Mr. Inside,

I hope you are right on your prediction (or you're trying to pull a Lou Holtz on us), but Midd has always played Williams very tough regardless of records.

Mr. Inside

Ephman,
Middlebury Offense will not be able to move the ball vs Williams D. However Midd has a great Punter and a very good defense. Since 1990 Middlebury has only won 2x against Williams.

Just watch out for the Lonely End.....like the 2000 Midd win over Williams.

Tufts vs Trinity game this Saturday will be broadcast via streaming video on jumbocast.com.  Be aware that jumbocast has switched this year from Real Player to Windows Media.  Test your system on the jumbocast site before gametime to see if you need to download Media Player as it takes more than a few minutes to activate.

You obvioulsy do not know the Middlebury football....  The Defensive Coordinator is Monninger who was the Co -Coordinator last year. Gritti is not feeding any ideas. The biggest plus for the Midd Defense is that Mandigo is back on the Defensive side of the ball coaching the Secondary. The Secondary is making Midd successful.

However Williams will win easily this weekend.

Wow - taken to task by two two-time posters who are, by their own accounts at least, very knowledgeable about the Midds.   As with ghostrider, though, you might try reading what I actually said rather than reading into what I said.  I never said or suggested Gritti was the DC, so repeating that is fine but irrelevant.  And perhaps my "hunch" was wrong.  BFD.  At least I seemed to have brought two experts out of the woodwork.

If I say something nice about Dave Caputi do you think I might be able to get some Bowdoin fans to come out?

For the Ephs who knew Caputi when he was the OC under Farley, any comments?  I don't know how he is as a tactician (have I learned my lesson about my "hunches"? :o) but in my experience he is a straight shooter as a coach and recruiter.  I like him a lot.

Inside,

I hope you are right.  Althought both Middlebury wins (actually since 1987) were both shutouts at Williams.  We were down 6-3 to them in the 4th quarter in 1990.  I think they get very pumped up for Williams the same way Williams does for Trinity.  I think someone mentioned last week that a Williams alum said that Trinity was for the players and the Amherst game was for the students, that's absolutely true.

Tmerton - as far as David Caputi I have only great things to say about him as a coach and a person.  At least at Williams he like to mix things up a bit, running first, which changed to a more balanced attack once we got on to his system and he was able to bring in some more passing talent.  I don't know all the real ins and outs of his offensive scheme since I played defense but his enthusiasm was incredible.

For those interested...

WAMH, 89.3 FM, will have the Amherst-Colby matchup this Saturday.  Pre-game show starts at 12:30, kickoff at 1:00.

Listen online at http://wamh.amherst.edu/

Continuing the thread, Wesleyan is providing audio broadcasts for all football games via the internet, and video broadcasts for the remaining home games (vs. Amherst, Bowdoin and Trinity).

Is Wes U still passing the vast majority of the time?  They beat Trinity twice while I was there doing that... but I've never understood the philosophy, especially when there isn't overwhelming firepower.

Col. Partridge

From the games I've listened to this year, it seems that Wes is still pass-happy.  And they do not seem to have as talented QB/receivers as they did when that offense worked in years past.

My only explanation for this is that the running game is even less effective.  In any event, the defense does not get to rest much.

Col. Partridge

Didn't want to post 2x in a row, but the Dow just closed at another record, and the Captain wants to get some happy hour-ing in before heading over to Shea.

The Captain was 4-1 last week, but this week brings less conviction in several instances.  Week 4 picks (home team in CAPS):

Bowdoin       over   HAMILTON
AMHERST      over   Colby
Wesleyan       over   BATES
WILLIAMS       over   Middlebury
TRINITY       over   Tufts

Trin9-0

What a great slate of games this week in the NESCAC. Each game could go down to the wire.
As for my picks, I concur with the good Captain...

Trinity 17
Tufts 3

Amherst 24
Colby 21

Williams 20
Middlebury 14

Wesleyan 16
Bates 10

Bowdoin 14
Hamilton 7

I'm pulling for the Continentals to break through and get on the scoreboard this week.  It seems at least their defense has improved.

nescac9

Trinity-20
Tufts-7

(Jumbos come back to earth.)

Amherst-20
Colby-10

(Jeff's get an inspired win to build some momentum for week 8 game for the ages.)

Williams-17
Middlebury-10

(Midd. keeps it close, but this is williams' year)

Wesleyan-7
Bates-14

(I just can't see wesleyan at .500, not yet.)
