Alright I have to chime in here:

If we are going to talk about great players I want to have an input.

OL - Carillo, RT tackle for Williams in O2', RT tackle for Wesleyan in 00' (had a short arm).

LB - Goldwasser, Hankard, Steele (tremendous)

DL - Tough call...I will remain humble here.  Rooney, Blair, McGee, not Sherman, I will give Hudak (sp) the nod (had more sacks than him senior year).

Secondary - Cella, Farley, Tim Mullaney, Jeff Devanney (Current Trin Coach)

RB - Charlie Sticka, Sanchez, T. Pierandri, Ray Jones.

WR - MacNamara, Wagstaff, WR from Williams in 01', Moffet.

QB - Agree with Trin8-0, also include Carney from Weslyan.

There have been a lot of players throughout the years that could make this list...The easiest way to determine who were great NESCAC players is to look at the list of previous first team NESCAC, All New- England, All ECAC, and D-II/DII All Stars over the years...and the occasional All- American.

Trin9-0

dirty: Though I agree Charlie Sticka is one of the great NESCAC players of all time, the topic of discussion was the best players from 1984 to the present.

Sticka graduated in 1955, and is part of a whole different discussion.

Try to keep up.

Also, I love how you were "humble" yet still managed to brag about how many sacks you had.  :D

Are the WR's of the class of 2007 really this good or were the class of 2006 really that bad? 5 of 7 All-Nescac's last year were juniors (Drenckhahn & Fulmer from Williams, Hannon from Amherst, McNamara from Bates and Olenoski from Trinity). And speaking of the class of 2007... who are the stand-outs? or in other words... football is a sport where a team generally goes as far as it's senior leadership (with only a few exceptions)... based on that, which seniors will carry their teams come fall?

chessdoc

how is it that the trinity alums know about the incoming freshmen and no one else seems to know about the other teams. is it a network of friends or does trinity post there results.

Trin9-0

chessdoc: Everything I know is from info that I got at the Trinity football alumni golf tournament, and from talking to friends that still coach/play at Trin.

Lineman: I would assume the '07 recievers are legit. I was very impressed with Hannon.

As far as senior classes go I think the Bants are in pretty good shape. Their captains, Leo, Olenoski, Soules and Allen won't let the younger guys become complacent and the rest of that class is filled with guys who have had to sit behind talented older players. They will definately make the most of their opportunity to shine.

It seems that the Trinity alumni remain very interested in the success of the program....like Trin8-0, I talk with several coaches on a regular basis and inquire about the success and motivation behind selecting certain highschool standouts.  The most amazing thing about the recruiting at Trinity is the dedication and tireless efforts the coaches put in to selling the school and making sure that the school is the right fit for the student athletes...I think honesty and hard work has played a major role in their success over the past 5 years.

Those guys deserve every win they get as coaches!

Roonyhufsfarts

not only is rooney hands down a top dline man for the past couple decades in the NESCAC, he is also, without a doubt, the Fart Huffing MVP.

Rooney huffs farts lives!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nescacfan05

Derrell Wright was the most physically gifted WR in 2000 and 2001, that has been around the league.

Oliphant never got alot of love, but went to the aztec bowl, but had a tryout with the Ravens.... and did a hell of a job on the Colby line, desereves mention at least

cruiser

hear hear nescacfan. someone else recognizes oliphant for being the most dominant olineman in the nescac for the past few years
