flight, my son won't be facing him as an injury ended his career.  But, during the time he was playing, he had plenty of AB's off Homer Bailey.

I'm sorry to hear about the injury and I hope you didn't think I was in any way singling you or your son out.  Just making an open ended comment to anyone out there who might happen to play against OU.

OGLETHORPE comes back from 3 down in the 9th to shock Georgia State.  The Petrels pull off a most unlikely comeback win to beat the Ga State Panthers 14-13 in a slugfest.  Andy Farrey hits a 3 run homer in the top of the 9th and Sarisky comes in, in the 9th and strikes out the side... hitting 96 on the last pitch of the game!

BOY THIS SURE IS A HUGE WIN FOR THE PETRELS!

Good one, Petrel.  Too bad the date is what it is...

Petrel had me going, had to look up GSU's box score myself (14-7). Looks like the offense did well, probably saw some good pitching.

FlightofthePetrel

Sorry... Had to pull that lil April Fool's joke.

All joking aside the Petrels seemed to be very competitive today against Ga State.  Take away a 6 run inning that Ga State had and it's only 8-7.  Not sure who Ga State threw and where they stacked up in the rotation but it looks like OU didn't throw anyone more than 2 or so innnings... obviosuly saving their vital arms for the series this weekend.  I'd be interested to see what the outcome of this game would be if OU could throw their aces... looks like the offense would have faired fairly well either way.

Farrey had another solid day for OU as he continues to see his average rise...  he continues to impress me game after game.

Petrel,
Everything is fine here.  I am enjoying reading all the OU posts and learning about the new found optimism. I know you didn't intend anything negative toward my son.
I have every reason to believe my son would have found hitting off Sarisky to be a lot of fun, a real challenge and a situation to get better.
The "sense" of reality I hoped to bring from my response is that the SCAC has players who can compete and succeed beyond the SCAC and beyond DIII.  Sounds like the OU pitcher can be one of them.
This conference needs more of them and that gets tough with ever increasing academic standards, higher costs and a down economy.
As Jack Parkman accurately pointed out earlier this year, even though TU has done extremely well since 2002, they have yet to get to Wisconsin.
Same with Millsaps.  The SCAC isn't going to get national respect in baseball  unless and until they either get a team to Appleton or others start to recognize that there are some spectacular players/students in this conference.
I am cheering for Owen, Bronson and Sarisky because I hope they get a chance beyond DIII, prove they belong with the best and help further establish the quality of play in the conference.  Having watched the success our's had in 3 years of Milb, I know it can and will happen.

OU takes down Rhodes in extra innings!!! Big win for the Petrels as they show they can play with the top of the SCAC.

And whatever speed Sarisky was throwing, it was good enough to strike out 6 batters in 3 innings, with 2 or 3 of those coming on 3 straight pitches.  This was a big win for OU and DePauw got a big win over BSC earlier today.

tonight was indeed a big win for OU...John Hale kept OU in the game by mixing speeds and keeping the ball down...the only mistake he made was one pitch to Mosby who hit a big 3 run homer to make it 5-3 Rhodes in the 5th...but OU fought its way back and scrapped together two runs to tie it with one in the 6th and one in the 8th...spencer kennedy went the 6th and 7th and pitched 2 perfect innings and then Daniel Sarisky came on and pitched 3 innings to get the win...he struck out 6 and was clocked between 91-94 and topped at 95 a few times again...this is a very big win for OU as they beat Holt and Babich but they still need to take care of business and make sure they win 2 out of 3...this win is big but its only big if OU comes out ready to play tomorrow and Sunday...I sure hope this win gives the Petrels a big confidence boost as they should know now they can play with the big boys...also of note is that freshman 2B Jake Spear went 3 for 4 with a huge double to lead off the 10th and played flawless defense

Now maybe Rhodes can validate that this kid (Sarisky) can throw absolute gas.  Why don't you as Mosby...  he fanned twice!

For those interested the Alumni game will be played tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a ceremony coming beforehand to honor a former Petrel Josh  Blythe who donned the black and gold only a few years ago.  We lost Josh much sooner than necessary but we will forever remember him for being the ultimate athlete, consummate Petrel and much more importantly and tremendous human being.  His number 5 in the Superman Emblom, of which he was known to wear religiously, will now hang on the right field fence where he used to play.

Good luck tomorrow OU and as always   GOOOO PETRELS!!!

Wow!!! What a 1st Game between Centre and Sewanee. Final score Centre winning 3-2.

-Centre's Jake Jones was very impressive sitting 88-92 all 9Innings and topping 94, gave up 5 hits with 11K's.

-Sewanee's starter also threw well, but I would have to say an extreme low point in the game was in the 7th inning with a man on 2nd and 2outs and the intentional beaning of the starter Jones in the ribs. It was bush league baseball. Guess Jones got the last laugh with a double to rightcenter to win the game.

It seems pretty logical to me to throw at a guy on purpose in a close game.

After dropping the first game in the 3 game set with Oglethorpe, Rhodes played some very nice baseball to win the next two games.
The first game was another error prone and brain cramp game by the Lynx, but the next two games they just got down and played solid ball.

Congrats to Mason Mosby who got his 200th hit of his career yesterday.  Just so happens it was a long homer to left.  Mason is having a great year.  He is also stepping up at third base and turned in some sterling plays yesterday.

Congrats to the Rhodes pitching staff.  Their line over the weekend was 28 IP 25 K's, 3 walks, 4 ER's.  This was against a Oglethorpe team that was leading the SCAC in batting average going into the weekend.  Nice Job!

Congrats to Coach C and Coach S!.  Rhodes got their 20th win Saturday.  They have won over 20 games in the past 4 years.  Coach C has done a great job since taking over a moribund program.

Now on to a tough Birmingham Southern team.  They took 2 of 3 from Depauw, at Depauw, which is tough to do.
Can't wait to see their D 1 facilities!

Mosby was a man against boys this weekend. He hit three majestic home runs, two to right center and the other to deep left. Tremendous hitter, but to say he made sterling plays in the field is stretching it a bit. He made 5 errors in two games and the 1B saved at least a few more. Rhodes has solid pitching, their top 5 hitters (minus a struggling 4 hitter) are as good as they get but defensively besides Bizzell they are shaky. They put themseves in a good position with a series win this weekend.
