RIP, Coach Mallon.

Ryan Lucero is the SCAC pitcher of the week.   He's now 4-0 (4 CG), 0.64 ERA,  with 31 K and an .124 OBA.
Hendrix' Collin Radack is the SCAC offensive player of the week:  .526 batting average, 10 H, 7 R, 10 RBI, 2 3B, 1 HR as Hendrix went 4-0 during the week.

My condolences to the Mallon family and Southwestern baseball.

Could Millsaps be the team out of the Eastern division? They are looking pretty good for a young team and it looks like BSC is struggling a bit.

Centenary is a beast, Centenary is a beast, can't say it enough. Too bad they won't be eligible this year, I have not looked at their roster but if some of those bats are back next year, look out!

My family and I will miss Coach Mallon... "old-school" (at it's best).  RIP old friend!

With Coach Page you can never rule Millsaps out.  I too hope that they and Trinity will find a way to keep playing after this season.

Centenary I think has two more seasons after this before they can be officially D3.  '10-'11 was their last D1 year, this their first year of transition into D3.   Will be interesting to see how they progress; like Birmingham-Southern, the transition from D1 whould leave them will facilities superior to many D3 campuses.

Wonderful! I think Coach Mallon would smile at historymajor's comments...and know what a compliment it is, especially considering the source. What do you think Bob???
What a wonderful baseball coach on the field, and unique person off the field.   He  might not have been fully appreciated for all he did off the field,  because those efforts were not unusual...just Coach Mallon.
What he did in 2002 to support the TU team, coaches, families with the death of Coach Meccage, while always in the background, reflect, so well, his values.

Was at the TU-UMHB playoff game last night watching the Chapman game on live stats ... ouch.   Hoping for a better outcome today.

Well at least Rhodes held Marietta to 11 runs in their first game ::)  They are probably happy Marietta left town.  Looks like Centre may be getting some good pitching now.

Trinity gets two one-run wins over Chapman after getting destroyed in the game Friday night.  Even got two runs (three including an unearned) off of Rauh in the game today to take it to extra innings where they won it in the bottom of the tenth.

Rauh is undefeated for his career (24-0) according to a stat one of the Chapman folk posted.  He came out at the top of the tenth and was not responsible for the losing run.

While the Trinity/Chapman series got all the attention this weekend, I see that Millsaps quietly destroyed a pretty good Piedmont team and is rising to the top of the SCAC East. Will be interesting to see how things play out as they move into league play.

A lot of people are very high on Piedmont this year, but I am not one of them. I think they are seeing what playing with a target on your back is like.
Baseball is not a game that builds character, it is a game that reveals it.

BigPoppa: Obviosuly, only time will tell, but I can't disagree with you more about Piedmont. They are very deep on the hill including two top of the line starters (Caleb/Caldwell) and an All American closer (Cook). Check out the schduele they have played and will play. 9-2 vs. Millsaps, Emory, CNU and Adrian, et all. They are not playing any slouches in there...they have Marietta coming up and then will dive into conference play. Now I will agree that the conference is weak this year but they don't back away from anyone.

Ron Boerger

I see that UDallas, after dropping two to Trinity, has gone 2-2 since with one loss each to Southwestern (5-12) and LeTourneau (5-8).  Schweiss picked up the loss vs Southwestern, allowing four runs (three earned) in 5 and one-third.

Millsaps played in a spring break weekend at Piedmont College and won the 2 games that really mattered.  The opening game was against Montclair State of the Mid-Atlantic Region, and while I'm sure Millsaps wanted to win, they couldn't afford to burn up a lot of pitching with 2 South Region opponents coming up.  Montclair won that game Saturday game 14-7.

Millsaps came back on Sunday to beat 15th ranked Piedmont 11-2 and today they beat Methodist 10-1.  That puts the Millsaps record at 10-4 with 7 games left before starting conference play in 3 weeks.  It still feels very odd to play over half of the schedule before starting conference play.

One interesting stat--in 14 games Millsaps has 1 home run.  That's quite a change after years of guys like Garner Wetzel, Hunter Owens, and Will Hawkins putting up double-digit totals.  While the Millsaps starting lineup would never be mistaken for the Bronx Bombers, this kind of power outage is stunning.  Even so, Millsaps has scored 120 runs in 14 games and 10 or more runs in half of their games, so they are finding other ways to get their runs.

Has anyone heard the format for the SAA baseball race in 2013?
