Thanks for the compliments.  We walk a fine line when we're on the air, usually.  We try to provide an unbiased opinion of what's happening on the field, but as Amherst students we're obviously more familiar with our own guys (who happen to be our friends).  We also have to keep in mind that our main audience is alumni and parents.  It's probably inevitable that we break out the pom-poms from time to time, but hopefully at a minimum.

It seems to me, in my humble and completely unresearched opinion, that there's a little of both in our conferences in terms of style of broadcast.  It appears as if a few of the schools bring in the pros, but most leave it up to the kiddos.  There's something to be said for both...

Wow, Trinity is good.

24-0, and only because of 3 Bant turnovers at the goal-line which would have led to three more TDs.  Gennaro Leo is by far the best offensive player I've seen this season (granted, I won't see Williams until next weekend).  He ran all over the Lord Jeffs, and looked as strong in the fourth as he did in the first.

NO running game for Amherst.  Nick Kehoe was a positive, though his line won't show it.  He hit so many receivers on the hands, only to see the passes dropped today.  In terms of accuracy and poise under constant Trin pressure, this was one of his best performances as QB.

I can only begin to imagine what Williams is like if they put the smackdown on Trinity.

Trinity has got to hope for Amherst doing once again what it did for Trinity in 2002, giving Trinity a "tie" with Williams (though when we lost to Williams and both finished 7-1, it is hard to understand why the league doesn't just call Williams the league winner, but I don't make the rules).  Also, Trinity has to still beat Wesleyan.  Overlook no one.

Congrats to the kids on pulling it together after the Williams loss.  Could have let it kill their season and all.

Just jumping off what bant551 said, I am impressed by what Trinity has done after its loss to Williams. After the streak ended, I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought the rest of the league would smell blood against the bants. They've proven how good a football team they STILL are with the way they have won the last five weeks.

Their D has given up 3 points since the Williams game, thats unreal.

As for Amherst-Williams, is this game going to be on NESN? I know it has in some of the past years.

mrmike88

It's on NESN's TV schedule for next week - noontime kick.

I was mightily impressed with Trinity's shutout of Amherst this weekend. Nice job Bants!

As for the game being on NESN. That's pretty sick.

I don't know what "sick" means any more. Please use a synonym.

I think that means "good", but I would have to look it up in my slang dictionary that has dust on it.

Fells, do you cover hockey as well?

Sorry for the delayed response, I had to recover from my ten hours of driving on Saturday......I only do high school hockey, and some Saint Michael's College. We have a couple of guys who do Middlebury College. Jim Laberge and Kim Lower are two of the best you will hear in this area. (No offense to Jack Healy of UVM whom I schedule things around so I can listen to his broadcasts. Jack is as good as they come.)

Mr. Mike,

I agree with you in the fact we do walk a very fine line when we are broadcasting games. We have to balance the fact we would like to be able to root for the team we are covering, but know full well that is not at all professional. We try to do everything we can to give our listeners a good picture of what is happening on the field, but in the case of my game on Saturday, I was flying solo, so I couldn't see everything. We aren't perfect, but we do everything we can to come close.

Ever listen to Bob Prince? Of course not, if you're younger than 45. He was a homer and a professional. Also amusingly philosophical about his partisanship.

This place is deader than the NEFC board.   :(

Ok guys, start shooting out the predictions for the final weekend of the season.........

The Captain will start with what (unfortunately) may be the easiest pick to make.  Trinity over Wesleyan.  Point spread plus other picks to follow.

I know in the past the Amherst-Williams game has been shown on closed-circuit TV in certain bars outside of New England.  Will that be the case this year?  Not that I'm in any rush to make that scene.

The last few weeks I have listened to NESCAC webcasts while flipping through college football on the tube.  YES network has old-school NYG Howard Cross doing color for Ivy League games.   Not sure Howard will get the call to replace Brent Musberger or even Jack Arute any time soon.
