WHY?  Less than 30 will ever get on the other side of the white lines

They have a JV team this season, or so I've heard.

108 Stitches

They do Ron.

They have a large group of Seniors and Juniors who will be graduating over the next two years so they are preparing for these departures now. I have heard they have a couple of freshmen pitchers and position players who will contribute this year and they plan on developing the rest either on the JV team and in summer leagues so they can replace these departures with seasoned players. I think they only brought in 5 last year (I think 3 are still on the roster) and this years recruiting class will likely be small also- so overall it will balance out. Playing time is going to be tough this year but it should make the team very competitive, and deep should they get injuries.

Good start to the season in CA ... Trinity over Chapman 7-1 with Ryan Lucero taking a no-hitter into the eighth.

Chapman's only run was unearned, coming after two consecutive one-out errors in the eighth.  That was about the only negative on the day; Trinity had four errors in all.  Christian Muscarello hit the first home run of the 2013 season, a two-run dinger in the ninth.    Second game of the series is today at 6pm PST.  Live stats were not working yesterday, will hope for better today.

They are supposed to have the webcast going tonight, but not really sure. The Chapman website indicated that it would be available tonight.

Trinity dominated this game and looks very formidable, big strong, fast, with a balanced lineup of power/speed/LH/RH hitters. Freshmen also contributed on offense and pitching. How far TU goes will likely depend on how the number 2-4 starting pitchers look this year, as well as their pen, but they have two more Sr starters going the next two games. Only negative were the errors.

Chapman is talented but very young and you could see it in their approach at the plate. Granted Lucero had a lot to do with it, but he is not close to being at his prime yet, and you could see that the freshmen had many poor at bats in terms of their approach. I am sure the Chapman coach will use this series to motivate his team and they will only get better. They should be very good next year, but this year will depend on how fast they learn and develop. Their physical development will just take time and you can see the size/power differences between a older vs younger team, that said if they just play within their capabilities they will develop into a competitive team IMO.

Chapman pitcher Hanks was a little shell shocked in the first inning, but settled down after this and he got stronger as the game went on and did a good job of shutting down a very powerful TU offense. He held them in check in innings 2-5 and got out of the 6th with only one run with the help of the Chapman CF's great throw to the plate to tag out a TU runner. He should be a solid starter for them this year.

It will be interesting to see how the next two Chapman pitchers do, as the TU team will punish anyone who leaves balls over the middle of the plate. Also of interest will be how sharp the next two TU starters look.

I asked about the stream feed last night and was told that tonight's game will be streamed with audio.

Trinity hit and pitched well. Trinity pitchers only gave up 1 run and only 2 hits and no hits thru 7 innings.

Chapman did not hit or pitch well last night . Chapman is a very young team and will get better with each game with only 1 senior on the roster. A lot of unknowns with Chapman's pitching at this time but expect them to get much better as the season progresses.

Trinity did had have 4 errors but did turn 2 double plays.

Chapman played error free baseball and had some very good defensive plays. Chapman outfielders threw out runners runs at home and third for Chapman and the Chapman's catcher threw out a Trinity runner stealing and made a good tag at the plate. Also some nice defensive plays in the infield and outfield for Chapman.  Chapman also stole 3 bases. Chapman looks like they are much stronger defensively that last year. They new position players at 3rd, SS, 2B, C and RF this year.

Trinity gets another strong pitching performance from a starter - Tanner Barron went eight innings, striking out 13 and giving up only four hits and two walks in a 7-1 win over Chapman.  Trinity put up runs in the top of the first four innings, keyed by Will Donnan's two run homer with two out in the top of the second - in fact, of their seven runs on the evening, six scored with two outs.  Jonathan Hall added a solo shot in the top of the sixth to close out the Tiger scoring.

The final game in the series will be tomorrow today at noon Pacific.

This TU team is what I expected it to be, a BEAST!. They have speed and power, they are as big and strong as many D1 teams and I would not want to pitch to that line up....LOL on that visual....You may keep that line up down for a few innings, but they will make a pitcher pay for mistakes. Hall hit a ball to CF that still has not come down yet...at a field that they say no one hits it out to CF.

They were solid defensively making some great plays, Francke is an absolute vacuum cleaner over at third. Fink goes today, the third Sr starter in a pitching squad that has 2-3 more solid starters waiting in the wings, plus a Sr closer that shortens up the game by 1-2 innings.

Granted Chapman is a young team, but this TU team will roll over you if you don't come prepared to do battle.

So glad to see Hall back in there. I was at the game last year when he injured his shoulder. Wishing the best for TU, Nick, & Hall!

A very different story today as Chapman punishes the Tigers 11-1.   None of the TU pitchers were effective (starter Josh Fink only lasted into the second), giving up 14 hits, the fielders committed three more errors, and the only run Trinity scored was unearned.   Braden Riddle went seven innings for Chapman, allowing six hits and striking out eight.

Good to get the first two wins but I'm sure the guys didn't want to end the trip on that note.   They've got ten days until their next game, a single at home versus Schreiner.

One area Trinity, TX needs to improve is defense. 7 errors  over 3 games. Also losing 11-1 to a very young Chapman team with no returning pitching may not make it a top 25 team. Chapman's freshman pitcher only game up 1 run over 7 innings. I fully expected Trinity to sweep Chapman.

Agree with the errors, TU can not win playing the way they did today, very very sloppy.  Fink went out with an injury in the second and TU worked through many of their freshmen pitchers to get a look at them in game situations and Chapman did a good job of capitalizing on TU's sloppy play behind them, plus their inexperience. A couple of the top TU prospects had some really good stuff IMO and I think learned their first lesson of pitching in college - you can't throw fastballs by good college hitters and need to change speeds while throwing strikes. They also gave up some hits when they were way ahead in the count and needed to a better job of locating pitches, again part of the development process.

Riddle did a nice job of keeping the TU batters off balance and Chapman has likely found one piece of their pitching puzzle. Tip your hit to him, nice job.

TU did play a lot of freshmen both in the field and on the mound which Scannell does early in the season, some did well and some did not, but that is part of the maturing and development process, he is a master at developing talent so you can't argue with success.

TU did not even bring a number of their more experienced players on the trip as well as played some freshmen over some older players likely to see what they had, IMO a couple of plays at home would likely would have resulted in outs with different arms in the OF. Some of the AB's for TU, both for the freshmen and upper classmen were very poor and they got away from what they were doing earlier in the series. They will go back and work on it which will make them an even better team.

I agree with Crash TU should have swept Chapman, they should not feel good about taking  2 of 3. They are a still a top 5 team IMO, but just shows they have some work to do.  I also stick with my assertion that Chapman will be very dangerous later in the season. They are young and will make mistakes that young teams make, their AB's will get better and they will figure out their pitching. They are pretty solid defensively and if they get their pitching in order they will be in any game they play.
