Well I am back...
Figured I needed to update the login name to the correct number.
Barnard will be a big loss to the Bants...if anything, it may be an indication of a lapse in the program through the regime change.  Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come for the Bants.  I think the defense will remain as strong as ever...so all the offense has to do is score two touchdowns to win games.

Season is right around the corner...

My only concern is how close this news comes to the start of the season. Since the streak began in 2003 Trinity has never had a mobile QB, so I'm sure heading into this season the offense had been modified to suit Barnard's style of play. Hopefully, the coaches didn't change the offense too much. Though, I suppose there is still a few weeks before camp opens if they do need to make any changes.

A more traditional Trin QB would seem to fit their system better. All he will be asked to do is run the offense and not turn the ball over. If the O-line can open holes for the very talented Trin running backs a young QB won't be asked to do very much. And as dirty said... with a defense this good, 2 scores should be enough to win games.

Good point...I wonder if the offense had made adjustments?  Is anyone planning on going to any of the scrimmages to see the talent?

Ha, this must be the CT/Western MA name game.... I scored a big goose egg

I was just reading  some of the NEFC board due to the lack of activity here.... does anyone else throw up in their mouth just a little every time they think about an NEFC team getting a playoff bid? I read over there that Curry and Endicott should be battling it out for that spot. Last time I checked, Endicott was playing nescac JV's.

In 2001 I saw Westfield State in a playoff game vs. Western Connecticut at Westfield State. Up to that playoff game Westfield State had been undefeated in 2001 - it lost that game to Western Connecticut, 8-7. Williams had just completed an undefeated season beating a to-then-undefeated Amherst in overtime. - of course, Williams playing a NESCAC-only schedule. Based on what I observed during that season, I judged that Westfield State's personnel of that season was slightly better than Williams', but Williams would have narrowly won a game against Westfield State because of Williams' superior preparation. In my view that year one blanket would have fit over Western Connecticut, Westfield State, Amherst and Williams.

Unfortunately, Western Connecticut then went on to get blown out by Rowan in the next round.

Unfortunately for Western Connecticut, but on an objective basis probably predictably.

Is Central Connecticut good in its league?

We scrimmaged their "JV team".  Apparently they have an entire JV team because they have so many players.

We had the most pathetic, rag-tag bunch of hungover idiots (they play the games on Sundays and back then, playing in JV games was considered an insult) and malcontents... and we ended up tying them like 7-7 or something.

If they actually had a JV team, they should be embarassed.  The only practice our guys ever got was getting beaten up by the starters in practice (when you are supposed to act like you are trying, but not go so hard as to get the starters in trouble, who will then hate you and curse your name forever).

That is all.

Central Connecticut State currently is in D1AA. Their schedule appears to contain mostly non-scholarship teams. I have never seen them play.

Trin9-0

I don't think there is a very big difference between any non-scholarship programs across any division. A good D3 program could compete with almost any non-scholarship D2 or D1AA program.

Also, JV scrimmages aren't a very acurate depiction of how programs would match up in an actual game with starters. There is little to no preparation on either side and many of the players in the game either don't want to be playing or may possibly be playing out of position due to lack of depth at a certain spot. With that being said, we did beat Springfield College in an '00 JV game and in my opinion did so primarily because of equal or greater talent.

I hated, hated, hated, hated JV games.  Above and beyond the normal reasons why they sucked (played on Sunday, etc.), playing on the offensive line in a JV game is one of the most confusing things I've ever done.  Noone knew any of the plays because all we did all week was pretend we were the other team for the offense.

Then, to top it off, they decide that since every team needs a Center, and since we didn't have one, that it would be a great idea to make me a center and have me take my first ever practice snap during pregame warmups.

And we still tied a team that apparently was a "real" JV team.  They should have quit football altogether after that!
