Thanks for the post Ralph.  Unfortunately it's the exact same spot we were last year.  It just means we'll be the first team left out in the South Region, again.
Ouch!

Lynchburg goes about round #9 and Millsaps sits.   >:(

Ralph, just a simple statement saying what the numbers were last year.  No disrespect intended.  We were 5th in the South last year come tourney time and were left out as expected.  This year will unfortunately be the same outcome.  >:(
I think that you are right...

History Major, you have got to be kidding me.  And why are they calling it a miracle versus Millsaps?  People come from behind to win baseball games all the time, it's no miracle.  I love it how Trinity fans are making a big joke about this and the football game tying together.  There is no comparison.  It will be nice when all this comes back around to the Tigers and all the gloating stops.  It's getting ridiculous with the TU fans and the comments.

Frank, I totally agree with your last post.  Had it been the other way around, I believe that Trinity fans would've taken offense to that.

People who weren't at the game should not comment on any behavior that took place between the teams. After Trinity ended it celebration the players all lined up and gave a round of applause the Millsaps players and coaches. It was a great sight because it showed just how much these two teams respect each other. They battle hard, but when all is said and done, they ahve the utmost respect for the players on the other side. They were celebrating, not gloating.

Putting the video on the internet is not a way of rubbing it in Millsaps face. Whether you were on the winning or losing side, that ending was a storybook one. Making a generalization about TU fans and "their comments" is unfair. No Trinity fan has tried to rub Millsaps noses in it. We are justhappy for our boys and proud of the determination they showed on the field. It has nothing to do with making people from Millsaps feel bad.

Yes, I was at the game and I'm not talking about how the players acted I'm talking about comments from TU alumni and parents.  There were several made that were jokingly uncalled for.  Take the players out of the equation, both teams played well and ya'll advance we don't.  You must have missed the previous comments that were relating to the baseball/football game tying together, because that's what I'm talking about.  The video was typical, with "miracle" on the title and someone saying "Glad it was captured, again."  The conversation had already been resolved earlier between a few of us on the board.

I don't think anyone has questioned the sportsmanship by any coach or player.  Also, I received a very nice email from a Trinity parent that was the height of sportsmanship.  In keeping with that high level of sportsmanship, it is just my opinon that a post with the link to the YouTube video could have been stated better than:

"I'm glad it was captured (again)"

That just had the feeling of taking a shot at Millsaps and rubbing it in, especially the "(again)".  I would have had no problem with a link that said something like:

"It was an exciting ending to the Millsaps-Trinity game for the SCAC Championship.  For those who didn't have a chance to see the ending, here's a link to the video from the bottom of the 9th."

But hey, that's just my opinion.  I've seen far worse things posted on the board and I've certainly had my fair share of posts that have unintentionally or intentionally rubbed some folks the wrong way.

The video's been removed from youtube.  What happened that was so unlikely or incredible that it's got everyone talking?  There's got to be more to it than scoring three runs in the bottom of the 9th.

As an outsider enjoying the multi-sport rivalry that has blossomed between Millsaps and Trinity, it was great fun!

FWIW, Trinity has had Millsaps number for several years now, in several sports.

The recent championship games occurring between these two schools has been fun,  i.e., football, Millsaps strong team in basketball, best since the 1990's at least, and now a great baseball series.

It just makes it more fun when the teams are this competitive!   ;)

Nope, that was pretty much it.

The Trinity-Millsaps baseball video was re-mastered and quality improved ... here's the updated correct link:

Let me also add my congratulations to the Millsaps & Trinity teams on a fine series and excellent seasons (football and baseball).

After watching the entire 10 minute video, IMHO it was no ordinary ending to a baseball game.  Exciting, unlikely, surprising, yes ... "pretty much it" hardly applies.  I think individuals, especially those who were present at the events, are entitled to choose their own titles or descriptions, regardless of team affiliations. All editorial comments are noted, but there's no need to be snippy or condescending to anyone, "guru".

People that pay for things never complain.  It's the guy you give something to that you can't please.

Trinity Tiger Football ... where champions compete on and off the field.

"Pretty much it" sums it up just right.  Teams come from behind every night in baseball just like the game in Danville last weekend, and for some reason this game is being referred to as another "miracle" because the teams happen to be the same two who... well, you know the football ending.  :-X

Ralph's post was a correct view in saying the rivalry is blossoming, but winning from 3-down in the 9th is not unordinary TigerDad.  Just watch SportsCenter tonight and you may see it. :)

Changing the title of the YouTube video to "Wild Finish Between Millsaps and Trinity at SCAC Championship" would be sufficient and less of an issue.

LargeTuna21

It's the context of the game that makes it exciting.

It was the Conference Championship game, lose and go home. Trinity couldn't muster any offense all game and was on the verge of losing 2 straight games and being sent home by the lowest seeded team in the field of 4 (justified or not). Plus, the play that it ended on, scoring from first on a single with an incredible slide at home. Add that together and it makes for a very exciting and unusual ending.

Coming back from 3 down in an MLB regular season game is nowhere near the same thing.

I'll leave the quote in as a note of who we do this site for free for. :)

Seriously, though -- when someone needs calling out, I will do it, whether it's you or someone else. I agree with the statements of others in terms of the overreaction.

The Centennial Conference ended with a four-run bottom-of-the-ninth rally as well. The nature of miracle as references Millsaps/Trinity football is the once-in-a-lifetime way it ended. I still submit that miracle is misplaced.

Great ending? Sure. Miracle? Ehh, no.

Getting on to more current baseball news, Rhodes plays a single game with Salisbury today at 1:00 Central.  Salisbury is 37-2 on the season.  The only common opponent between the two teams is LaGrange.  Salisbury beat LaGrange 9-8 at home on April 4th, Rhodes lost to LaGrange 11-6 on Feburary 9th in a game played at Millsaps.

For the record, Millsaps went 4-0 against LaGrange this season, winning a home game 18-9 and then winning by scores of 10-7, 6-3 and 9-0 at LaGrange.  LaGrange is also the only common opponent between Millsaps and Salisbury.

I don't know how a win by Rhodes would help their regional ranking and I wonder if it would help the Millsaps ranking since Millsaps won 3 of 4 from Rhodes this season.  Rhodes hasn't played since April 20th so it will be hard to predict how they will play, especially being on a long road trip, but I bet they give Salisbury a very good game.  Don't be surprised if a rested Robert Flanagan gives Salisbury their third loss of the season this afternoon.

I couldn't find any links for live stats on the game.  Here's a link to the Salisbury baseball page for those who want to check for the score later today:

Thanks, Pat.  I saw the livestats link after I posted my message but I wasn't sure if they would have baseball today.  The game starts in 30 minutes and so far they have no lineups posted--I'll check back closer to the top of the hour.
