Are you kidding? That early spring weather in central Texas. Let's play ball ;D

This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

Alrighty group, time to predict the SCAC tournament.

First, predict the the winners of (Trinity vs. Southwestern) and (TLU vs. Centenary).

Then, predict the winner of the winner's bracket game.

Finally, predict the championship matchup, and the winner.

I am going go to go with:

Day 1 winners: Trinity & Centenary
Winners Bracket champ: Trinity
Finals: Trinity over TLU

Ron Boerger

Trinity is up 3-1 on Southwestern after five.    Trent Rape got the start for the Tigers and has given up five hits.   He's also, surprisingly, batting eighth.     Pirates starter Jason Stading has only given up three hits but was hurt early by an error and a wild pitch which contributed to two of Trinity's runs.

Both teams are playing rusty with three errors from Trinity and two by Southwestern.

Trinity appears to not be pitching, hitting or playing anywhere near where they need to be.
Then, with the tying and going ahead runners at 2B and 3B and no outs, Kevin Flores enters in relief and strikes out the side. TU up 3-2 in the bottom of 8, but this one is not over.

Ron Boerger

Trinity can be thankful the dude representing the tying run tried to stretch a two-out single into a double and got thrown out by Hirschberg.   Four errors (including a throwing error on what could have been the game-ending DP), three wild pitches, and not much offense - will need better play the rest of the way.    You're not going to get four runs on six hits very often.

Quick update: Cent/LTU locked at 2-2 bottom 6.

I caught the last 3 innings of the TU/SW game. Just one of those games that you want to thank your stars that you win and move on. Trinity is not playing championship baseball, poor hitting, errors and poor bullpen management all add up to a game close game. SW'rn came ready to play and Trinity did not. Rape pitched a nice game but they left him in too long IMO.

I like what is happening with SCAC baseball, TLU is solid and  with SW, and Cent are both young teams and are going to be very very competitive in the next couple of years. Heck if Trinity does not get their act together they could lose this tournament.

Trinity tried to give away a 7 0 lead in the 8th inning and holds off to win 8 7 bottom 9 after pen squandered lead Don't understand what trinity does with their arms.  They pull Speer after leadoff error in the 8th inning.  He was lights out and dominated today.    I believe big righty is 17-1 last 2 years with era sub 2.00.  Trinity pen bad today

Trinity most definitely tried to snag defeat from the jaws of victory. They were looking like they were rounding into a championship team with some timely hitting and solid pitching and defense though 7 and then the wheels came off. Umpires did not help either, but what a fiasco the last two innings were. Poor bullpen performance and bullpen management, plus errors just about did them in. They can not make these kinds of errors in the Regional against Regional quality teams,  the team has the talent but time will tell if they can get all pieces working for the Regional. Speer looked about as good as I have seen him, really solid.

Looks like Centenary will play TLU tonight for the championship game vs Trinity tomorrow. (up 15-2 bottom 7)

As an outsider just viewing from the periphery, I'm not sure what I'm missing regarding all the criticism of the Trinity coaching staff's bullpen management.  Looking at the stats, in the last two games, the pitchers they've called out of the pen look like the four guys with the most relief innings over the course of the season (20, 21, 13, and 32 IP) and these guys have really solid BAA, a pretty key stat for a reliever, of .159, .218, .133 and .183.  Plus one guy had an ERA of 0.00 over 13 innings.  The 54 walks over 85 IP between these guys is high, but it seems like this group is super solid, and the coach is just going with his horses?

Some guys just had a bad day, it happens, but overall it seems like the bully is not a problem.

It looks to me like errors in the field are the problem, but just get to the regional, clean that up, and anything can happen.

As expected TLU comes back through the looser bracket to meet Trinity for the championship game this afternoon at 12:00.

Should be a good game, TLU can swing it, not sure who will be on the bump for either team, but TLU only played one more game so should be in decent shape pitching wise.

Today we saw Tiger baseball.  Griffith was lights out replacing Gray.  Big bats and good defense will take them far     Speer Rape Walker Gray Griffith Turner Flores are monsters on the hill.  Not a senior in that group.   Scary
