I saw that Cal Lu and Menlo split a double-header the other day.  Looks like some pretty good pitching all day.  Too bad the others were rained out.

I pundited the first baseball poll and Regional Polls on the milti-region board.

Comments invited. ;)

Big series this weekend as west region #s 1 and 2 face off... Cal State East Bay (16-4) at Chapman (17-6). Should be a great three game series. I think Chapman takes two of three, if not a sweep.

This will be a great series.  Looks like Chapmans pitching is starting to roll a little but East Bay has some pretty good offensive numbers.  Could this be an early preview of the West regional???

BigPoppa

Cal-State East Bay takes game #1 Friday night 3-2 over Chapman. I have a feeling that this series will have a huge impact on regional seedings, or determine which one gets left out if it comes to that.

Interesting that Chapman did not throw their ace, Buddy Klovstad, Friday night. He usually starts all their series openers.

Big Poppa, does the DH today have two 9-inning games?

The Chapman coach may have been trying to split the series rather than risk being swept.  If I am looking at the Pool B's, then I specualte that he was trying to guarantee a Pool B bid, which I think that going 2-1 or 1-2 in the CSU-East Bay series gets him.

Was the Friday CSU-EB starter the ace of the staff?

BigPoppa

I think they will go 2-9s today... but it is pouring right now... I doubt they will play... supposed to rain tomorrow as well.

I think Easy Bay's Friday starter was their #1...

Ralph... it stopped raining in SoCal and cleared up... they are trying to dry the field right now!

But Chapman comes back on the Sat and Sunday to win 15-1 and 5-1.

I have updated the records in the quotation.  Chapman brought CSU-EB closer to the pack.

Tom Brady

Thats pretty funny Ralph.  Looks like Chapman put the wood to East Bay after a tough losson friday.  I wonder what this does to the regional outlook.  Is there a new poll coming out on monday?

Ralph Turner

Rick, I am not going to put much credence in the new poll, but I will await the NCAA.  I have run the regional records on the ASC-West.  (The ASC-East has 4 teams tied for first at 7-5 and 7 teams within 2 games of first.)

Redlands is 8-2 in West Region games, and does not play CSU-EB this year.  (Key wins: Chapman and Linfield)

Trinity in the SCAC-West is one other West Region team to watch. They are 15-7 in West Region Games.  They have a winnable game at Schreiner on Tuesday and then McMurry plays a key single game at Trinity on Wednesday.

Tom Brady

I got ya Ralph but how are 4 teams tied with 7-5 records??  That better be one very tough conference or the West is in trouble.
It would be very nice to see Redlands play East Bay this year but that doesnt look like it will happen until the regional (assuming both make it).  Redlands plays a pretty favorable schedule with most of its games at home (27 out of 40) so the only way they will probably ever face East Bay is if they make it to a regional due to the fact that East Bay already travels down south enough as it is.  It would be nice to see someone like Chapman or La Verne host a mini tournament so East Bay could play some more of the southern teams instead of the same ones every year (CLU, Pomona, Chapman).

Ralph Turner

Rick,
7-5 for four teams, 6-6 for one team, 5-7 for 2 more and 4-8 for the 8th place team. :)

CSU-East Bay split a 4 game series with Whittier this past weekend.

Should be an interesting tournament later this week at CSUEB -

They are hosting Chapman, Laverne, and Menlo
