Yes they do especially vs a team that's as good in first inning as the Eagles are. Was there a long delay and Hilker struggled due to it? I'd still be stunned if Hawks don't take both I definitely think having 2 legit 1s is absolutely needed to make any run at World Series.

They often say the best time to get to a dominant starting pitcher is the first inning before they "settle in." Well La Crosse pushed across three runs in the first inning yesterday against Hilker and the trio of Schmitt, Matl, and Katz were able to make it hold up as the Eagles take Game #1 of the Super Regionals 3-2.

I would guess Whitewater goes with Berendt in Game #2 and if La Crosse follows their plan from Regionals, they'll probably go with DePrez.

On a somewhat unrelated note, Congratulations to the UWO softball team for knocking off defending National Champion Trine University twice yesterday  to advance to the Women's College World Series in Texas. After losing the opener on Thursday 9-0 with their "ace" on the rubber, UWO went to their freshman #3 pitcher and she threw a pair of complete games to help the Titans advance.

Berendt throws a complete game, three-hit shutout while striking out 13 and Whitewater forces the "if necessary" game with an 8-0 victory over the Eagles.

The third and decisive game starts in about five minutes and I'd have to think we'd see a Hagen vs Katz pitching matchup?

Eagles going with Anderson over Katz, but Whitewater is indeed rolling with Hagen....

Whitewater with a 4-0 lead through four innings... La Crosse on their third pitcher of the game with the season on the line as Bouche replaced Anderson on the fourth inning and Katz replaced Bouche later that same inning.

Whitewater shows their quality starting pitching depth as they get their third straight complete game of the Super Regionals and defeat La Crosse 8-2 to advance to the College World Series next weekend!

Of all the WIAC teams, I truly thought the Warhawks were set up the best to make a deep postseason run behind the arms of Hilker, Berendt, and Hagen! Talk about an embarrassment of riches!

Scolan robbing a 2 run homerun early in first game yesterday crushed La Crosses chances Deprez was really throwing well in the end the better team won and most likely will win it all

Two Virginia teams from the ODAC made it to the d3 World Series...Lynchburg University & Randolph-Macon College!

How does two teams in the same conference qualify for the WS?  WIAC just keeps beating each other in Supers!!!???  Why can't the best conference in nation be given that opportunity?

Whitewater is seeded #3 and will open up against Randolph Macon College in the final game Friday night at 8:00. The #2/#7 matchup that is part of their side of the bracket is Salve Regina vs Birmingham Southern College.

They actually had that chance in 2018 when Whitewater was placed in the Central Region bracket while UWO was put in the Midwest Region. Whitewater opened the Regional 2-0 and then lost back-to-back games to Rhodes and Texas-Tyler. UWO went 3-0 to start and then had Concordia-Chicago beat them twice on the final day to keep them from playing in the final World Series played in Appleton.

In addition, both La Crosse and Whitewater made the College World Series in 2016... They combined to go 1-4 however, with La Crosse earning the lone victory over Emory in a loser's bracket contest.

There was a year Point was put in regional in Illinois can't remember what year but thought for sure they were going to World Series but blew it

In 2015 Stevens Point was in Iowa while Whitewater and La Crosse were both in La Crosse. La Crosse ended up going on and facing Cortland in the Championship Series and finishing as the National Runner-Up.

So that said, that's three times in four years where the WIAC had a chance at getting multiple teams to the College World Series, so to say they weren't given the same "opportunity" couldn't be more inaccurate despite the fact that they've faced each other in Super Regionals each of the past three seasons.
