Looks like Menlo is missing one thing and that is pitching.  I would have thought they were a pretty darn good hitting team until I saw the scores against Chapman.  Chapmans pitching does not seem all that great and they dominated Menlo.  Chapman looks like they might be on a little bit of a roll with all the East coast teams coming out soon.

Redlands beat Chapman last night 9-7... Chapman slides to 10-4. They are definitely down this season compared to the last two or three. I have a good feeling that the preseaon #4 ranking was a bit too high. They may pull it together and get hot, but it appears that their pitching is very suspect, with the exception of their #1 Klovstad.

Menlo split two 7 inning games with Pacific U form the NWC last night.

Seems pitching is still spotty -

The loss was 5-3, but the writeup said that Pacific played long ball.

The win was 4-0 and it praised Menlo's pitching -

Seems to me that Menlo has its ups and downs when it comes to pitching.

Menlo's final game with Pacific was rained out.

Next up -

U of Dallas at Menlo the 14th and 15th of March

Hard to figure Menlo out... they throw well some days and other days they get shellacked.  Chapman lit them up for double-digit runs three times a few weeks back. I think they just need to find the most consistent guys and run with them.

Trying to be more objective than negative - I know Menlo in their preview stated that they had a lot of pitchers on their roster -

I am wondering -

1) If they have pinned down yet who is most consistent? or
2) Has anybody really been consistent (on the upside, at least)?

In looking at their stats, Menlo has 4 pitchers with ERA's of less than 5 - between them , they have 2 wins -  One pitcher has an ERA of 5.06 and he has two wins -

I don't know other team's stats - I do know when you give up a lot of runs and have really high era's, you need to score a lot to win and that isn't happening either.

They are being outscored this season approx. 124 - 87.

Chapman pounded Ithaca last night 12-1.... Buddy Klovstad moved to 6-0 on the seaon and I think he has won 17 straight games dating back to last season.

Menlo's game scheduled for today vs. U Dallas was cancelled due to poor field conditions (rain las night).

Will not be made up.

Kean(NJ) beat Chapman last night 4-3. Looks like Chapman's pitching is finally coming around, but now their bats are struggling to put up runs.

Here is the schedule for Menlo at the California Invitational this weekend in Southern California:

Friday - vs WI-La Crosse at La Verne - 9 AM

Saturday - vs Montclair State at Claremont - 9 AM
vs La Verne at La Verne - 2 PM

Sunday - vs Cal Lu at Cal Lu - 12 noon

Menlo's second game agains U-Dallas was washed out - no makeup to be scheduled.

Wow!  Rutgers-Camden solved Buddy Klovstad (kind of).  The winning streak is over after Chapman lost today 3-2.  They didn't exactly hit him well, but scored 3 runs in the first and their pitching held on for the win.  Looks like Chapmans bats are going cold with back to back loses.

The two best pitchers that McMurry (12-4) has seen are Klovstad and ASC-East Pitcher of the Year, James Halle from Louisiana College.

Q. Why did the cop arrest the baseball player during a game?

A. 'cause he stole second base. ;D

Q Why did the coach kick Cinderella off the team?

A. 'Cause she ran away from the ball. ;D

Menlo survived the Cal Invite with a 3-1 record -

they beat WI-LAX, Montclair State and Cal Lu -
lost to La Verne

Thsi weeked is a big series for them - 4 more games against Cal Lu - at Menlo.

BigPoppa

It looks as if the West Region is shaping up to be a good one this year. Chapman is still hot at 15-6 and Cal-State East Bay is off to a 15-4 start.

They have a three game series starting March 31st at Chapman... should be a good one.
