Bit of a delay here in Sherman. Southwestern had to replace Brantley early due to what appeared to be some shoulder soreness, and the Pirates new pitching has been warming up for 10-15 minutes now.

There's been some real solid defense played by both the 'Roos and the Pirates so far. Andy White just made a terrific stop deep in the hole and gunned the runner at first.

Gotta love a pitcher's duel!

EDIT: And of course as soon as I post that, there's an error to keep the top of the fourth going.

Final from Sherman: Austin College 4, Southwestern 3

Southwestern led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the 7th, but Austin College plated four runs in that inning to earn the comeback win.

Millsaps wins 5-3 against Adrian College.  With Adrian being a 2010 NCAA Tournament team and one with high hopes for this season, that's a good win.  It's not in region, but it will help if Adrian is ranked in their region at the end of the year.

No detail about the game--I saw the score on the Adrian website.  Millsaps should be playing Piedmont starting in just a few minutes.  No webcast or live stats are available.

Trinity sweeps a DH from Hendrix today.   We weren't there for the first game, which Trinity won 10-2 in seven innings.   Ben Klimesh improved to 4-0 and allowed only four hits and one earned run in pitching a complete game.  Nick Pappas went 3-4 with 4 RBI, Kyle Felix had three doubles in as many at bats as the Tigers had 15 hits overall.  Teddy Smoyer (0-2) absorbed the loss after allowing seven runs and 11 hits in five innings.

The second game could have been a much closer affair than the final 8-5 score had not the Warriors committed a couple of baserunning errors.   Trinity starter Ryan Lucero (2-1) allowed 11 hits in 5 1/3rd innings, but picked off a leadoff Hendrix runner off second in the 2nd inning.  Kyle Felix picked a runner off first base to end  the fifth - and with a runner at second, there was no real reason for the Hendrix player to be so far off first.     Noah Soloman replaced Lucero in the sixth and went the rest of the way, allowing only two hits and no earned runs to pick up his first save of the season.   Hendrix actually outhit Trinity 13-11, but Trinity got a five spot in the bottom of the third, keyed by a bases-loaded double from Jonathan Hall which scored three runs.   Nick Pappas hit a solo shot in the fourth, his third of the season.   Hendrix starter Nick Richardson (1-1) picked up the loss, allowing seven earned runs in 4 2/3rds.

Trinity does continue to commit errors; one in the first led to one of Hendrix' two runs, and  three errors in the second resulted to two more runs.

Millsaps loses to Piedmont 8-2 Saturday evening.  In a nutshell, Piedmont pitchers dominated Millsaps hitters this weekend.

Despite being outhit 14-5, Trinity pulls a rabbit out of their hat with a comeback victory against Hendrix.  Trailing 7-4 going into the bottom of the 7th, the Tigers score three in the bottom of the inning, holds Hendrix scoreless the rest of the way, and wins the day with a sac fly in the bottom of the ninth.    Today it was Hendrix who couldn't hold onto the ball, with four errors contributing towards three unearned Tiger runs (including two errors and two unearned in the bottom of the seventh after two outs had been recorded).

Michael Bentz retired the only Warrior batter he faced in the top of the ninth and was awarded the win, his first decision of the season.  Gabe Levin (0-1) walked the first Tiger batter in the ninth and was charged with the loss.

My hat is off (now that I'm away from the bright sunshine) to Trinity for the sweep this weekend.  The Tigers have a seriously good team that can rake the ball.  They were locked in Saturday.  Kyle Felix is the real deal with a bat in his hand.
The Warriors played well enough to give me lots of hope that we will grab back the broom in Conway a month from now.  Our freshmen are settling in and contributing on the mound, in the field and at the plate.  And our fielding will be better, especially since we don't have to dig the ball out of the snow anymore.
The Trinity-Millsaps series in a couple weeks should be fun, but I wont be surprised if each of them has a tough time this weekend.  <insert cliche here>

I was impressed to see Trinity win the game on Sunday.  They dont win many that way.  If anything, they are usually on the Hendrix side of that game.  IF TU finds ways to win games without pounding the baseball, like they did on Sunday, they could be special.

Trinity wins another "real" college baseball game 7-4 last night.  TU got a good start from Michael Bentz, going 6 and giving up 2 runs.  The bats came alive in the 7th, scoring 4 runs and another in the 8th.  Klimesh came on in relief to pitch the last 2.2, getting the win.  He struck out 7, the other out was recorded when Kyle Felix threw a runner out to end an inning.  TU needs innings on the mound by guys like Bentz if they want to do something in the conference tournament......

... and they need to cut back on the mistakes.  UMHB did most of their damage in the top of the seventh (when Bentz was chased) thanks to two wild pitches, a fielding error, and a throwing error on a pickoff attempt.

Once again, though, TU was able to do some damage with two outs; this time, three runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Hopefully that trend continues.   :)

Trinity wins a pair from an overmatched NCCAA Dallas Christian squad, 5-2 and (in 7) 15-2.

In the opener, Ryan Lucero went deep into the eighth inning, allowing 1 earned run and 7 hits in 7 2/3 to improve to 3-1.    Matthew Tyndall relived Lucero, walked the first two batters he faced (forcing in the run charged against Lucero) before retiring the last four batters he faced.  The Trinity bats were quiet in the first game - Kyle Felix was 2 for 4 with a double and drove in two runs, as the Tigers could only muster seven hits.

The second game was a different story as TU erupted for 15 runs on 11 hits.  Nick Pappas hit his fourth home run of the year and drove in three runs;  Dominick Robusto was 2-of-2 and drove in four.  Noah Solomon went five innings to move to 2-0, allowing two hits, one earned run and striking out six.  Josh Fink struck out four in his two innings and allowed only one single before striking out the side in the seventh.  The 13th straight win moves the Tigers to 14-1.

Trinity will make the short drive to Georgetown for two single games at Southwestern, 2pm Saturday and 1pm Sunday.    Panozzo and Klimesh should be the starters for those two games.

The Austin vs Millsaps DH had already be switched to a single game this evening at 6 and a DH tomorrow because of rain in Jackson.  At just past noon it started raining fairly hard and there's really not much relief in sight.  It's going to be very hard to get all 3 games played this weekend.

After 6, Trinity 4, Southwestern 3. Both starters still in with only 8 total hits on a very windy day.

SU gets the win, 6-4, as Matt Stuart goes the distance, scattering 4 hits in his first start.
