I believe (correct me if I am wrong) that Mississippi was a west region school. The original question was if BSC or Millsaps would be sent to a west region. The are both southern region schools.

Given the cost of flying the NCAA really only flys teams that must. It is inevitable that at least 3 teams will need to fly to a west region (until the change the alignment, which I think is a year away).

My point was addressed to the question of flying a Millsaps or BSC which I thought was highly unlikely because of cost.
True.  +1!

The South Region can always use extra teams to fill the bracket.

With strong baseball programs, including Trinity moving back to Pool B in 2013, there will be another Pool B team in the West Region.

And to think that we thought Pool B was going away in the West Region with Chapman and UDallas joining conferences...

Ralph,

I don't want to seem too dense, but won't Trinity (or whoever wins the "new" SCAC) in 2013 still be pool A?

Assuming of course they add one more member to get to 7. IE they have Centenary now which gets them to 6.

I am new to the whole scene here but so maybe I am missing something.

Great question,

I think that SCAC may keep their bid if they have 4 core members (TU, SU, AC and UD) playing ball in 2013 and possibly 2014.

Centenary is not a full member until 2014-15.  I think that the conference may have until July 2014 to keep the AQ.

By then, I think that they need two more full members, because Colorado College does not sponsor D-III women's soccer and baseball and softball.

108 Stitches

It is my understanding that they are looking at add enough additional schools to solidify the conference and to keep their AQ. Football looks to be problematic...at least for Trinity anyway.

108 Stitches

I am not sure if it makes any difference but CC does have a womens soccer program. No baseball or softball.

Bmo

CC's woman's soccer is D1 to offset their hockey program for title 9 compliance.

Any report on the Fall WS in San Antonio?  Not many seniors on that roster.

Any prognosticators ready to take a early stab at the 2012 SCAC favorites?

I did not get to any of the games so this is second hand. The Maroon team won, but I have not seen anything posted as far as the details yet. My son tells me "this Trinity team can rake", which is interesting since they lost some big bats last year. They have a transfer and some pretty good looking freshmen that are going to contribute according to my son.

I asked him how it compared to last years team and he said he had no idea. Pitching should be solid with two solid starters in place, another one TBD from the returning crew and possibly a freshmen stepping up. Scannell knows how to recruit and seems to bring in freshmen who contribute right away so they will be competitive. They will be playing Chapman at home for a three game series so this weekend will probably determine how good or not they will be.

Millsaps moves to the Eastern division, so my guess is that Trinity will win the west and run into a Millsaps or Birmingham Southern a buzz saw in Memphis. Probably two of those three teams will move on to the regional.

I am new to the SCAC so this pretty much a wild a$$ guess. Your thoughts?

I was happy to see the post, as I work my way around the boards because this time of the year is soo boring! At least you guys are having discussions. Most of the other areas are silent.
When I saw someone mention Jon Hall, I went to the Trinity site and sure enough it was the same Jonathan Hall I remember. My son (now playing out East) played against Hall since they were 9 years old in travel ball as well as Colt, Legion and then played against him (and Klimesh) in high school, as New Trier was in our conference. New Trier won our state 4A championship their senior year. I was planning a business trip to San Antonio in January but will now wait until February so I can cacth a game or 2 while I am there.

It is a small baseball world.

Their official schedule is not out yet but unofficially they will be home on Feb 4/5, away in Austin at Concordia the 11/12th. They have a mid week series against Centenary the 14/15th. (These will be a good game as Centenary is dropping down to DIII next year and will be in the SCAC.) Then they are away. Another great series will be against Chapman on March 2,3,4th.  All these games are up on the other teams sites so I am pretty sure they are accurate.

108 stitches - Thanks! Actually, I'll ignore the bitter Chicago area winter as long as I can because I'd love to catch the Chapman series, hoping that Rauh would pitch. After reading about him tha past 2 years, I'd love to see him pitch. I never did hear anything else about what happened to him at the D3 WS when he left the game early due to, I think, elbow pain. Yep, that would be the series to attend! I just don't know if I can stay put that long!

Welcome the the boards, 108.

Centenary is actually in year-2 of the 4-year move to D-III.  They are in the ASC this season, before their move to the SCAC.

108 Stitches

Thanks Ralph looking forward to talking baseball.

RE: Centenary, I saw that they were in the ASC this year. Last year they were D1 if I am not mistaken. I will go back and look at the press release, but for some reason I remember reading that they would be eligible for the tournament next year, but I may be wrong. I took a quick look at their schedule and I see that they have a three midweek games scheduled against Trinity.  I would imagine they lost some kids who transferred, due to the move, but I would think they would be a solid competitor this year.

BBfan: I will be at the Chapman games, if you come we could put a face to a "name".
