Unless something very odd happens it will be Southwestern facing TLU in tomorrow's elimination game at noon.   Going to be some tired Pirates who head to the top of the ninth leading 15-7.

Is there a youtube of the triple play?

It might be on the TLU website under recordings.

Trinity beat TLU 5-2 with Walker going the distance for Trinity. Complete different game from yesterday from Trinity.

Trinity went up 1 in the 4th by a HR by Jewett. TLU came back with two in the bottom of the frame, and Trinity scored 4 in the top of the 5th and that was it for scoring. TLU had chances and just could not get runs across. Both teams left 10 runners on base.

TLU plays winner of SW/Cent game today tomorrow and Trinity goes to champion ship game tomorrow. Shhhh I hear Oxy and CLU fans cheering but please keep it down, people may be napping. Personally I really would like to see TLU in the Regional as they deserve it.

The Pirates disagree.

JSG - I am thinking that the Pirates did just that and the Pirates just blew TLU's chance for a Regional and run rulled them 16 - 2!

It will be Trinity vs SWern this afternoon for the first game of the SCAC Championship. If Trinity wins they take the SCAC title and if SW wins they play again tomorrow. SW is getting hot at the right time and W/L records mean nothing at this point in time. If Trinity does not pitch well it could be a long afternoon for them.

#3484
Ryan Gray for Trinity (6-3, 53.1 IP, 11 G/8 GS, 3.38 ERA, 50K, 25 BB, .255 OBA)
Joe McCormick for SW (1-1, 29.1 IP, 15 G/1 GS, 5.83 2.15 ERA, 19 K, 14 BB, .250 OBA)

Trinity up 1-0, at bat in bottom half of third.

4-0 going to the fourth after a Butler SAC and a HR by Jewett scoring two.

Same score after fourive.

Trinity just won the SCAC 8 - 3 over SW. Ryan Gray went 7 and gave up only 1 hit in the 7th for a HR, but other than a couple of walks ahead of the HR behind it pitched a great game.

That leaves open some more slots for at large bids for others, including TLU, which might be dicey given they did not make it to the championship game.

It will be interesting to see how the SCIAC and the ASC finish the season, but I've venture that TLU's 3 recent losses to a sub .500 Southwestern team and their two late February losses to the University of Dallas will be tough to overcome. That said, they has a really great conference season and finished the year 3-4 against a very, very good Trinity team. Not to mention a valuable win against Birmingham Southern. I don't think they will leap frog Whitworth, but if someone other than Oxy or Cal Lutheran wins the SCIAC tournament, they might have an outside shot.

It's good to see Southwestern getting some of their mojo back.   Back in the day they and Trinity had some epic battles in the SCAC championships, and the Pirates have a 4-3 lead overall there.    You knew with RJ Thomas coming over from Hendrix that the program would turn around before too long.   Will Cates will be a big loss, but other than he and Colton Shea just about all of their position players come back.   The only losses on the mound will be yesterday's spot starter, Joe McCormack, perhaps their best reliever, and two other relief guys, Matt Litz and Joseph Koch - so that is a hole they'll need to address.  With the momentum they built late in the year it will be an interesting team to watch next year.

I agree with JSG and Ron, SW will continue to get better and the school has an excellent academic reputation and the location is perfect for students who want a smaller school/college town experience as well as a quality baseball program. I think TLU only loses a few Sr's also. The SCAC landscape will be much more level next year (not that having 3 nationally ranked teams out of 7 is too shabby) as Trinity loses their whole starting lineup and several very good pitchers,  I think they have 17 seniors graduating, which is unprecedented. They have a lot of talent in the wings, but you don't replace the whole lineup and compete at the level they have been the past two years out of the gate.

Congrats to Trinity, who should be the number 1 seed in the West and having Ryan Gray back in form really helps solidify their pitching and they will need him for any serious run in the West Regional.

A shout out to all of the graduating Sr's in the SCAC, and in particular the 17 graduating Sr's from Trinity who get to walk with their classmates for the first time in many years as they have always been at Regionals when graduation was happening at Trinity. Congrats guys and go get um at the Regionals!
