Ralph--I had to dig around to find a link to the poll.  Here it is for those who want to add it to their favorites:

Ralph,
Re: your research/comments on the Tiger's ranking; could their "RA of 88" in their "27 games" have something to do with this ranking?

Is it "good pitching'' that trumps "good hitting" or the reverse; I can't remember exactly how that old saying goes?

Seriously?     :-\

Looks like the Majors could not get on track last night.  Had a chance in the 8th, but flied out with bases loaded to end the inning.  Here is a link to the story on Belhaven's website, nothing yet on Millsaps' or in the local paper.

ETG, good morning!
I have had a chance to research the nature of that baseball poll in the last 36 hours.

It seems that it is the results of 7 ballots, and does not imply the use of any specific criteria.

It is not the official NCAA Regional Ranking, the results of which should come out in the first rankings on 20April06.

That being said, then I can see why Trinity gets its first nod in the "beauty" contest.  The West Region Independents, CSU-East Bay and Chapman, deserve to be there, as does the #1 in the NWC George Fox, the SCIAC's Redlands and TLU.  Trinity is a good choice for the 6th.

It is good that we see TU vs. McM and HSU this spring.  The runs allowed is a nice number, but I think that TU has not played as challenging a West Region schedule.  Time will tell... :)

Tuesday's McMurry at Southwestern game was postponed by rain.

My hiatus from the board has come to an end.

Big two game series between Trinity and Millsaps in Jackson this weekend.

Thoughts?

McMurry 12, at Southwestern 2.

McMurry takes the season series 2-0.

The TU-Millsaps series this weekend will 'set the table' for the SCAC tourney... indeed TU's scheduling shuffles have kept them home....  now on their first roadtrip in awhile,,, they'll have to be ready to rumble!

Report from Jackson,,, Millsaps won opener 12-7 in the sixth...seems TU gave up lots of walks and hit batters,,,  Hadley had a 3 run homer in the 1st for Millsaps and Vera countered with two of his own...  Bignall took the loss, Jon Allen pitched from the fifth and shut down Millsaps...  Trinity had 13 hits accounting for it's seven runs and Millsaps had 11 hits...

Millsaps did most of their offensive damage with an 8-run third.  It seems like they had 4 or 5 doubles in the inning along with a couple of intentional walks, etc.  That put the lead at 10-1 with all of those runs coming off of Drew Bignall.  Millsaps picked up single runs in the 4th and 5th and Trinity whittled away at the score by bits and pieces but they never really threatened to put together the really big inning they needed late in the game.

Todd Kindler got the win to push his record to 5-1.  Drew Maddox got the save with several good innings that were marred only by a 2-run homer by Vera.  The two teams play a single game tomorrow at 1.  I'm not sure if John Fox will start that game or not.  He has a sore ankle which I'm guessing he would pitch on if this was the SCAC Tournament but they might want to give it more rest since Millsaps is now guaranteed to win the head-to-head with Trinity in the regular season.

(El Tea Gray---re:Starting Pitchers/Big Innings)

Trinity giving up a seven-run inning vs. Concordia-Austin (there) and now an eight-run inning vs. Millsaps (there); can this be stopped?  Starting pitcher selection on "the road" is not necessarily the same as the regular rotation for home games.

Tigers, let's do something about this!     :-[

If the records on the SCAC baseball homepage are accurate, and if my math is correct:

A Millsaps win tomorrow vs. Trinity or a Southwestern loss to Rhodes tomorrow will clinch a berth in the SCAC baseball tournament for the Majors.

HeadingForHome

There has been alot of talk about the west side of the SCAC
Does anyone know much of what is going on in the east?

I've noticed on the SCAC website that Depauw and Centre split  2 - 2
that Sewanee won 3 against Oglethorpe
Rose-Hulman won the first 2 games today against Centre
Oglethorpe leads the series against Depauw 2 - 1 Even with a 19 - 5 drubbing Depauw over Oglethorpe

I am wondering if anyone has news or anything on any of the East Games?
