What ranking are you guys referring to?

I was referring to the college football magazine Lindy's and the rankings in their DIII preview. It also had the Trinity-Colby game and Williams-Amherst game among their most important games in DIII football this year. It's good to see that despite the possibility of the playoffs, NESCAC schools can still get some press because of Trinity's streak and the tradition of the Williams-Amherst game.

When you click on the pre-season all-americans link on the front page, and from there click on the "D3football.com Top 25" link on the left side of the page, different rankings appear than the if you would click on the same link on the front page... if that makes any sense. For that reason, I (and I think Dirtybirds) assumed that it was the preaseason rankings because Trinity is 29th in voting as opposed to 25 at the end of last season.

In other words.. http://www.d3football.com/top25/ is the link that is available on this page: http://www.d3football.com/tow/06/preallamericans.htm

http://www.d3football.com/top25.php?year=2005&week=16 is the link that is available from the http://www.d3football.com/ main page

Hmm, odd that that would take you to the 2003 final poll. Thanks for the heads-up.

When does the D3 football top 25 come out? Any chance we will see a NESCAC school in there? It seems that the status quo has been to start Trinity out in the mid 30s, then by the time they get their 8th win they have slipped in around 22-23. Then by the time the D3 season is over they somehow drop to 24 or 25.

I realize it's very difficult to know where a NESCAC school belongs, but what is the basis on which the voters use to project where Trinity would rank?

So I was looking at the 2003 final poll...well it may not be a bad place to start them anyway...

Pretty much absolute conjecture. We did have two voters who saw them in person last year. Keith McMillan was one, he wrote a column on it.

From what I remember it was a fairly complimentary article. I would be curious as to where Keith ranked the Bants after seeing them play, and if his article changed the views of any other voters.

Also, Trinity is ranked No. 25 in the Don Hansen's Football Gazette Division III Pre-Season National Poll.

Any Nescac team that goes undefeated or has one loss will be ranked around #25 at the end of the year depending on other teams records.

I disagree. I would be very suprised if Trinity ends up ranked anywhere near the top 25 if they happen to lose a game this year. Furthermore, I doubt that Williams, Amherst or Colby would get close if they went 7-1 or possibly even 8-0.

The only reason Trin gets any love from the voters is because they have the streak. I would suspect that the voters, especially those who follow the traditional powerhouse conferences would love to see Trin stumble and get knocked out of the top 25.

Yea maybe not 25 but around there (25-35).

Its funny, I just looked up the 2003/2004 d3football.com polls and two 6-2 Williams teams ended up being ranked higher than two 8-0 Trinity teams.

Jonny Utah

actually nevermind, theres something funky goin on with those polls when I click on the year.

Pat Coleman

You click on a year, then you have to also choose a week, right? If you just click on the year it goes to week 1.
