Panthers take first two in showdown with Dallas

Chapman senior C Adam Kordich

ORANGE, Calif. – The No. 15-ranked Chapman University baseball team opened a crucial three-game series against fellow West Region independent University of Dallas with a pair of wins on Saturday afternoon at Hart Park. The Panthers got a 6-5 walk-off win in the first game thanks to an RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning from junior IF Tyler Hadzinsky. Senior RHP Jordan Sigman capped the day with seven innings of four-hit ball in a 10-1 victory in game two.

This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

Welcome ChapFan!  Good luck and hope you make it to Abilene.

CrashDavisD3

Chapman can punch their ticket for a trip to Abilene with 2 wins over Redlands. Less than 2 wins they need to hope the favored Pool A's dont lose in their conference tourneys to fall to a Pool C bid. Tight year for Pool B with only 2 bids

5/6 vs. Redlands
5/7 at Redlands

I agree.  Winning the Redlands series gets them the Pool B bid.

I think that they might move to the #2 Ranking in the West with that series win, too.

I think unless they get swept, they're in. They will have, by far, the best SOS of contenders in the West and winning one game puts them at a .655 in-region win%. Getting swept and ending up with a .621 in-region win% is a little less safe, even with the great SOS.

**Even losing 2 out of 3 will put them in much better shape than UTT, who, by the time selection time comes around, I think will have the WORST SOS in the West. Not a good sign.**

ILVBB

Every year there is virtually the same discusion. The balance between W/L record and SOS. As an independent Chapman has done a very good job of "managing" their SOS. I can't imagine that joining the SCIAC will be good for their baseball program. It will be interesting, assuming they are accepted, what impact if any it will have on their ability to manage their SOS.

At the same time; you can see the impact in Texas which has a finite number of teams which effectively reduces a teams ability to manage their SOS. It is tough traveling 500 miles plus to build a good SOS resume.

This is the one element of D3 baseball that to me is flawed. Just an opinion. :-\

500 Miles?  Yeah for those who do not live here, 500 miles barely gets you out of state, much less out of conference.  (Abilene to Shreveport -- 371 miles.)  But we love it anyway!

You are exactly right!  Once you analyze the potential results of their weekend series with Redlands, and knowing that their SOS will increase regardless, Chapman will be in.  Therefore, the only question left in the West is whether it will be HSU, UTT, McMurry, or Concordia filling the final two spots.  Personally, I would like to see McMurry play in front of their home crowd.
