I have not seen the answer to this question.

Colorado College does not play baseball.  Austin College gives a 6-4 West to East mismatch in the sizes of the divisions.  Will someone be reassigned to the East Division?

Another question--Has UDallas sought an affilate relationship in Baseball?

Ron Boerger

Ralph,  I don't have a canonical answer but it's probable that Rhodes gets moved into the East to keep the brackets balanced.  They are closer to the teams in the East than the teams in the West, anyway.

Re UDallas, the SCAC hasn't been high on affiliate members in the past and it would seem unlikely.

What's the deal with Sewanee?  The failure by Millsaps to sweep Rhodes combined with Sewanee clinching the final spot in the East by winning their final game has created a Trinity-Sewanee matchup in the first round.  On paper it looks like as big a mismatch as something like Trinity playing host Rhodes in the SCAC basketball tournament.

Sewanee is 16-23.  They were 15-14 on April 9th and 6-2 in the SCAC and then they lost 9 straight which included 7 SCAC games.  Needing a win in their final game, they beat DePauw for the first time in 12 tries.  When they were 15-14 they had 5 losses to top 30 teams including a 5-4 and 4-0 loss to Emory and they also had a win over #1 ranked Wooster.

I had thought last week that the #1W team might be able to get away with saving a key starter in their first game.  I'm not sure if I would take that chance with Sewanee playing on their home field.

While I know that Millsaps wanted to win the West and they would like to be the number 1 seed, I'm not sure that Trinity has as easier road as the top seed.  Sewanee and DePauw are similar in their records so maybe Sewanee is the tougher draw since they are playing at home.  IF Trinity and Millsaps both win, then I think Trinity will get #1E RHIT while Millsaps will have a rematch with Rhodes.  That's strickly a guess made because of the impressive pitching of Robert Flanagan of Rhodes--I'm sure the RHIT fans would dispute my prediction.

It should be interesting and I'm sorry I can't get up to Sewanee to see the games.

The DePauw-Millsaps ballgame will be broadcast live by the DePauw radio station.  The game time is 10 CDT and this link should get you to the info you need to listen to the game:

After 3 it is 1-0 Millsaps over DePauw.  Trinity and Sewanee are at 1-1 but I don't know the inning.

Frank... are these tournament games? Thanks for the updates. Keep them coming.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

Middle of 6th with Millsaps coming to bat, Millsaps leads DePauw 7-1.  Trinity leads Sewanee 5-1 in a game that started at the same time but in another location.

These are both 1st round games in the SCAC Tournament.  The other 1st round game is Rhodes vs. Rose-Hulman at 2pm.  Here's a link to the SCAC Spring Tournament site:

I take it you are listening to the DPU webcast, since there aren't any partials posted on the SCAC Festival site (nor would I expect there to be).  Thanks, Frank.

Millsaps over DePauw 7-1.  Trinity over Sewanee 7-3.

Millsaps will play the winner of the Rhodes--RHIT game.  Trinity will play the loser of that game.

Trinity and Sewanee will play tomorrow at 10.

For Millsaps John Fox went 8 strong innings for the win.  I know Millsaps had 12 hits after 5 innings but I wasn't listening close enough to give details on the hitting.

It's nice when two of the schools have radio stations that cover their sporting events.  RHIT will webcast their ballgame vs. Rhodes the afternoon at 2pm.  This link will get you to the RHIT baseball site and you can listen live or get live stats on the game:

I have a feeling that this is going to be a good matchup.

With RHIT going to bat in the bottom of the 5th, Rhodes is up 3-1.

An interesting note is that the RHIT coach in the pregame interview really complained about the poor condition of the field.  It sounded like he didn't feel like the facility was up to par for hosting an event of this caliber.

Also the announcers talked about rain in the forecast for the weekend.  With John Fox throwing over 100 pitches today for Millsaps, I doubt that he would be available for much work unless the tournament got stretched to Monday due to rain.  With the depth of Trinity's starting pitching, I'm sure they don't want an extra day of play.

RHIT has scored to make it 3-2 and they are threatening to added more with 2 outs and 2 runners on.

Going into RHIT's bat in the bottom of the 8th it is 3-3.  Rhodes got their runs early on a 3-run homer.  RHIT has chipped away in the last couple of innings.  Rhodes hasn't done much at the plate since that early homerun.

Now going into the top of the 9th tied at 3-3.  Each team has 3 runs, 7 hits and 1 error.

Rhodes got another 3-run homer in the top of the 9th, Flanagan walked two RHIT batters to start the bottom of the 9th, and the Rhodes reliever came in and struck out the side.  Rhodes wins 6-3.

I thought this would be a great game with both teams getting excellent starting pitching.  It puts Trinity against RHIT tomorrow and Millsaps against Rhodes.  My guess is that both of those will be fairly close games.

Frank, this is kinda fitting that RHIT won't have to worry about those tough #3 seeded SCAC-West Region teams next year. ;)

After the first round of the tourney, SCAC-West 3, SCAC-East 0!
