Trinity beat Austin College 4-1 on a very quick 2 hr game. There was no video feed, but it looked like Lucero was shoving it and getting quick GB outs. 4-11-1 for Trinity, 1-5-1 for Austin. WP Lucero. LP Tew. Save – Bentz. Trinity goes to 19-3, 8-0. Austin 4-15, 1-7.

Ron Boerger

The one run for Austin was unearned and came in the ninth after Lucero had left the game.  If my calculations are correct, Lucero is now 6-0 with an 0.92 ERA and an OBA of .149.

Trinity moves to #1 in this week's d3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25.  No other SCAC teams are in the top 25; B-SC got a single vote.

Also receiving votes: Rhodes 16, Birmingham-Southern 1.   Pretty good showing!

Trinity Game vs. TLU Cancelled

The Tiger baseball game at Texas Lutheran, scheduled for March 20, has been cancelled.  The teams will attempt to schedule a makeup date.

There have been thunderstroms and tornado warnings in the area.

Ron Boerger

TLU's website says:  Texas Lutheran's Tuesday baseball game with Trinity University has been cancelled due to wet field conditions. The game originally was scheduled for a 2 p.m. start today at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field.

The game will be re-scheduled. A make-up date has yet to be announced.

Seguin probably got around 2" overnight, so I could see them not wanting to play on the field today.

Does a Regional-bound Trinity hold this 40th regular season game until after the ASC/SCAC tourneys?  It helps break the "lull".

Would TLU use this as chance for Orosey to get one last start and a win to burnish his career records?  Would TLU need this game as a possible chance to get a Pool C bid?

Ron Boerger

I'm hoping they might resched after the SCAC championships, Ralph, we'll see.

The SCAC tournament has been moved back a week this year from it's traditional 3rd week in April slot, so that reduces some of the down time before the regional.  Seems like a reschedule post tournament would be less attractive if both schools are Pool A going in the tournament. But then again, maybe just getting on the field trumps any possible additional familiarity with a known regional foe.

Slightly off topic, but I think the ASC is lock for one pool c with the possibility of receiving an additional one.  It's still early, but no Pool C candidate has really asserted itself in either the NWC or SCIAC this year.  Could be interesting this year as there may be some 12-15 loss teams still in the running.

Pool C's are not picked regionally but nationally. There is a possibility the West will not even get a Pool C. A pool C could come another region and flown into the West. West have 4 Pool A's. SCAC, ASC, SCIAC, NWC. The last 2 spots could be filled by Pool C's in the region or Pool B or C's from outside the region.
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

That's true.  I guess the scenario with the ASC that could make things interesting would be two ASC teams go into the round of 4 tournament with less than 10 regional losses, and neither of them winning the Pool A.  But the more I look at it, that seems unlikely without two teams getting very hot, very quick.  A pool c from a different region in the West is very likely.

Crash:

There are only 3 pool A's from the west. The SCAC is only a west team IF a west team wins the SCAC tournament. About 1/2 the teams in the SCAC are south region teams. It is conceivable that there would only be 3 pool A from the west with the remainder of the regional being made up of teams which are not west teams.

Dogs days of mid season league play are here. Time for teams to step up and separate themselves.

BSC has quietly rung up 10 straight wins as they roll into the meat of their league schedule. If they keep this going they will set themselves up for the expected battle with Trinity at the SCAC tournament. Will Hendrix, Millsaps or Rhodes spoil the party?

Trinity chases Dallas' Michael Schweiss with seven runs in the bottom of the fourth (helped by two errors and a couple of unearned runs with two-out).    Tigers lead 8-1 going into the fifth; Ben Klimesh has allowed 5 hits for Trinity.

EDIT:  9-1 going to the bottom of the sixth.  9 K's for Klimesh.
