How have the pitchers adjusted to that mound?

Is that field (Smith-Willis) laid out to catch the prevailing winds out towards left center?

It looks like it would be hard for the second baseman to convert the 6-4-3 DP late in the evening.

Good broadcast! :)

Final  TU 11 Rhodes 3

How many games will the East win in the tourney?

One?

Two?

More than two?

The West leads the East 20-8 on the first day of action since going to the 6-team format in 1999.

Top 7 Centre up 3-1. Centre looks to playing some impressive defense. Millsaps just had Owen thrown out at home to end the sixth.  Jake Jones, 5H 1ER through 6...
Could the East upset #1 in the nation??
I wonder what Hendrix is thinking right now?

Centre up 4-1 in the 7th. Their pitcher is sitting at 89-90 mph on the gun. Williams for Millsaps is 84-88.

Centre beats Millsaps!

The Centre pitcher threw an 89MPH fastball for a called third strike on his 141st pitch.

Stunner.  A real stunner.
Centre wins 4-2 over Millsaps.
So, tomorrow is Millsaps vs Hendrix and TU vs Centre.
For TU to have 20 hits against one of the very best in the SCAC is terrific.
The tournament just became very interesting.
Of course, I am not about to count out Millsaps.
But the curse of winning the West still exists.

Gus Sinski

 Oh. My. God.

Plenty of credit will go to Jake Jones, and for good reason. That may be one of the gutsiest outings by a SCAC pitcher I have seen in a long time.

But give some credit to Centre's lineup, which was infuriatingly disciplined against one of (if not the) best pitchers in the SCAC.

Now here are the questions:

• Is this the Centre that took two from Birmingham Southern then went back to losing, or is this the legitimate start of something?

• What of the rest of Centre's pitching, and the precipitous statistical drop-off that we see after Jones?

• Will Millsaps be shell-shocked tomorrow? Mentally detached because they're in the dance regardless? Or hopping mad and ready to take it out on Hendrix?

• Does the fact that Hendrix took two, and very nearly three, from Millsaps this year matter at this point? And how do the Warriors handle the shift from expecting a walkover to facing the class of the conference in a desperate state?

Man, I cannot wait to get to Jackson.

Gus,
this is where Coaches Page and Scannell are so good, in my view.
Jim Page will have his kids ready to play.
In my view, if they go two and out, they certainly are no lock for a bid, based on past experience...TU in 2003.
Jim Page will have those kids ready.
On the other side, Coach Scannell will get his kids focused on the job of Centre and will use what they did tonight to do that.
Frank commented on TU's ability to hit up and down the line up. They sure showed that today.  With Bronson only going 4 today and with Noah Solomon ready tomorrow(he is under the radar because of Bronson, but really good), Coach will keep them focused, even though the fans might well be looking to Saturday morning.
Finally, our son is coaching at TU.
When I talked with him before they left for the SCAC's, he made it clear that no one will overlook Hendrix.  He really likes your team.

Jack Parkman

I was just going to say the same thing....I think the only team in D-III right now that is assured a spot is North Carolina Wesleyan.  Going 2 and out in a conference tournament is not a good way to win the voters over, imo.

You have to give Jake Jones credit for being as good as advertised.  Aaron Williams and Drew Maddox also combined for a game normally good enough for a win with the only hick-up being 3 straight hit batters to start an inning and all three runners scored.

I think Millsaps will come back strong which is a necessity because every team here has pitchers and a lot of hitting.  One thing about this tournament is that all but one team will find themselves in a position of having to win 5 out of 6 games in order to win the tournament.  The Millsaps loss came early, but 4 other teams are going to end up in the same position.

As for Centre, their stats don't look like they have the pitching to win this tournament, but they are on a roll with the wins over BSC and now the win over Millsaps.  You have to applaud the way they have played and we'll see if they have enough gas to make it to the finish.

Wow what a game. Both Centre and Millsaps played a hell of a game. Definitely a pitching duel between Jones and Williams/Maddux. Both teams played good defense. But just like I said earlier, when Jones takes the bump that team firmly believes they are the team to beat. I think Hendrix is going to see a very pissed off Millsaps. Go Colonels!!!

Now the chess game gets interesting....!!!

Aces/#1 starters used... winners bracket confidence,,, losers bracket desperation...

Strategy, strategy...  tune in to the Millsaps or Trinity webcasts to see how it unfolds!

DPU 6 Rhodes 2 in the top of the ninth.

Final DPU 7, Rhodes 2.  Rhodes eliminated.

Ron Boerger

Hendrix and Millsaps tied at three after four innings.    Both starters still in (Hendrix for Millsaps, Suydam for Hendrix).  One of Millsaps' runs is unearned.  Both pitchers have calmed down after early jitters, with no runs scored since the bottom of the second.

Lou_Brown

Millsaps just made an illegal substitution. The rule is on page 79-80 under Game pitcher is not the DH (10-player lineup). Hendrix is allowed to stay the DH, but he HAS to come in for Boyd. Boyd entered the game as the catcher. boyd should not have been allowed to enter the game.

doesn't matter Millsaps is struggling...and looks like they will lose this game. 2 and the que for Rhodes and Millsaps!
