Holy cow!

This would be Trinity giving up 9 runs to Babson in the top of the 7th to trail 14-5, then scoring ten runs themselves in the bottom of the 8th, capped off by a Cristian Holloway grand slam in a 15-14 win.

And today, TU up 16-0 in the 6th.  Let's hope this offensive display is lasting!

A day after dropping a 21-2 decision to UW-Whitewater in the opening game of a DH, Trinity's Jackson Teer threw a four-hit, 9-1 complete-game decision in which he had a SCAC-record 20 strikeouts.  That's 34 Ks and 1 earned run in 16 IP so far this season.

The 20 Ks tie the school record, set back in scholarship days by Jimmy Wingate in 1965.  The school's record during the D3 era (as well as the former SCAC record) was 18 by Mike Frost in 2004.

Trinity reliever Jonathan Newman ran his record to 5-0 (with one save) yesterday, closing out a 5-4 win over UMHB with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief allowing one hit, one walk, and striking out two.  He lowered his ERA on the season to 0.29 in 31 IP in 14 games, quite the improvement over last season where he posted an ERA of nearly six in ten appearances.

Trinity, which improved to 28-9, needs four more wins this season for HC Tim Scannell to record his 800th win in his 26th season at the helm.

And according to a Xitter post listing D3->D1 baseball transfers, Trinity will lose its other quality starter, Joseph Chavana, to Xavier as a grad transfer.  This was announced by Xavier way back in April but I missed it.

Ugh.

The latest variation on this depressing theme: Trinity utility player Korson Hastings (0.237 BA/0.400 OB%) will play his COVID year at UT-Dallas.  His dad says "Korson's plan is to work for a masters in finance while continuing to play ball. He will redshirt the spring of '25 (as UT-D is transitioning to D2) and complete his final year of play in '26."

Seems odd that you can take a year of COVID eligibility after redshirting, but maybe the transfer/D2 rules allow that.

Looks like it will be a long year in Sherman as Trinity puts 56 runs on the 'Roos in opening weekend, sweeping the series 10-2, 27-4, 19-8 (8 inn - RR).

McMurry is 5-1. They took the Concordia Tx series 2-1. In opening weekend, they swept Huntingdon, Rhodes and Lagrange. Coach Lee is hoping to make the 4-team playoff.

Trinity gets a 5-2 win in the first game of the weekend set against a very good (11-3) McMurry team to improve to 10-1 early in the season.  Have to admit they are exceeding my expectations given their losses on the mound entering the year.

Early returns are mixed for those transfers.  Jackson Teer is 0-2 with a 7.45 ERA in his three starts at Texas State; Joseph Chavana is 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in three starts and one relief (credited with the win in a one inning appearance) at Xavier.

TUTx swept McM, 5-2, 5-1 & 6-5.
TUTx scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th in Sunday's game on 4 hits a BB & a catcher's interference. McM needed at least 1 win for Pool C consideration. TUTx looks like a lock for the postseason.
