Looking at the box score, Trinity rolled again last night.  Everyone had a hit, except Evan Jones, who had 3 RBIs.  Through 20% of the season, the Tigers appear to be clicking on offense.  I hope it lasts....

What Evan Jones is doing to a baseball right now is just silly. I especially like the 10 BBs to the 1K, which is a good indication that while he's probably not going to hit .600 (ha) he's primed for a great season at the plate.

Kyle Felix can swing it as well and it seem Scannell has gone out and gotten a great crop of young guys including his freshman middle infield tandem.

(Granted, they certainly haven't faced great pitching at this point yet either).

The question marks do seem to reside on the bump where Robertson has been sub par, and there's some question marks about the depth. Hunter certainly has a high ceiling, though the fastball's been a little flat in the past & command inconsistent. Be interesting to see if he can eat some some midweek innings if Robertson doesn't come around.

You are correct. Junior Mark Hoban went 8 and 1/3 for the win. OU now has wins over both Piedmont and Emory so far this young season. The bats are on fire and now the arms are getting there too. Hope we keep it up!!!

Millsaps lost their first game of the season, falling 9-6 to Mississippi College with most of the damage being done by MC putting up a 7-spot in the top of the first.

The good news is that Millsaps went with all newcomers on the mound yesterday and a combo of freshmen held MC to 2 runs after that initial outburst.  The bad news, other than losing the game, is that Millsaps chipped away but could never put together a big inning.  I believe they scored twice on plays where the batter grounded into a DP.  It's nice to get a run, but sacrificing 2 outs for one run is a rally killer.

Of course, Millsaps is extremely inexperienced at the moment.  Newcomers at 2nd, SS, and 3rd.  An infielder making the transition to playing leftfield.  A sophomore who rarely played last year taking over in right.  A lot of new pitchers. All things considered 5-1 is a nice start and with Aaron Williams, Shelby Robertson, and Boomer Hudson ready to go this weekend, I hope to see Millsaps get to 7-1.  But, it is a team that is getting acclimated and I expect to see Millsaps improve a lot as the season progresses.

You might see some of Robertson's innings go to Ben Klimmesh.  He might have turned a corner from last year with back to back solid outings so far this year.

Hopefully they can figure out the back end of the staff while the bats are still hot.....

JSG,
Hall, Franke and Clements can really play. I hope you get to see them soon. They will make some freshman mistakes for sure.  The great thing right now is Jones and Felix and some other upper classmen are hitting so well and Panozzo and Solomon are pitching well so the freshman are able to transition without too much pressure.
With that said, Hall, Franke and Clements will be way better in April than they are now and they are certainly, according to the coaching staff, right there with the best Coach Scannell has recruited to Trinity.
By April, that will be a line up of 9 very tough outs.
In talking with Coach Smith, he has a lot of good arms and there seems to be healthy competition. Hopefully, that will result with some quality pitchers elevating their game.  As tigerfan said, Klimesh has had two quality starts and looks like he can add a lot.  They will need some others.

Hello to the regulars. This is the first of what will probably be many posts about Hendrix and the SCAC.

First Congrats to Millsaps.

Second Boooo Hendrix.  This team is much better than they played today and I think the series at Hendrix will be a good one.  I think being jerked around for 4 days, then traveling late presented some hurdles those guys and they will get it together before the next meeting.

On a slightly older topic I don't think I saw anyone mention the issue of tuition when discussing Hendrix's small recruiting class this year.  I believe there was a solid line up some of which was lost when Hendrix announced an increase in tuition.

Does this seem likely?

Hoping for another great Hendrix season!

Welcome Wheeler! Both fists in the air!!!

Oglethorpe beats Atlanta Christian today 11-2. Makes OU 4-1 on the young season. Tough games coming up with Washington and Lee (2-21 & 22) and Lagrange (2-23). OU is really looking good thus far. These next three games will be a good test for the battling Petrels. Last night Hoban went 8 1/3 with 10K's and 2ER. Tonight Cornwell pitched 8 and gave up just the two runs. Awesome fun! ;D ;D ;D 8-)

JSG.... stay tuned,,, Trinity is only going to get BETTER!  If Clint can 'find it' after his long rehab,,,  ADD him to the mix!

The Southwestern baseball homepage says that today's SCAC opener against Millsaps has been pushed back to 3:00.

The Southwestern baseball schedule and results shows that Millsaps beat Southwestern today 3-2.

Based on the live stats, I believe they have posted a softball score to the baseball results in error, but I hope they are correct in predicting a Millsaps victory.  A 3-2 score would be fine, just as long as it's a Millsaps win.

Austin College scored one in the bottom of the 7th to take the first game of a DH 2-1 over Hendrix.  Second game to follow soon.  Live stats at:

Millsaps got two runners on in the top of the first and grounded into a DP.  Southwestern then scored 4 runs before Millsaps got the first out, helped partially by an error.  Southwestern has the based load with just one out so Millsaps is in danger of starting off another game giving up 7 in the 1st--hard to win games like that.
