Whatever Centenary can do in the SCAC in 2012-13 is for the SCAC to decide.  Their games will count as in-region contests, nor will they eligible for the NCAA tourney. Centenary games are not counting in the ASC standings this season.

I went back to the press release and looked at it and I cut some of it out at pasted it below. At least in the press release it looks like they will be eligible for the NCAA tournament. I am no means knowledgeable in this stuff but at least according to their release they will be eligible.
---------------------------------

"The move to SCAC is about optimizing the experience of our student-athletes," said Centenary College president David Rowe. "One of the great advantages of the move is the ability of our athletes to compete in post-season play next year and be immediately eligible for conference awards and records. This is something not available to us in our current conference because of our reclassifying status."

Centenary College will become the sixth member of the SCAC in 2012-13 as it joins fellow Associated Colleges of the South institutions Trinity University and Southwestern University as well as Austin College, Colorado College and the University of Dallas.

Might "post season play" refer to the SCAC tournament and not the NCAA tournament?

I do not believe Centenary College is NOT eligible for NCAA post season play for the National Championship.

Institutions must successfully complete year four of the provisional/reclassifying process, before they can be accepted as active Division III members. This why  Birmingham Southern has not been eligible for post season in baseball. In 2011 Birmingham-Southern, in its fourth year of provisional membership in Division III, was not eligible for NCAA postseason play. In 2012 it will be.

Sorry CDD3 but I am confused. The double negative means they are eligible? Was that what you intended?

Ralph Turner

No, Centenary is not eligible for the NCAA post season tournament until they finish the provisional period, in July  2014. They will be voted to full membership at that time, if they have completed the requirements to re-classify.

Game against them shall be considered as in region beginning in 2012-13.

I am firmly convinced of this and welcome a correction of my statements.

I understand the SCAC this year with the East and West orientation with Millsaps going to the East and Univ Dallas coming into their West slot. As I understand it for 2013 it will be Trinity, S.Western, Austin, ColoradoC , Univ Dallas, and Centenary, however CC does not have a baseball program. So this gives them 5 teams for 2013 as of now. How long do they have to get to 6 teams to keep their AQ?  Also any news on who the new adds might be?

I believe that they have 2 years (roughly til July 31, 2014) to find 2 more affiliates.

Centenary technically does not count in 2013 or probably 2014.  They will need to have 7 full NCAA members, including at least 4 full members and 3 more affiliates to get to 7.

Started a new thread for 2012. Last season as we know it for the SCAC.

OK I thought I would kick off something for the SCAC baseball for 2012 and I am going to start with series that will give us an idea on what the SCAC is going to look like this year.

First up TU at Dallas Feb 25/26

Early look at both teams against two potentially strong teams in the West and see how they look after both loosing some key Sr's. Have they backfilled and where are their weaknesses.

March 2-3 Chapman at TU.

Powerhouse West program coming into TU. Going to say a lot about both teams that potentially may face each other in the West regtional.

March 7th

Bsouthern @ Millsaps

Midweek tease on how the SCAC East might turn out. Can Millsaps step up the BS?

March 22th. Rhodes @ B. Southern

Can Rhodes program step up to challenge the SCAC East power for 2012?

March 24/25 Dallas at TU

Will likely decide SCAC West.

April 21-22

Millsaps @ B. Southern.

Potentially the deciding weekend in the SCAC East.

I am sure I have missed some things and programs, but after a quick look at the schedules to start the discussion. Looks like the story lines will be 1) can Dallas step up and challenge TU in the West 2) Can Millsaps challenge BS in the East. 3) Can Rhodes move into one of the upper echelon programs in the SCAC East (and new conference in 2013)

Is Birmingham Southern finally eligible for post-season play in 2012?  Would they be in the South Regional?

If so, and they play up to their expectations, the South Regional will likely become very competitive at season's end, with Birmingham Southern battling it out with potential teams like CNU, Shenandoah, Salisbury, Piedmont, etc.

108 Stitches

They are eligible. Not sure if they go South or West. I am thinking they might like to go north..... but, well that's not happening...
