The Millsaps at Rhodes games was cancelled.  According to the Rhodes website, Rhodes will come to Jackson Saturday and play Wabash at Millsaps at 11.  The Millsaps schedule still shows Millsaps playing Wabash at 2:00 on Saturday.  All of this is obviously due to weather conditions, and especially the road conditions between Memphis and Jackson.

Drew Bignall takes the hill for the Tigers tonight agaist Desalles University.

This is a big game for the Tigers because of it. If Bignall comes back and appears to be back at top form, they could have a scary rotation with Bronson, Oates and Bignall.

It's snowing in Jackson at the moment (11:20 PM), but it's a light snow and tomorrow is suppose to be sunny with a high of 50.  It is my understanding that there will be a Wabash DH at Millsaps tomorrow, with Wabash taking on Rhodes in the opener at 11 and then Millsaps in the second game around 2 or 2:30.

I must not understand basic scoring because how does Poffenroth get the win for Trinity when TU was up 6-2 when Bignall left the game?

Here's the box score of the game you are asking about:

Bignall did not pitch the usually required half a game that is needed to get the win as a starting pitcher, only going 4 of the 9 innings.  I say usually because there are exceptions that were covered in recent pages of this thread during a discussion of the Rhodes vs. Rust game.

Wabash lost an odd SCAC doubleheader today, falling to Rhodes 5-1 in the opener and then dropping game 2 against Millsaps.  This oddity was a result of games being rescheduled because of bad weather.

Holt won the game for Rhodes and Travis Bogue pitched 5 scoreless innings to get the win for Millsaps.  Aaron Williams pitched the final 4 innings and got the save.  Derrick Boland had a homerun in a game where the pitchers kept the batters generally under control.

Should have given you a heads-up, Frank.  DPU was in Jackson this afternoon and took a pair from Blackburn. 8-1 and 10-7 the finals.

Apparently, the boys are on the bus towards Conway.  They'll play a pair of singles against Hendrix and Central Baptist on Monday.

Conference play begins next weekend, what has the preseason shown us? It is fun to predict what a season will look like before it begins, now that we have "seen" the teams, what is going to happen in coference play?

DePauw and Oglethorpe, yes. Or I am making too much of this opening weekend for the Lynx.  Ozarks will do well to finish fourth in the ASC-East.

Back on the opening weekend, Ralph thought it was a bad sign for Rhodes that they lost to a weak Ozarks team.  At the time, I too thought that it looked bad for Rhodes to lose to the U. of the Ozarks, and then Millsaps only beat Ozarks by a 6-5 score.  Apparently that wasn't so bad since Ozarks is now 15-2, having scored 14 or more runs in 9 of those 17 games.  Only once all year have they scored less runs in a game than the 5 runs they scored against both Rhodes and Millsaps.

Also, the pitcher who beat Rhodes just won the National player of the week award after striking out 14 in a game, including 11 straight.  It looks like losing to the Ozarks is something that a lot of teams will do this season and it looks like that win will be a very good win on the Millsaps record.

In a related post to the above, I thought Millsaps was having somewhat of a growing year with just a 11-5 record at this point in the season.  Then I got to looking more closely at the 5 losses and realized that they were all to very tough opponents:

--Lost 4-1 at #11th ranked Emory to split that 2-game series
--Lost 6-5 to NAIA Belhaven College, a team that is now 18-8 with a 12 game winning streak.
--Lost 11-3 to D1 Jacksonville State then came back and beat Jacksonville 17-3 the next day to split the 2-game series.
--Lost 7-4 to #17 ranked Piedmont in 11 innings
--Lost 9-6 to Piedmont.

Along the way they have picked up the win over the #24 Ozarks team, a win over Rhodes, 4 wins over a 7-7 LaGrange team, a win over an 8-8 Mississippi College team, along with the above mentioned wins over Emory and Jacksonville.

All in all, maybe the 11-5 doesn't look too bad since this is a team that is trying to replace so many starters from the 2007 season.  Once the hitting comes around, this team might just be the team to beat in the SCAC.

Today's Trinity-TLU game was moved to Trinity due to field conditions in Seguin....  check TU's baseball site for audio/video links

Millsaps defeats Mississippi College this evening 8-1 behind a strong pitching performance of Tait Hendrix.

Trinity let a 7-3 lead slip away in an 8-7 loss to TLU last night. The bats came out on fire, scoring 2 runs in each of the first 3 innings, but then cooled and faded late.

The team still looks strong for a bunch that starts 4-5 freshman each game. They are 8-5, with those 5 losses coming by a total of 6 runs.

They face off against Division One, University of Buffalo night at 7:30 PM before hitting the road for Hendrix.

JSG's Weekly rankings has some interesting analysis on UOzarks.

I am surprised for Ozarks as well.  They seem to be making noise on the East to help de-stabilize the division that had been "proverbially conceded" to UT-Tyler.  The Eagles face UT-Dallas and UT-Tyler in the next two weekends, on the road.

The ASC Tourney is on the West this year.

Millsaps beat Huntingdon 17-11 yesterday in a ball game that seemed to drag on and on after Millsaps took a 9-0 lead in the first inning.  Huntingdon outhit Millsaps 17-8 but Millsaps received 16 free baserunners via 14 walks and 2 hit-by-pitch.  In fairness to the Millsaps hitters, I think it is difficult to find any rhythm at the plate when the opposing pitchers are walking almost 2 batters per inning.

It is my understanding that all 4 games of the Millsaps at Austin series will be broadcast this weekend.  The starting time for those games will be 6 on Friday, a DH starting at 1 on Saturday, and a noon game on Sunday.  The link to the broadcast is:  http://www.espnradio1240.com/

My guess is that Millsaps will use Travis Bogue, Aaron William, Tait Hendrix, and Brandon Ingram as the starters this weekend.  It will be interesting to see how they fare in this first SCAC series.
