I'm not sure what to count Points season as seeing the season just seemed doomed before it started. No Jacob Boos to start and then to lose what essentially could've been there ace and #3 pitchers before season even began killed their season but in my opinion they most likely exceeded expectations given they had a freshman playing short how many games, Ferry wasn't close to what he was 2 years ago, having to constantly switch 2B, DH, and RF, and also the fact Pickering, Kenny Schultz, and Nick Paulson all didn't pitch to what they're capable of. Lot of bright spots though I thought Meinholz pitched well and Ehr and Olsen performed well for a freshman. Wish I had insight as to why Brennan Huber didn't play this season or what happened to Tommy Drohner I felt both would have good careers at Point. Questions moving forward are is JD Schultz ever playing again, what was Wecklers injury, is Van Ess coming back and using Covid year or can he, and a ton more but ultimately I'm not sure how they'll replace Comer and what he seemed to bring all the time.

#6301
Hagan throws a complete game on 105 pitches, allows 8 hits and strikes out 8 leading the Warhawks to a 11-3 win and their 8th conference tournament championship.  Seven runs in the first at bat pretty much put LaCrosse in a deep hole right off the bat.

Story of the WIAC this year can't tell you how many games for sure seen a team put up 5 or more in first inning but it was pretty high number I believe. Craziest game of the year had to be when Oshkosh blew huge lead vs La Crosse although there were a few others that come to mind

The Six game WIAC Tournament saw four great pitching performances!

Hilker, Paulsen, Deprez, and Hagen all dominated from start to finish which made the end results pretty anti-climatic in those games.  (Berendt also was dominant for the first six innings before faltering late!)

If Whitewater and La Crosse can get those same kind of performances on the mound in Regionals, I have a feeling we'll be seeing an All-WIAC Super Regional for the third straight season!

Good luck to both the Warhawks and Eagles this week!  I'm excited to see how the brackets shape up when they are released later today!

I came on to reply to Harpo's post this morning and it must've been deleted....  That's too bad!

Both Whitewater and La Crosse end up hosting for Regionals!

Whitewater will open with Crown College and California Lutheran and Centre will square off in the other game in the Whitewater Regional.

La Crosse will play Bethel in their first game while Benedictine and Coe will meet to round out the LA Crosse Regional.

Should both hosts win their Regional, they would meet one more time this season in Super Regionals.

The only surprise to me in these brackets was the MWC Tournament champion Bethel didn't get placed in either of these two Regionals.

Obviously you are meaning Beloit as the Midwest champs.

Well, Crown and Bethel literally can't bus with 500 miles to anywhere else, but the two WIAC teams.

And to get a good geography mix Hanover bused farther than needed to to Denison rather than Transy.

Also, a pretty bad mix of geography that Spalding can't host.

Yes, I meant Beloit..  Oops!

It would've been interesting to see how the brackets had changed if Lawrence had won the MWC instead of Beloit, as they aren't within 500 miles of Transylvania...

Quote from: cubs on May 09, 2024, 10:13:06 AMWhitewater and La Crosse hold strong #1 and #2 respectively in the third set of Region IX Regional Rankings that were released last night...  Stevens Point stays in the rankings, but drops a spot to #6 after their split against Whitewater and loss to below .500 Ripon squad.

Region IX   In-Division Record   Overall Record
1   Wisconsin-Whitewater   32-8   32-8
2   Wisconsin-La Crosse   29-11   29-11
3   Luther   26-14   26-14

6   Wisconsin-Stevens Point   25-15   25-15
7   St. Olaf   27-11   27-12
Not much of a change in the last Regional Rankings that were used to select at-large teams for Regionals except for Coe leaping both Luther and Buena Vista and Bethel replacing St. Olaf...

Whitewater goes with their #4 starter, Max Huseboe, in the Regional opener against Crown this morning and has staked him to a 7-1 lead.... Justcas a point of reference, Huseboe didn't throw a single pitch in the WIAC Tournament last weekend.

La Crosse getting another solid start from Tyler Schmitt, similar to his outing against Stevens Point in the WIAC Tournament, and the Eagles hold a 7-1 lead over Bethel in the opening game of their Regional.

La Crosse and Whitewater both get seven innings from their starting pitchers and cruise to comfortable wins over the MIAC and UMAC Tournament Champions.

Whitewater couldn't be happier with how things went today as they have their choice of Hilker, Berendt, or Hagen tomorrow with a berth in the Regional Championship on the line.

La Crosse going with Owen DePrez on the mound against Coe this afternoon. DePrez was outstanding against Stevens Point in an elimination game of the WIAC Tournament last weekend, giving up just 2 hits in 6.2 IP while striking out 11.

Whitewater and La Crosse each put up crooked numbers early to jump out to nice lead this afternoon!

La Crosse hangs a five on the scoreboard in the first inning while Whitewater put up three runs in the first and five more in the second inning to take am early 8-0 lead... Hilker also struck out the side in the first inning.
