Trinity pounded our 17 runs on 15 hits to beat Rutgers 17-4. Evan Jones had 7 rbi's with a 2b & HR (grand slam) and scored 4 runs, Jordon Pennington had 4 rbi's with a 2b and a HR also scoring 4 runs, Dom Robusto and Dillian Early both had 3 hits.

Brian Oates went 6 innings, giving up 2 runs while striking out 5.

Final game of the series Sunday morning.

I love the smell of salami in the night air!  Great job Evan!

How about Evan Jones of Trinity.
2 HR's, 1 triple, and 13, yes 13 RBIs in the weekend series. As you might expect, he had a bundle of hits.
Wow!!! Wow!!!

Rutgers-Camden was 15-24 last season, but only 2-16 in the NJAC.

My bad!

Krakatoa

Rutgers-Camden isn't involved in Trinity's sweep, as the Tigers played Rutgers-Newark.  The Scarlet Raiders were 12-26 last year, (NJAC 7-11).

It's great to be able to watch the games this year.  And yeah, Evan Jones is knockin' 'em dead!!  Way to go, Evan!  And how about Calbick, Robusto, and Prato-Matthews?  So far (and yes, it's early) it looks like Coach Scannell has brought in some great young talent that will greatly benefit Trinity baseball for several years to come.

Ralph,
This very young Trinity team had very good chances to sweep Condordia.
While I don't pay much attention to could have, should have, I do here.
This team has very, very good pitching.  Bronson may be with the top in DIII.
What Evan Jones did this weekend can give a young team a huge amount of confidence.
Trinity bats will be week to week for those freshman to get better and better..
Their pitching looks really good.  For CUA to beat UT Tyler 2-3 and for a very young Trinity team to be in a position to win all 3 vs CUA provides a very good look for Trinity.
Their freshman hitters are going to be better.  Their pitching is "GOOD."
I have never seen Bronson pitch but our son, who I think is a great judge of pitching, raves about him.
I am so proud of Brian Oates and have every finger crossed that he will be as good in April and May as he is now, and I think  he will.  Trinity is back!

Good pitching is what is missing on the average team in this part of the country!

I will follow Trinity with that in mind!

Thanks for the assessment!

CUA only took the first game of the UT Tyler series.

I completely agree with the rest of your assessment.

Let's wait until these Trinity freshmen win something before we crown them the next kings of the SCAC. They are 4-3 and beat a poor team from Rugers-who cares, who has been outside three times before their first game. I'm sure Trinity is good but you guys are talking like they just won the World Championship....lets just realx and enjoy watching this thing unfold. Long way to go.

Millsaps lost both games to Piedmont this weekend, 7-4 in an 11 inning game and then 9-6 yesterday.  That drops Millsaps to 6-4 after a 5-0 start.  I haven't seen any of the last 6 games (2 at Emory, Belhaven, at Huntingdon, and the 2 with Piedmont) but it seems like hitting and fielding have been problematic as one might expect with so many new starters.

Millsaps plays 12 of their next 13 games on the road with 11 of those games being out of state.  With the schedule and all the new starters, I don't see this team rebounding to the point that they have a shot at an at-large berth.  In a way, that's not bad since they can now focus for the next few weeks on different lineups, etc.  The talent is certainly there to do well in the SCAC league play and in the SCAC Tournament, they just seem to need time to mess together.

Here's a page with links to box scores of their games this season:

Lou, those seem like very odd comments.
The previous posts commented on how pitching performances by Bronson, Oates and others combined with the hitting of Jones and Hoover was giving the Trinity freshman time to develop and make the extremely difficult transition from high school to college, against good teams like Concordia and supposedly lesser teams, as you view them like Rutgers-Newark.
Having Jones and Hoover produce in the middle of the lineup can be contagious, and it can also take some pressure off the freshman.
With all that said, the freshman do need to produce consistently.  They also need to get better every game.
Trinity is doing some things to suggest they could be very good by the end of April when everything matters, but they still need to do it on the field.
If you have a problem with posts of that type from myself and J_S_G, so be it.

AC had a horrible outing last night against ETBU, a team they run-ruled last week.  They had 6 errors resulting in 10 unearned runs all by the fifth inning, leading to a 13-9 loss.  Just a sloppy game all around.

On the brightside, soph. shortstop Andy White is really turning into one heckuva ballplayer.  So far this season he's ripping the cover off the ball...batting .475 with 8 doubles, a triple, 10 runs scored, and 10 RBI in 10 games.

Still, you're not going to win many games when you give up 10 unearned runs.  Frustrating game to watch.

Millsaps is playing D1 Jacksonville State this afternoon.  Coach Page is moving some guys around trying to find the right combination.  He has 3 freshmen starting today.  Millsaps lost to Jacksonville yesterday 11-2 or 11-3.  Tait Hendrix and Jay Hollenbeck combined to strike out 13 in 8 innings, but there were also 8 or 9 walks in the mix.

Millsaps is off to a better start today with 5 hits in the top of the 1st and a 2-1 lead after one.  Brandon Ingram is on the mound for Millsaps.  Link to live stats:

Millsaps leads Jacksonville 11-1 going into the bottom of the third.  They have had 11 hits, including a HR by Derrick Boland, 2 doubles by Russ Boyd, and doubles by Hunter Owen and Billy Murphy.  There's still a long way to go before claiming a win today, but it is nice to see the Millsaps bats heat up again.
