Lucas is on fire and the entire middle of the order is getting it done with the exception of one little weakness which hopefully will start lighting up it soon, John Hale needed this win in a bad way and hopefully his confidence will show through. All in all 2 good wins for OU but your right if they play tonight it will be there toughest test of the young season.

Yes, Lucas is on fire big time. So is Llano as he also closed out both games on the hill. Sirisky didn't play last year as he did have some health issues. He is just a sophmore. The lil weaknes is coming around too. Went 2-5 last night. I would think we'd have given Emory a great game tonight. Frank is right, we needed to rest some arms for the 4 games this weekend. It's gonna be cold for Friday night's game. I look for OU to really have the best season it's had in years and be competitive in every game as the pitching and hitting seem to be clicking.  At least I sure hope so.

Live Stats for the Oglethorpe game against Ferrum are not working... But I got an update that at the Top 4 Oglethorpe is down 0-4.

frank_ezelle

Thanks for that update.  I had tried and couldn't get the live stats to work.  In other scores, Rhodes won at Piedmont today, by a score of 10-8 I believe.

Rhodes beat Piedmont 10-7.

Ferrum beat OU 12-1 this afternoon.

OU is now playing Franklin and the score is about 4-4 in the 3rd or 4th--I was halfway listening to the audio webcast.

Birmingham Southern beat Spaulding today 15-4.

Trinity at Sul Ross State should have started 20 minutes ago but there are no live stats and there's no audio.  Maybe a rain delay or rainout?  Any TU folks out there who can fill us in.

I changed the date in the link from the SCAC site and got the Sul Ross State live stats:

http://www.sulross.edu/livestats/baseball/2009/022001/xlive.htm

Trinity is up 3-0 and batting in the top of the 2nd.

UPDATE:  Trinity is up 9-0 in the top of the 8th.  Bronson has a 1-hitter over 7 innings with 3 walks and 11 K's.

UPDATE AGAIN:  Bronson came out after 7 with Trinity leading 11-0.  The relief pitching gave up 5 in the bottom of the 8th, then Trinity scored at least 2 in the top of the 9th to go up 13-5.  I went on to other things and when I came back to the live stats they were somewhat wiped out.  My guess is that TU won--I'd hate to think they gave up 9 or more in the bottom of the 9th.

OU beat Franklin 19 to 12. OU had 23 hits lead by S. archer, 5 2b and 1 single. Hoban went 5 scorelsess innings in relief of Sirisky who left the game with an injury. The Ferrum game was just one of those games for OU, no hitting and the pitching just didn't have it going. Lagrange beat NC Wesleyn 17-3 apparently NCW is not quite what they have been in recent years. Oh well on to tomorrow good luck to all the SCAC teams this weekend.

Hendrix took game 1 of the double-header vs. Austin 11-10.

frank_ezelle

Someone help me out here.  Is it 3 teams from each side that will make the SCAC Tournament or 4?  The Millsaps announcer has said 4 teams on a couple of occasions and I thought it was just 3.

On today's activity, the Hendrix 11-10 win over Austin is just another example of how the SCAC West is going to be a battle this year.  There was a time when you felt like you were losing ground if you didn't sweep Hendrix--that time seems to be over.

Scores today:

Rhodes over Greensboro on a neutral field 9-3
DePauw splits at Maryville (Tenn), winning the first 2-1 and losing 11-8
Transylvania sucked the blood out of Centre by a 18-3 score and then by 5-2
Sewanee fell at LaGrange 6-5
Birmingham Southern beat Spalding 14-2 and 13-0
Hendrix won at Austin 11-10
Trinity won at Sul Ross St 18-9
Millsaps won the first game 13-6 at Southwestern, and is leading 9-7 with SW batting in the bottom of the 7th
Oglethorpe fell to York 12-7

AC takes the second game against Hendrix 16-5.  Hendrix committed seven errors, walked 12 and hit three batters, and their pitchers just really struggled all game.  Pretty much everything that went wrong for Hendrix (or right for AC, take your pick) that could have happened, happened.

First game was interesting...AC had a chance at the end, but Schleizer hit one down the line with two runners on that the Hendrix third baseman was just able to get to for the final out.  For a second I thought it was going to sneak past him and get down the line to score at least the tying run.

We'll see what happens tomorrow.  I'm hoping Chermak bring his best stuff for AC.  That kid can be scary good when he's on his game.

Millsaps wins the second game 11-7 so they will leave Georgetown with a series win, hopefully a sweep.  Drew Maddox pitched several innings to end both games--got the win in the second game and maybe a save in the first.  Tony Malaschak had 4 rbi's and Hunter Owen and Will Hawkins each had 2 in the second game.

Rhodes defeats Emory 6-1 to improve to 8-2 on the year. Andy Holt picks up the win to move to 3-0. Mason Mosby and Brent Lindsey combined for 5 hits and 5 RBI's. Rhodes finish up their weekend with a game against NC Wesleyan. Take note, game was originally scheduled for a 4:00 start but it has since been moved up to 2:45.
Also, Emory provided a webcast of the game and must say it was very well done. I know Millsaps uses this as well. Wish more programs/institutions would implement the use of this technology!

It is always nice to pick up a win against Emory.  Emory knows how to build a schedule, so they usually have really good "numbers" as an opponent.  Emory has usually played some key teams that look good as common opponents when the committee is looking at that stuff!

Millsaps is currently down 3-0 at Southwestern with the Pirates batting in the bottom of the 6th.  Millsaps started freshman Ryan Zemke and he has done well, just not as well as Chris Churchwell.  Millsaps really hasn't generated much of a threat and it's not like Southwestern is hitting the ball all over the park.

Zemke got the first batter in the bottom of the 6th, then gave up a single and with his pitch count up to about 90, Millsaps has brought in Boomer Hudson.  This game just goes to show the importance of keeping an at-large bid alive (as Rhodes has been doing this week).  If you run into a pitcher who is "on" in the SCAC Tournament then any team can send any other team to the losers bracket, and from there you are fighting an uphill battle.

Hudson just had a line drive hit back at him and he threw to first to double off the runner.  Millsaps has 3 innings to scratch out a win.

Millsaps comes back to win 8-3.  It's nice to see such good pitching from new pitchers--Ryan Zemke is a freshman and I believe Boomer Hudson pitched 2 innings in 2007 and had a medical redshirt last year.  This was Hudson's 3 win of the season which ties him with Drew Maddox for most wins--it's a reflection of both good long relief work out of the bullpen and the ability Millsaps has shown to come from behind in the late innings.

It certainly helps that Hunter Owen and Will Hawkins are hitting like All-Americans, both over .400 with Owen having an OB% in the .650 to .700 range which helps explain the 25 rbi's in 12 games for Hawkins, but Millsaps is winning with a complete team effort.  Today that had 7 hits from their 3 catchers in the lineup--Tyler Berry caught and had 3, Russ Boyd had 3 as the dh, and Hayes Brian had one while playing CF/LF (I doubt that Hayes will see much action behind the plate this season).

At 11-1, I won't be surprised if Millsaps gets a ranking this week, something that has its pros and cons.  If Rhodes can hang on and beat NC Wesleyan (Rhodes is up 9-6 and batting in the bottom of the 7th), then they certainly are deserving of consideration.  They would go to 9-2 with the only losses being the 14-13 loss at Millsaps and the 5-4 loss at Huntingdon.

Next weekend Millsaps travels up to Memphis for 3 game:  Emory on Friday, LaGrange on Saturday, and Rhodes on Sunday.  That should be a good weekend of baseball.
