Does anyone know if Trinity or Williams is going to put the game on a live stream?  Or even radio (for free)?

Bant551: We're looking into doing this game ourselves. I'll definitely be in attendance, checking on broadcast.

Sounds great.  Please keep us informed.  Thanks.

I agree with Trin8-0 on all accounts...Defense looks fast...very fast.  The interesting thing to me is the size of the defense as well.  When I played at Trinity I think our biggest d-lineman was 245 lbs...but fast.  This Trinity defense is not only as fast but they are big!  Upfront Carpenter (6'1" 250lbs), DJ Lanz (6'1" 280lbs), and Doval (6'0" 250lbs) were all very impressive...Linebackers Chris Scott (6'0" 225lbs), Christian Allen (6'1" 215lbs), Stafford (6'0" 220), Rettig (6'1" 220), and Berry (6'2" 225) were all very impressive.  In the secondary Soules (5'11" 210), Paul Mounds (6'2" 205lbs), Jared Boyd (6'1" 190lbs) and Mark Randall (5'11" 175lbs) were also impressive.

The reason I like to point out these numbers is that we are big, strong, athletic and fast...but if there is one weakness to our team it is the secondary.  If a Williams or an Amherst can match up their big physical receivers against our secondary, or even get mismatches against our linebackers....we could be in trouble.  The running game should not even be a consideration for long term sucess against the Bants.  Look for a tough road game against Williams this week.   If the streak is going to end it will be this Saturday!

Hello all,

I'm a 'longtime viewer, first-time poster' and hope I did this initial post right so I can share a few sites that might be of interest to some here.

Here is an account of the Colby-Trin game Saturday.  It pretty accurately portrays the game.  As was mentioned in a few posts, both teams hurt themselves with penalties: Colby a roughing passer personal foul that kept alive a Trinity scoring drive.  Trinity returned the favor with their own facemask penalty to allow Colby to get a field goal.  And as mentioned, Trin had a kickoff TD return called back on holding.  Anyway, I believe the assessment is right that Colby is a good team, they just need to keep building confidence and momentum (and protect the QB a little more).  They had an outstanding punter, by the way.

Here, the White Mule fans will find the Football teams 2005 highlight video.  It's kind of neat, but does go on a little bit.  Anyway, its interesting viewing if you want to get pumped up for their next game and the rest of the season.

Finally, here is a link to the Williams weekly (I think) football show.  The production is kind of a low-budget affair, but the effort is appreciated (the only one in NESCAC doing it?) and discussion is informative and enjoyable.  Frank Uible is a guest contributor on it too--good job Frank.  Last week's preview show was taped (again I think) on Sept 21. So this week's preview of the Trin-Will game will likely be available Thurs or Friday sometime.

For whatever it is worth (and I can't imagine much) - the taping of the show has occurred in the past and is scheduled for the future on Wednesday afternoons. Nonetheless we aim to please. P.S. The show appears weekly on community televion channels 17 in Williamstown (6:00 pm on Thursdays, 4:00pm and 8:00pm on Fridays and 9:00am on Saturdays) and 16 in North Adams, Clarksburg and Adams (8:00pm on Fridays and 10:00am on Saturdays).

can someone help me out here? I'm coming in for the Trinity/Williams game w/ my fiance and would like to take in the Williamstown 'ambiance' for an evening. Can someone recommend a hotel locally there?....we'd like to bring the dog so one that allows pets, if anyone knows of any.

Thanks

redtackle: This late for a football weekend all Williamstown rooms are likely to be already taken. You may have to land as far away as Pittsfield (about 23 miles). See the Williams College website for suggested lodging places.

Redtackle... for my brother's graduation from Williams, we signed up kind of late for a hotel, so we stayed in Vermont.  It was only about a 15-minute drive to Williams.  It was a kind of cheesy, almost motel-looking Radisson [Radisson-like, not sure it was actually that chain of hotel], but it was absolutely fine.  Clean, close, comfortable, etc.

Pittsfield is probably a little further away, but I've dropped people off there from Williams and it really isn't that terrible to make a less-than 30 minute drive to see a game (I'd kill to be sitting in 2-hour traffic to get to Jets games).

I'd take a look at the Williams site like Frank said, but consider VT.

One option (although expensive) not from from Williams is Porches Inn in North Adams.  Definitely the coolest hotel in the area, with a great contintal breakfast, nice outdoor pool and hot tub, very interesting design/decor (granny chic is how they bill it).  Likely booked but worth a shot.  It's also right next to MassMoca, a really great museum.

In Williamstown, high end The Orchards is best bet, there are plenty of low end motels in town and I bet you could snag a room at one.  1896 House is pretty good and close to campus.  Berkshire Hills Motel is OK is well.

If looking for stuff to do in town, definitely check out Mezze for a pricey, but great dinner, Helen's Place or Pappa Charlie's for lunch, Tunnel City or Lickety Split for desert, and of course the purple pub for drinks (or a great burger).

Also enjoy what is usually a gorgeous weekend this time of year and do some outdoor stuff as well, hike either Stone Hill (short walk), Pine Cobble (Medium hike) or Mount Greylock (ambitiout hike) or take a nature walk in Hopkins Forrest.

As for the game, should be a classic.  Trinity's power running game against Williams' explosive passing game.  Key for Williams is keeping it close and making Trinity pass the ball.  With a young qb, hopefully Williams very experienced d-ends and lb's can bring some heat to rattle him.  Of course the Ephs can't give the ball away on oor special teams, gotta make Trinity try to score on long drives and play the field position game.  One of their stars, Pritchard has a high ankle sprain so he may be out or limited, but the Ephs are pretty deep at LB.

Prediction: Williams stuns the league and ends the streak 24 to 21.  On the other hand, if Trinity wins this game, I think they won't lose again for a long time -- they get Amherst at home this year, and both Amherst and Williams are very senior-heavy, especially on offense.  This year looks like the usual suspects: I would be surprised if Trinity, Amherst or Williams lose to anyone but each other given how dominant each looked week one.  Colby has a chance against Amherst, but I think the Jeffs have too many weapons on offense, where Colby lost a few stars.  I wouldn't be shocked ot see a three-way tie for conference honors at 7-1 each.

Trin9-0

Pat, I noticed that the NESCAC and NEFC have been booted from the East on d3football.com's Around the Region. Can we expect any Around the Region articles for the Northeast?

Nescac1, that's a very fair assesment of the Trin-Wilms game. Like every other NESCAC team for the past 5 years I think the Ephs will find it very difficult to run on the Bants.

The Trin secondary is experienced with 3 seniors (Soules, Randall, Mounds) and a junior (Boyd). If they play well and hold Williams to under 10 points, I think McGrath will be able to mangage the offense well enough to create scoring opportunities against an inexperienced Eph secondary. Depth up front is an issue for Trin, but if the Bantam O-line can stay healthy and fresh I think Leo could run for a ton of yards/points. Having Pritchard out, or not at 100%, will definately hurt Williams.

Devanney, a former special teams coordinator at Trinity, is likely fuming about the mistakes made in that department against Colby. Look for those units to be much improved this week, and possibly decide the outcome.

There is also a good seafood restaurant right by Williams campus.  Don't remember the name.  Might be River-something... River View?

I'm all set up at the Cozy Corner hotel...thanks for all the good suggestions. It doesn't look like much but it's in my price range and they're letting us bring the dog. Looking forward to calling the game w/ Pat on the radio!!
