Final  TU 8 MC 4.... After trailing 4-2 in the middle of 4 on a Millsaps Luke Morrow grand slam off Huggins, TU battled back with two 2-run homers by Cavan and Holman to take an 8-4 lead into the eigth.  Adam Frey closed out the win for TU.

Again, if my math is correct.......

With the Southwestern loss to Rhodes this afternoon, Millsaps has clinched a berth in the SCAC baseball tournament.  Even if Millsaps were to lose out and Southwestern were to win out thus causing Millsaps and Southwestern to have identical conference records, Millsaps would advance to the tournament because they took the season series from Southwestern.

Maybe this is a post for the polls board, but what does Millsaps have to do to receive a higher ranking on the poll?  Looks like its games against Emory could really help make a point.

Ralph Turner

As I posted on the Polls board, I really don't place much credence in the ABCA Poll.

Only 8 voters,  no distinction in D3 vs all games, no focus on in-region which is the real issue for D3.

I encourage any poster to read the Handbook (on the Uselful links board), work out the in-region games (SCAC plus South, Mid-east or West Region opponents and any 200-mile opponents) and post them here.

Regarding in-region games... what about games played versus schools less than 200 miles aways, but the games were played down south on a road trip... do those count as in-region games? Just a thought.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

The rules on in-region are as follows (as I understand them):

1)  All Conference games are in-region.
2)  West Region opponents are in the Handbook.  They are in-region. (They did leave out UT-Tyler which is 3rd-year provisional and their games count as in-region).  Any game amongst in-region opponents counts regardless of the venue of the game.  CSU-EB vs. Chapman in Florida counts.)
3)  Practically speaking, there are no 200-mile radius contests imaginable.  (Only Miss College and Millsaps, that I can think of!)

Yes, they count. If you're Carthage, for example, and you play UW-Whitewater, it would be a regional game if you played in Kenosha, Whitewater, Duluth, Los Angeles, Cocoa Beach, etc.

Schreiner beats Trinity 4-3!  Good win for the Mountaineers!

That also really helps the ASC teams when it comes to selections.

Trinity hosts McMurry tomorrow.

Tom Brady

Wow, nice job Trinity.  Just when you get ranked pretty high you go and lose to a team that was 5-21 :o
Not the best way to live up to your ranking...

I remember one year Trinity beat Notre Dame (yes, TU was D3 at the time).  Baseball's a funny game.

Here is the link to the Millsaps game from last night.  The Majors pulled out a nice win against Belhaven last night, have not tallied it up, but this may lock up the Maloney Series for Millsaps.

It is the annual series played between Millsaps, Mississippi College and Belhaven.

That did clinch the trophy for the Majors, leaving them with a 4-1 record with one game to play and Belhaven and MC both have 3 losses.  I have some good photos of the team receiving the trophy and posing with the trophy but I don't have them posted.  I'll try to get them on the website before this weekend.  (actually, I do have one photo posted but I'll get the whole bunch posted soon)

The photos from the Trinity games are now on the Millsaps photo site:

What a difference a day makes, eh Ralph???  After getting caught with only a partial roster at Schreiner yesterday (because of the early start,,,  some of the starters couldn't get out of classses and two pitchers started in the outfield) .... Don't you love DIII???... well the pitchers filled the field spots and when they came out in favor of the position players, they couldn't be used as pitchers... well you get the picture!

Anyway McM came to SAT and got spanked 12-0... Adam Frey went six strong innings and only gave up 4 hits... striking out 8.
