Going to be interesting to see how Trinity's pitching unfolds tomorrow ... nearly everyone who didn't pitch yesterday saw some time on the mound, including presumptive Sunday starter Ben Klimesh, who threw maybe 12 pitches and gave up two hits to the three batters he faced.

Southwestern's Matt Stuart had appeared in three games earlier this season, throwing a total of 11 innings.  He did a fine job today, holding the top half of the Trinity order to a single hit while striking out six and walking four.  Trinity pitching issued what must be a season-high 9 walks.  Four of the Pirates' six runs came with two outs.

It's cold and windy in Jackson, but the rain seems to be gone and the overcast sky is suppose to turn sunny later in the day.  Austin and Millsaps are scheduled to play a DH starting at 11 this morning.  My guess is that the games will be webcast, but at this point it is probably safe to say that nothing is a certainty.

Millsaps wins first game 2-1 vs Austin.  Both pitchers went the complete 7-inning game with Aaron Williams taking the win.  I don't have a box score, but I believe Austin had 7 hits and Millsaps 4 in a game that featured very few hard hit balls.  Will Hawkins had 2 of the Millsaps hits and scored both runs.

The webcasters were talking about Will during the game.  They said several players told them that Will would have 7 or 8 HRs already if he was using last year's bats (he has 2 so far in 2011).  I'm trying to think of a rule change in any sport that has had such an immediate impact and can't come up with anything.

Second game should start around 1:30.

Oglethorpe and Sewanee had their entire series rained out this weekend which was supposed to be held at Sewanee. Not sure if there is a makeup planned. But, I think this is twice now in three years OU has lost a complete series due to weather.

I wonder how many games have been lost at Sewanee over the years. I remember the SCAC title game between Millsaps/Trinity was cancelled a few years back also. Maybe time to think about playing games off campus and not on the mountain??

Anyway, this is probably a tough break for OU if they can't make these up. I haven't posted much about them this year, yet...but I think they are a team a bit snake bitten early this year. They have not put everything together but They have played some good baseball against some good teams but only few wins to show for it.

A different story in Georgetown today as Trinity gets back on track with 13 hits in a 10-5 win.   It was a pitcher's duel early with SU's (and SCAC POTW) Chris Churchwell having the early edge thanks to a Cray Betts solo shot to left in the second and another run in the third.  Trinity got one back in the six, but the seventh inning was the key.  Churchwell was let down by Pirate fielding, as two consecutive errors led to two unearned Tiger runs, and he was pulled after the next batter, Kyle Felix, plated a third run with a base hit.   Nick Pappas and Chris Muscarello each knocked a run to give Trinity a 6-2 lead.   The Tigers would add two more runs in each of the eighth and ninth innings.   SU scored three times in the bottom of the ninth against Matthew Tyndall, but it was too little, too late.

Ben Klimesh (6-0) earned the win with seven innings of five-hit ball (and two runs) before giving way to Tyndall in the eighth.   Churchwell (2-1) picked up the loss despite only allowing two earned runs in his six innings.

Millsaps gets the DH sweep with a 9-3 win in the second game.  Jason Riggins got the start and the win with Will Elmore pitching shutout ball over the last 2 innings of the games.  The scoreboard showed Millsaps with 11 hits and no errors, Austin with 7 hits and 2 errors.

My guess is that the series in Austin will now be switched to a 3-game series in order to make up the game that was rained out this weekend.

Story and box scores are now up for the Millsaps games.  Will Hawkins went 4 for 7 on the day with 3 runs scored, 2 rbi, and 6 stolen bases.  Aaron Williams and Jason Riggins gave Millsaps two outstanding performances on the mound:

Hendrix has a chance this week to strike a blow for the SCAC against top-ten, undefeated Texas-Tyler.  They'll play single games in Conway tonight at 6PM Central (Monday) and tomorrow at 5.  Live stats (and pricey video):  http://livestats.prestosports.com/hendrix/

Actually, I also thought the video was pricy when Millsaps went to Southwestern to play, but the $9.99 for one month isn't bad because it includes all the teams that use CTVT for their webcasts.  For example, this week you can watch baseball games at Hendrix, Centre, Rhodes and Southwestern.  Austin College also was using this service for basketball so maybe they are webcasting their baseball as well.

One problem is that some schools provide video with no audio except for what you might pickup from the PA announcer or people talking in the press box.  Southwestern has no announcer, and I think that's the case with Centre as well.  Don't know if they use announcers at Rhodes or Hendrix.

Word out of Petrel camp is they will play Sewanee in a DH on Tuesday March 22nd at Oglethorpe starting at 5pm. Two things 1) The games are now in Atlanta, which assuming is becasue of the lights 2) They will be mid-week before both teams play SCAC games 4 days later....

The Petrels will host Hampden-Sydney tomorrow at Coolray Field, home of the AAA Braves. The field is the exact dimensions as Turner field, which is a big park for MLB standards, let alone college. Should be a good experience for the teams.

Hendrix up early on UT-T, 4-2 after three.

Frank - just an FYI, for right now Austin College is only live streaming football and basketball. Baseball might get added later on down the road, but for now it's just live stats.

Trinity improves to 16-2 with an easy 12-4 win over DeSales University (3-2).  The Tigers scored in each of the first six innings.  Ryan Lucero struck out seven, allowed four hits and no earned runs in 5 2/3rds to secure his fourth win.    Jonathan Hall was 2-2 with a triple and also drew two walks.  The teams play another game tomorrow.
