A pair of mercy rules to start the day as Stevens Point knocks off La Crosse 11-1 and UWO defeats Stout 10-0...

La Crosse vs Stevens Point and Stout vs UWO being proactive as they adjust their scheduled DH's from Saturday and Sunday to Friday and Saturday.  In addition they bumped up the start times to 10:00 AM today and tomorrow in hopes of getting the series in.

Nice to see the move, get some games in, and I'm happy to be wrong. Couple of splits today.

Quote from: ShineTime on April 09, 2024, 10:04:14 PMThanks I seen that and was stoked hoping Jd Schultz or Mason Weckler would be back but found out both are done for the season don't know reason but know for sure neither are playing! Talk about a huge blow wow although they still do have experienced quality pitching just could've had a pitching staff good enough to offset some new young bats in lineup and good enough to win those low scoring games.
You better get some new sources....

JD Schultz made his season debut this afternoon throwing an inning of scoreless baseball in relief in the Game #2 loss to La Crosse.

Stout and UWO split once again today... Stout won the opener 4-2 and then UWO turned a 3-2 sixth inning deficit into a 14-4 mercy rule victory to get a series split.

La Crosse misses wide right and Stevens Point wins the opener today 17-14...

La Crosse hangs on and wins the series finale 8-7 to split the series with Stevens Point...

Platteville sweeps Eau Claire and could use another sweep tomorrow to make their series with UWO next weekend a little more interesting...

A sweep by Platteville tomorrow would mean they'd need to take three out of four from UWO to earn the #4 seed in the WIAC Tournament. A split tomorrow would mean they'd need to sweep UWO next weekend.

Platteville-Eau Claire postponed to Wednesday. Bummer for Platteville to have use more pitching midweek, before that pivotal series against Oshkosh.

Wonder why they didn't just go Friday/Saturday like the other two series?

Wonder if it was because Platteville had a WIAC DH on Wednesday against Whitewater?

I would say probably not because now Platteville still has to go Wednesday, Friday, Saturday this week. So, it's either they go Wednesday, Friday, Saturday this week or last week. Pick your poison.

Well they probably rolled the dice that the weathermen would be wrong (as they often are) and hoped it would be Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, Friday, Saturday!  ;D

I was actually told by a former player Schultz and Weckler were done for the season so very interesting Schultz pitched an inning. I'm wondering why he's pitching at this point unless he's going to be able give them starter innings and if that were the case wouldn't he have pitched more in the final game bs LaCrosse a game they could've had or at this point are the Pointers going forward with mentality they need to win the WIAC tournament and saving him for more innings in tournament? If somehow Point finds a way to split at Whitewater and finish 2nd in WIAC tournament could they possibly get in I'd say highly doubtful primarily because they lost to Lawrence!

Key word being "former" player....  Once guys become former players, they're rarely as connected to the program as they were when they were actually practicing and playing on a daily basis.

A split with Whitewater and a runner-up finish in the WIAC Tournament puts Stevens Point at 16 losses (assuming they beat both Ripon and St. Norbert this week.)  For comparison, they were 29-11 last year when they earned their Pool C bid.  I don't see a 28-16 or 29-16 Stevens Point getting in, especially with La Crosse likely in front of them at the Pool C table.  Heck, Whitewater didn't even get in last year and they sat with a 30-13 regular season record.

Whitewater and La Crosse come in at #1 and #2 respectively in the second set of Region IX Regional Rankings that were released today...  Stevens Point is also in at #5, but that was before their loss to a 12-20 Ripon squad yesterday.

It's scenario two at play this weekend in Platteville. Pioneers will need a sweep this weekend to make the tournament after the Blugolds comeback in today's nightcap.

Weather wise Friday looks great and afternoon rain Saturday. Could see some move ups to 10am starts Saturday morning.

I know this is a WIAC board, but I'm wondering how a 27-9 club located in Appleton is not ranked regionally ahead of say, Coe and Loras?
