TUSid,

Thanks for the updates about the Millsaps' bats and Coach Page.  I heard Page was very well behaved.  For all who might care, Coach has his moments with umpires, and his most memorable moments with umpires have come in San Antonio.  These moments, though, have certainly decreased in frequency over the last several years, and Millsaps very much enjoys the trip to San Antonio.

Congrats to your basketball teams for getting bids to the tourney!

Trinity came back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Shreiner 9-3.  Will Becker hit a HR in the win.

DPU beat Marian 7-6 yesterday.  7 errors in the game, DPU making 4  of them. Needless to say, struggled in the field a little.  My first look at DPU this year, and they look kinda rusty early in the year, but it was good to see the bats finally come around a little bit.  DPU 3-2 on the year.

If the weather allows, the Tigers and Lynx have scheduled one of their make-up games this Fri. 3/3, 7:00 p.m. at USA Stadium in Millington, TN. Of interest, this site was formerly (1986-1996) used for USA Olympic Baseball training.

The remaining four games of the season series are to be scheduled for Fri.-Sun., 3/24-3/26, in San Antonio.

Ah, yes,,, been there...  the 2000 SCAC Spring Sports Festival (baseball tourney) was held there.
I seem to recall Coach Page's performance as being one to remember (or forget).
Nice park in the middle of nowhere! (Thanks for reminding me dirty_south)

That wild and crazy Coach Page won another game yesterday.  Millsaps beat Huntingdon College 16-5.  Huntingdon came into the game at 7-0, including 2 wins over Oglethorpe and 2 wins over Sewanee.

All the info I have is an abreviated box score and a brief story that was in our local paper.  Millsaps had 21 hits including 3 doubles and a triple by Derrick Boland and a grand slam by Justin Carter.  It looks like Hutzel gave up 4 runs in the 1st for Millsaps and then Ingram and Mizerany only gave up 1 run in relief (8 inning game--10 run rule).

The box score isn't up yet but here's the link to the Huntingdon website and you can check it later if you want to see all of the stats:

Looks like Millsaps got a quality road win at Huntingdon.  Thanks to Frank for the update.

History, as for Coach Page's infamous episode at Millington......I remember the evening well....I was a sophomore with a lot more baseball to learn.   This happened in the middle of a stretch of seasons when there was no love lost between the Majors and Tigers.  Coach Scannell was the new guy on the block, and he and Page squared off in a battle of wills.  Page and Scannell both contributed to that ordeal.  I'll always defend Page, and I do know that he was provoked that night.  Things are quite different now between the baseball programs at Trinity and Millsaps.  The players for each team have mutual respect for each other.  Both teams play hard, and there is no longer any distracting jibberrish that comes from the dugouts.  Plus, Page and Scannell are very good friends as baseball coaches go.

Due to possible bad weather in the Conway area, the Trinity Baseball Tigers will not travel to Arkansas this week-end. Therefore, forget the rescheduled game with Rhodes on Friday night at Millington,TN and the two single day games at Hendrix on Saturday and Sunday.

Instead, Hendrix will travel to San Antonio for a double-header with the Tigers this Sat., 3/4 starting at 2:00 p.m., and a single game this Sun., 3/5 starting at noon.

All is well that ends well (we can hope)  :)

Interesting matchup this weekend between Southwestern and Millsaps in Jackson.  Doubleheader on Saturday and single game on Sunday.  The Pirates typically play well against the Majors home or away.

Previous season breakdowns......head to head regular season wins/losses between Southwestern vs. Millsaps back to 2001 season:

2005:  Southwestern won 4 out of 5
2004:  Millsaps won 4 out of 5
2003:  Millsaps won 3 out of 5
2002:  Southwestern won 4 out of 5
2001:  Southwestern won 4 out of 5  (this was the year Millsaps swept everyone else in conference play)

ETG... I like the 'flexibility' shown by Hendrix and TU...  Maybe DPU football should take a lesson.

Wow,,, arms and bats came alive today for TU (all right it was Hendrix), but Brian Oates pitched a no-hitter in the first game (7 innings)

and Chuck Huggins followed with a 1 hitter (a mercy rule 21-0,, and the reserve first baseman 'ole'ed' one with  one out in the 7th).

Bignall is scheduled to close it out tomorrow.
So close.... does anyone remember 2 no-hitters in a doubleheader????

Oh,,, it appears DPU is still sensitive about the football cancellation and failure to reschedule...  I'm over it,,, you're not!  Maybe Hendrix needs to take lessons from DPU!

If you're so 'over it', why even bring it up? That's really weak.

DPU 8, Benedictine 4 today - to keep board activity baseball related. PJ Mitchell took a no-no into the 8th and fanned 10.

Millsaps took 2 from Southwestern Saturday afternoon, 11-4 and 7-6.  The two teams play a single game today at 1.  There's a brief story and links to the box scores on the Southwestern website:  http://www.southwestern.edu/athletics/
