Interesting... never occurred to me.  Is there a reason why you'd want the press box on the home side, as the home team?  The fact that NESCACs don't really have luxury boxes takes that out of the equation, though I'd understand why the fans in luxury boxes would want to be on the home side.

I think most small stadiums/fields have the pressbox on the side where there are the most seats.  Therefore the homefans are going to be behind the home team, making the pressbox also being on that side.

Williams has a pretty big pressbox (2 levels right?) thats on the home side with bigger home stands.

I know at some fields like Northeastern University, the pressbox is on the visitors side because at 1pm the sun is directly in the eyes of that sideline.

John, you are correct, Williams has a two level press box on the home side. I happened to like that because that way I could stick my crowd mic out the window and get good background noise. That press box is nice and big, that is for sure, but for those of us with bad knees, it is a pain to carry equipment up those steps.

FYI......Anyone looking for the Middlebury/Hamilton game can find it on the web at www.us937.com. It is normally on another station, but there is a conflict with a high school playoff game, so it has been moved to another one of our stations.

Interestingly, part of Andrus field at Wesleyan, the football part is now known as Corwin Stadium.

Here's a nice picture and historical review of the field--even a shot of 10,000 fans watching the 1958 Trin-Wes game.

Haha, I guess it's true that the Trin folks aren't so smart. I believe that's the 3rd time that link was posted.

You beat me to it.   ;)  This is getting me fired up to see Borat tonight.

bant551

Looking forward to Borat.  Unfortunately, I hate crowded theatres with a passion and Borat will have to wait.  It is one of my least favorite things, crowded theatres.

mrmike88

No time for Borat tonight for me, anyway.  Getting prepared for the trip down to Hartford tomorrow...

WAMH will have the Amherst-Trinity game (barring technical problems, of course) live on the internet.  http://wamh.amherst.edu/

I'm still not completely sold on Amherst.  The did a good job on Tufts, but the offense still relies too much on the big play to get the ball moving.  There was a stretch last week where the defense front 7 had difficulties stopping the run.  Although they got their act together as the first half went on, any weakness in that department this week will spell defeat against the Bants.

Last year's game was really enjoyable to watch - Amherst gave the Bants a good fight before going down late.  Here's hoping we get another good one...

At least we know we won't be listening to a homer in the booth.  Last week I killed a rainy afternoon jumping between NESCAC webcasts.  Wide variety of styles--you guys seemed more Marv Albert-in-training than others, who break out the pom-poms early and often.

Man, I had the pom-poms out in a 31-3 loss?

No-you're a pro.  Some of the other schools use students who are openly partisan, but that can be entertaining in its own right.

Whew!! You had me scared there for a minute. The LAST thing I want to be accused of is being a homer.

The Captain's Week 7 picks.  Home team in CAPS:

Middlebury   over   HAMILTON
Bates       over   BOWDOIN
TRINITY                   over   Amherst
TUFTS       over   Colby
WILLIAMS   over   Wesleyan

Trin9-0

I'll have to agree with the good Captain on all of those picks.

Though watch for Hamilton to give Midd a game at home. Colby is capable of beating Tufts and Bates-Bowdoin should be a close one as well. The Ephs will roll over Wes and I think the Bants will dominate Amherst. Not trying to be a homer here, I just think Trin has been playing outstanding football lately. Amherst may be looking forward to Williams next week and the Birds always play well on Homecoming.

Can't wait for the game (tailgate)!
