Platteville gets a split at La Crosse. Maybe La Crosse isn't as good as advertised or expected.

ShineTime

Great win for Platteville but way to early to give up on the eagles especially considering it appears Point may be without 2 of their top 4 pitchers and their starting second baseman from last 2 years and Whitewater is without their stud hitter from last year due to undisclosed injury. If I recall Platteville took 2 from Point early last year and it woke the pointers up.

#6242
Warhawks (10-3): 20 7inn.
Loras (12-5): 10  7

After a 4-3 first inning the Warhawks put an 11 spot on the board in the second and routed Loras 20-10. Three Warhawks (Lee, Dupor and Malkow) pitched surrendering a combined 11 hits, 10 runs (6 ER) walking 6 and striking out 7.  Lee (1-0) was credited with the win. Holland, Scolon, Frank, Hopper, Theis and Jackson had multiple hits. Holland, Scolon, Frank, Koening, Hopper, Theis and Najera had multiple RBI.

Stout (5-4, 0-1): 0
Warhawks (11-3): 14 7inn.

Warhawks got all the runs they would need in the first at bat sending 10 batters to the plate who knocked out 5 hits, got a walk and a Stout error to put 6 across.  We added a pair of runs in the third and another 6 in the 7th when we sent 11 batters to plate, getting 6 hits and a pair of walks. C.Berendt (2-0) went the distance allowing 7 hits, a pair of walks and striking out 11. Hopper, Frank, Paden and Najera had multiple hits. Paden (4), Hopper (3), Najera (2) and Frank (2) had multiple RBI. While Scolon, Koening and Theis drove in a single RBI.

Stout (5-5, 0-2):2
Warhawks (12-3, 2-0): 6

Game two was a closer affair. Stout took an early 1-0 lead but the Warhawks answered with a pair in the second.  Stout tied the game with a run in the third but once again the Warhawks reclaimed it with their own run in the bottom of the inning and added 3 insurance runs in the 7th to create the final score.  Hagen (4-0) got the win surrendering 5 hits, 2 runs (1 ER), with a walk and 9 strikeouts over 7 innings. Cade Hansen finished the final 2 innings allowing 2 hits and striking out 3. Scolon, Frank and Jackson had multiple hits. Jackson (3), Theis (2) and Frank (1) had RBI.

Stout (5-6, 0-3): 6
Warhawks (13-3, 3-0): 9

Once again it was Stout who scored first with a run in the first and another in the 3rd.  However the Warhawks responded to take the lead for good with 4 runs in the bottom of the inning.  Adding a pair in the fourth and one in the fifth plus a pair in the 7th gave the Warhawks took a comfortable 9-3 lead.  Things got hairier in the eighth when Burk struggled out of the pen and Stout plated 3 drawing to within 3 at 9-6.   Hopper relieved Burk and picked up his first save allowing a pair of hits and striking out 3 in 1.2 innings.  Husebo (3-0) picked up the win going 7 innings allowing 7 hits, 3 runs (2 ER), with a walk and 7 strikeouts.  Scolon, Frank, Paden and Jackson all had multiple hits. Jackson had 4 RBI while Paden, Theis and Gordon each had one.

Stout (5-7, 0-4): 0
Warhawks (14-3, 4-0): 6

Hilker (2-0) started and was dialed in pitching a no hitter for the first 8.1 innings before surrendering Stout's first hit.  Hilker struck out 17 of the 26 hitters he faced.  Frank relieved him striking out both batters he faced.  Hilker's 17 Ks are the second most in program history.  The offense meanwhile pounded out 14 hits.  Scolon, Frank, Hopper and McVay all had multiple hits.  Hopper (2), Holland (1), Theis (1), Jackson (1) and McVay (1) had RBI.

Sorry for the length.  I've been out of country on vacation and I'm a tad compulsive about this stuff.

To do that on just 104 pitches makes it all the more impressive!

I like the Pointers young nucleus but am really struggling with the fact there's been no word on why Schultz and Weckler haven't pitched a single inning yet or why Jacob Boos hasn't played. Also haven't heard why Brennon Huber isn't playing just bizarre then factor in the fact Canterbury decided to not use his Covid year and Logan Mattson left to coach at Eau Claire and that's a ton to overcome. I believe they'll be capable of playing with anyone if Schultz and Weckler come back healthy but I'm not sure it's sustainable for Tomczak to catch every game and be as effective at the plate.  As of now here are my predictions for conference and it was relatively easy deciding:

1. Whitewater 2. La Crosse 3. Oshkosh 4. Point 5. Platteville 6. Stout 7. Eau Claire

Pointers don't seem to have a ton of speed on the bases and it's affecting their defense also but they also could look a ton better if their top 4 arms can all go. Whitewater right now has the edge over La Crosse I feel but both are top 15 teams in the country with potential to make the World Series. Point and Oshkosh both could surprise but don't see them being able to score with them!

Oshkosh adds game against Lakeland on April 20 after three games against MSOE and Carthage have been called due to weather.

Stout-Platteville series moved to Friday and Saturday at Stout. Smart decision.

Oshkosh-Whitewater should probably play Friday instead of Sunday as well. Probably need Friday to melt snow in Stevens Point or move the series to Eau Claire.

The Warhawks (16-3, 6-0) take both ends of today's doubleheader with Oshkosh (10-8, 4-2) 5-2 and 6-5.  Cade Berendt (3-0) went the distance in game one allowing just 3 hits, a pair of earned runs, striking out 6 with 3 walks. Danny Hopper with a pair of RBI doubles led the Warhawks who were held to just six hits. Hopper's first double put the WARHAWKS ahead 1-0 but the Titans plated a pair two innings later.  However the Warhawks tied the game with a run in the seventh on Hopper's second double and added 3 additional runs in the eighth on Scolon's bases loaded seeing eye double to create the final .

Oshkosh got on the board first in game two with a pair of runs in their first at bat on 3 hits. The Warhawks answered that with a pair of their own in the third on Frank's two run homer and took their first lead, 3-2, with a run in the fourth. That was short lived however as the Titans reclaimed the lead 5-4 with a pair of runs in the sixth.  A single Warhawks run in the bottom knotted the game and it went into the bottom of ninth when Dominik McVay's one out solo home run gave the Warhawks the 6-5 victory. Jack Hagen started and allowed 8 hits, 5 ER, walking a pair and striking out 4 in 5.1 innings.  Hansen relieved him with a pair of scoreless innings on 2 hits, 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Hopper (1-0) picked up the win pitching a scoreless ninth surrendering one walk.  Theis' 3 hits led the 11 hit offense.  Scolon, McVay and Jackson each had a pair of hits. Padan and O'Brien added RBI.

Sunday's games have been rescheduled to Monday.

The Warhawks (17-4, 7-1) and Oshkosh (11-9, 5-3) split today's doubleheader with Oshkosh winning the first game 6-3 and the second game going to the Warhawks 12-2 in a run rule shortened game.  Frank led the Warhawks at the plate getting a pair of doubles, a two run home run for a pair of RBI. Hopper had a pair of hits and Holland had an RBI. Huseboe (3-1) started and took the loss surrendering 6 ER on 7 hits in 6.2 innings. Huseboe had 10 strikeouts. Kottmeyer (1.1 IP, 2H) and McPherson (1 IP, 1K) finished the game. Waco was tough for the Titans allowing only a pair of hits over 7 shutout innings with 8 Ks.

Holland led off with a home run in game two. One of three extra base hits the Warhawks would get in the inning leading to scoring 6 runs.  Oshkosh would get a run in  the 6th and 7th but the Warhawks matched those with 4 and 2 respectively to end the game in seven. The Warhawks hit 7 extra base hits including 1 hr, 2 triples and 4 doubles in the game. Hopper led the way with 4 hits and 2 RBI.  Jackson had 3 hits and 3 RBI. Scolon and Theis each had a pair of hits and a pair of RBI.  Hilker (3-0) started pitching 6.1 IP allowing 6H, 2ER , 1BB and 7K. Eisenbarth struck out 1 finishing the game.

The win was Coach Vodenlich's 700th as Warhawks head coach.  In his 21st season at the helm Coach Vodenlich's record stands at 700-221-1 making him the all time wins leader in Warhawk history and second all time in the WIAC.

Thanks I seen that and was stoked hoping Jd Schultz or Mason Weckler would be back but found out both are done for the season don't know reason but know for sure neither are playing! Talk about a huge blow wow although they still do have experienced quality pitching just could've had a pitching staff good enough to offset some new young bats in lineup and good enough to win those low scoring games.

OMG talk about a day let alone 1 game! Pointers were up big and instead of finishing them off in 7 allowed Stout to extend the game and are playing with fire.

I'm stating the obvious here but I'm not sure how even Point or La Crosse are going to be able to take more than a game from Whitewater the way they're playing and can just destroy anyones pitching staff!

I know outlandish/outrageous statements is your "shtick" but let's pump the brakes here a bit...  Whitewater had faced Stout, and Oshkosh in 8 WIAC games before playing Platteville and Eau Claire this week.  In those 8 games, they scored 3, 5, 6, 6, 6, 9, 12 and 14.  Let's not let the recency bias of this week skew things too much!

Does Whitewater have a potent offense?  Absolutely!  Would it surprise me if they see a bit of a dip in the offensive production against La Crosse and Stevens Point?  Not at all...
