Leadoff Man

Rhodes is pulling out all the stops in order to try to make it into a regional, but it seems that alot of people think Millsaps is more deserving of a South Region Playoff spot, at least according to D3baseball's latest poll.

There's no secret to what they are trying to do and it has nothing to do with how many regular season games they played.  It's obvious that the Lynx are trying to pick up a few points as far as Opponent's Win Percentage and Opponent's Opponent's Win Percentage are concerned.  Two criteria for a Pool B and C Bid.

Look at who they've added and some interesting facts.
1. #4 Salisbury (Md)... 37-2 overall... .949 Win Percentage
**They were ranked #1 in the South Region for the first Regional Rankings - April 24

2. Greensboro College... 25-14 overall... .641 Win Percentage
**Also an in-region opponent.

*And they are making both trips to Maryland and North Carolina.
Salisbury had completed their season.  They need some competition to keep their edge.  A game versus Rhodes is a win-win!

Neither the NCBWA/D3Baseball.com nor any other poll is recognized as criteria by the selection committee.

I applaud the aggressive scheduling.

Greensboro is doing the same thing - looking for quality wins.  Why not stop off in N.C it is on the way home from Salisbury.

I am looking forward to Rhodes-Salisbury game.

Okay Millsaps fans,

We ASC fans remember the buzzer beater that knocked UMHB out of the Sweet 16!

:D ;)

Maybe it's just me, but both of those last two posts struck me the wrong way.  I believe they both would have struck Trinity fans the wrong way if it had been Millsaps that won the game last Sunday.

History Major, you have got to be kidding me.  And why are they calling it a miracle versus Millsaps?  People come from behind to win baseball games all the time, it's no miracle.  I love it how Trinity fans are making a big joke about this and the football game tying together.  There is no comparison.  It will be nice when all this comes back around to the Tigers and all the gloating stops.  It's getting ridiculous with the TU fans and the comments.

Frank, I totally agree with your last post.  Had it been the other way around, I believe that Trinity fans would've taken offense to that.

ILVBB

Relax; making reference to prior events (football) is a way of giving context to the event. Yes, teams do come from behind.

Using the word "miracle" is giving credit and respect to a terrific Millsaps team that had absolutely crushed the ball and dominated the three previous games and the first 8 innings of the final game.

I was there, I am proud of the kids on both teams. Millsaps for being a great team, led by coaches that have instilled passion and pride into some terrific young men. Trinity for never quitting, believing in themselves and having the faith and gusto to come back and win.

Last weekend is why baseball, especially at the D3 level, is such an important life lesson.

Pat Coleman

Agreed -- calling a rally from three down in the bottom of the ninth miraculous is a huge stretch. If that's the standard for "miracle" then miracles happen on a weekly basis.

This is weak.

major_fan,
Since we are all "fans," I think we tend to "react" as fans do.
Personally, there are some life's lessons here in my view.
They include watching the class that both teams and coaches showed after the score is announced.
You  see Coach Page getting his players lined up and his hugging more than one of the Trinity players.
You see Coach Scannell, instead of celebrating with his players, walking out of the dugout  and directly to the Millsaps 3B to  talk with him.  I have a good guess he provided words of encouragement.
From  every discussion I have ever had with Coach Scannell and Coach Smith of Trinity, they respect and care about the Millsaps players, almost like they go to Trinity. Their respect for Coach Page is at the very highest level.
From the few discussions I had with Coach Page, and all the complimentary and positive things my son has said about him, I have little doubt he feels the same about the players from Trinity.
When all is said and done, the game is about the players, not the fans.
There is a lot to be learned from that last minute of that tape, after the score is announced.
It  is why the Millsaps/Trinity baseball players and coaches from at least 2001 to the present have experienced what, in my view, college athletics is about. They all end up winners.

+1 Infield dad!  :)

Great fun in the post-season.

It spices up the SCAC-West next year.  :)

Thanks for the post Ralph.  Unfortunately it's the exact same spot we were last year.  It just means we'll be the first team left out in the South Region, again.
Ouch!

Lynchburg goes about round #9 and Millsaps sits.   >:(

Ralph, just a simple statement saying what the numbers were last year.  No disrespect intended.  We were 5th in the South last year come tourney time and were left out as expected.  This year will unfortunately be the same outcome.  >:(
