Wow, Nick Vera has re-established himself with the A Johnson City Cardinals.....  after starting off like blazes, he slumped down near the Mendoza line and has rebounded to be hitting near .300...

All the TU/SCAC faithful hopes he finishes strong and 'represents'!!!!!

Theo Stathakis... watch out for this kid this year!!!

Any ideas about the new recruits at Birmingham/Southern? Mostly freshman, where are they from, any standouts, any knowledge out there?
Coaches are new as well, should be exciting to watch.

Welcome to the boards, ffb.  The SCAC is a great board which gets started sooner than most.

There are plenty of good posters on this board.  Which team do you follow?

ffb

I like to go for the underdogs. I try to follow the new and developing guys .
Would like to see BSC do well for that reason.  Glad to hear the conference starts earlier with posts than the others. Would like to know more about the
Also , they had a strong baseball school, would like to see it continue and have some of the guys feel the success of the past.  I do think Rhodes will continue to be strong from what I have read. Thanks for the welcome.

Fall practice has started , will continue until Oct. 20. Anyone in Birmingham can attend from what the website said today. 32 new recruits at BSC.

I know it's early, but what is the outlook for the 2008 season?

What kind of pitching is returning for the schools etc?   Any ideas as to the final standings.

Wow, i finally found a board that is active, alive and willing to share inight on baseball during the fall. Even though, i follow SCIAC baseball, i hope that i can learn something new from your schools and this site. Awesome, insight so far. ;D

SCAC board is a very good message board.  The SCAC added Austin College last year, and the 'Roos responded by winning the Tourney.

There is plenty of interconference play between:

Millsaps and Miss College,
Austin College and UT-Dallas/UT-Tyler/McMurry/Hardin Simmons
Trinity/Southwestern and HSU/McM/Texas Lutheran/Schreiner/UMHB/Concordia-Austin

The SCAC-East is almost a separate conference in its non-conference opponents in baseball.

Nick Vera (Trinity University) played 3rd and 1st for the Johnson City Cards this summer.... hit .286

Been told he's in Florida instructional league, and may be assigned to play winter ball.

Trinity should be 'locked and loaded' this season.  Hope that Oates and Bignall have great senior campaigns!

It will be an interesting season for Millsaps this year as a ton of talent graduated last year.  Multiple year starters who graduated included Luke Morrow at 1st, Nick Crawford (and his NCAA record for being HBP) at 2nd, Justin Carter at SS, Jason Hadley in LF, and John Pacillo in CF.  Also gone are utility man Taylor Jones, and I'm not sure about Joe Blades and Nicky Prather--they were listed as juniors but I think they graduated.  Also Brent Buffa is at Millsaps but he has an appeal pending with the NCAA on gaining another year of eligibility.

That's a lot to lose but Hunter Owens, the reigning SCAC offensive player of the year is back in RF and Hunter Abrams is back at 3rd.  Starting pitchers Jay Hollenbeck and Brandon Ingram are back for sure (I see them all the time) and I feel sure that Travis Bogue is back, so pitching will be a strong point for this year's team.

The Millsaps team plays several scrimmage games with Hinds JC today and I'll probably get out to see a couple of the games.  It will be interesting to see just how strong the Millsaps team is this year.  With so much talent graduating, it would be natural to think it might be a down year.  On the other hand, when All-American Garner Wetzel graduated in 2006, his replacement Hunter Owen came in and was named a 1st team All-American in 2007, so I'll take a wait and see attitude about all of the new starters that will be on the field this season.

BSC has 2 scrimmages Sunday starting at noon. This is homecoming weekend . Playing a jc. Don't know which one. Will try to get more details and some names of players if any lists are out. This is a young team. Should be a good day for baseball. Everyone is welcome to attend. Families are invited. Great field to host baseball.

IMO this program becomes a national-title caliber team within a decade, and I'm probably being conservative there.

Good coaching, good talent base, super facilities by D-III standards. I see no way this doesn't happen.

Not quite my post-Katrina Tulane to D-III doomsday scenario, but maybe close.
