Oshkosh benefiting greatly for a day's postponement and no conference series this weekend to able to throw their horses in Waco and Brinkman today.

Lets just call it the way it is, this Point team doesn't do anything well.  They are average across the board and that doesn't get it done in the WIAC.  Opper isn't getting the job done with this pitching staff, he needs to do a better job developing these guys.  Richter needs to bring in the impact transfers next year or it will be much of the same.  La Crosse and Whitewater continue to load up.

Quote from: tomt4525 on March 13, 2024, 12:14:21 PMI guess there is no information on Cootway?
Cootway was back in the lineup today for Whitewater's DH split against La Crosse. Cootway had a HR in the nightcap that saw the Warhawks blow up the Eagles bullpen for 17!!! Runs in the 8th inning of a 23-1 victory.

Warhawks take both ends of today's twin bill with LaCrosse 10-7 and 10-2. Husebro struggled in the opener allowing 5 LaCrosse runs and failing to finish the inning.  Hansen relieved him and pitched well surrending just a pair of runs and striking out 7 in 6.2 innings for the win. Hopper finished up and picked up his second save. McVay had a pair of home runs including a grand slam and 5 rbi while Thies drove in 3.

Hilker was sharp in game two going 7 innings allowing just 2 hits and a single earned run while striking out 10. Eisenbarth finished the final 2 innings allowing an earned run on 4 hits and striking out 3. Scolon hit a pair of solo home runs. In addition to Scolon, Hopper, Theis and McVay had 2 rbi.

Excellent weekend. Taking 3 of 4 really strengthened our position. LaCrosse and Stevens Point still have a weekend against each other and we finish with 4 against the Pointers.  First we have to take care of business in Platteville Wednesday.

I get the feeling we are headed towards a WIAC Conference Tournament that looks something like this:

1. Whitewater (Currently 16-2 with 2 at Platteville and 4 AT Stevens Point)
2. UWO (Cuurently 9-7 with 4 vs Stout and 4 at Platteville)
3. La Crosse (Currently 10-6 with 4 AT Stevens Point and 4 AT Eau Claire)
4. Stevens Point (Currently 11-5 with 4 vs La Crosse and 4 AT Whitewater)

A Whitewater sweep of Platteville on Wednesday along with anything other than a Stevens Point series win against La Crosse this weekend would clinch a regular season title for the Warhawks before they even step off the bus for their final WIAC series of the season...

If I'm not mistaken, the first set of Regional Ranking should be released this Wednesday, so that will give us an idea of who is in contention for the Pool C bids....

If the Tournament gets played. Rain all this weekend.

It was pretty obvious prior to today but Point losing to lowly Lawrence pretty much sums up the season. It was doomed from get go with Boos out the first how many games and losing arguably their 1 and 2 pitchers in JD Schultz and Mason Weckler. Now even if they do come back next year healthy they lose Comer and I'm just not sure they're ready to score enough runs to keep up with Whitewater, Oshkosh, Stout, or La Crosse. Whitewater seriously has the WIAC tournament and regular season titles wrapped up and I'm prepared for Pointers to finish 0-8 vs La Crosse and Whitewater! Who are they going to pitch that will stop La Crosse from
hitting ball all over the place? Their so called ace wouldn't shut down the best High school team in WI and I don't get why he keeps going out as the ace and How high does Ferry's ERA have to be before they'll just shut him down I'd rather see Tyler Soule close games at this point?

The first set of Regional Rankings were released earlier today:

Region IX
Buena Vista   22-9   22-9
Coe   20-12   20-12
Loras   21-10   21-10
Luther   20-11   20-11
Wisconsin-La Crosse   21-9   21-9
Wisconsin-Stevens Point   19-9   19-9
Wisconsin-Whitewater   27-5   27-5

Remember the first set of rankings are now done alphabetically, but they at least give you an idea of who is under consideration.  I'd be very surprised to see anyone besides Whitewater in the #1 spot moving forward.

No sweep for Whitewater today, as Platteville defeats the Warhawks 7-4 in the opener of their DH today...

Warhawks rally to take game two 6-4 and gain a split in the series with Platteville. Tough day trying to get the hits we needed when we needed them. Pitchers we feasted on prior were getting us to hit ground balls or lazy flies yesterday.

I figured Shine's glowing endorsement of our superiority would be the kiss of death.  I actually cringed when I read it. At least we are still in total control of our destiny.

La Crosse vs Stevens Point and Stout vs UWO being proactive as they adjust their scheduled DH's from Saturday and Sunday to Friday and Saturday.  In addition they bumped up the start times to 10:00 AM today and tomorrow in hopes of getting the series in.
