Speaking of SI: The April 16th issue mentions Krystyn Elek a goaltender on the Amherst womens hockey team in "Faces in the Crowd". However, they incorrectly identify the Amherst mascot as the Cardinals.

No love for the NESCAC.

I swear theres either a nescac or MA high school grad that works for SI faces in the crowd.  It seems like every week some Williams Squash player is in there or some Phillips Andover water polo player.........

Maybe it is a Williams grad who was handed the photo and blurb about the Amherst women's hockey player and that person "snuck one by the copy editor" on an inside bet.  :) :D

Col. Partridge

Quite likely.  I think Tim Layden and the guy who writes the 10 Spot are both Williams grads.

California WR to choose Wesleyan over Juco...maybe:

typical ca.  tgp's been out here for almost 8 yrs and most papers write about east coast (particularily d3 schools) as if we're on the opposite side of the planet.

hope that kid takes the opporunity of a life time to go to a great school like wesleyan.

I wonder if the young man is aware of the huge contrasts among Wesleyan, Texas Tech and a juco.

one would hope, if not expect, that if this kid was smart enough to get admitted to wesleyan, he should be well aware of the contrasts......

Col. Partridge

To be fair, I think the QB brother was deciding between Texas Tech (at least in his head) and juco, while his med school-aspirant WR brother was deciding between Wesleyan and juco.

A lot of smart 17 year olds (as well as adults) believe a college is a college is a college.

bant551

I believe a college is a college is a college.  Many of the top students at top-notch law schools had to take money at community and/or state schools.

They ripped through those colleges with A's, and got into grad schools with money.

I highly respect the quality of education at the NESCAC schools, but the kid paying attention at a state school is better off than the vast majority of students who don't do anything all semester then cram at the end, no matter whether they attend Ivy's, NESCACs, etc.

Bailey, winner of The Salem News' Student-Athlete of the Year award, ranks 15th in his class with a 4.16 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society and is ticketed for Tufts University. A tailback with blazing speed, he holds the all-time school records as leading rusher (3,685 yards), touchdowns (45) and total points (272).

A Tufts tailback with "blazing speed"!  Anyone know what kind of size the kid has?  Forde has good speed but is not very big.

frank uible

There are no footballers in NESCAC with "blazing speed" now, in the past or in the future.

I played with a kid in high school that placed in the top 3 nationally in the 50 yd dash in high school and he ended up playing at a nescac school.  He was about 5'7 150 but he was still a good back in the nescac.

frank uible

Could he consistently run a 4.30/40? If not, he didn't have blazing speed.
