Trinity has another game with the bats getting the job done.
TU beats TLU 13-5, getting 16 hits in the process.
They don't use Klimesh, and bring in Lucero for the last out.
Jules Cronk who had a big day on Saturday and 2 HR's tonight.
The weekend at Hendrix will be huge.
Trinity has the pitching set up.
It looks like the bats are heading the right direction, and all the things they didn't do last week they did against a very good team...mid week!

Just got a cryptic email from a parent.

Trinity won game 1 vs Schreiner 16-4.

No other information.

For the life of me I can't understand why Schreiner has not joined the modern world of electronics.

TU usually takes their video broadcast set up on the road, and I am not sure why it did not travel with them today....Oh well I am getting the report done our board was expecting...

Ooops another update just popped in my inbox while I was typing this. TU 14 - Schr 3 - middle 6.

Schreiner baseball diamond is situated in an orientaion that makes wireless impossible and 4G non-existent.  I imagine that was the reason.

Maybe not, but you don't need a lot of cellular bandwidth to do live stats, and Schreiner needs to get with the program there.

Trinity's Nick Pappas was 8-for-9 yesterday against Schreiner (5 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B, 1 3B) in joining the career 200 hit club.

One thing I will not miss about the 'old' SCAC is not being able to attend conference championships.   USA Stadium is a nice venue but there's no way for the casual fan to attend unless they are located in the area.   I wonder if the SCAC will give any thought to going back to the old "Spring Sports Festival" model where the championships rotated around the schools each year?  Probably not, but it will be interesting to see what happens next year.

With the season-ending injury to Ryan Lucero, Birmingham-Southern (31-7, 15-1 SCAC [!]) has to assume the favorite's role for the championship - they would have been a co-favorite even without it.  That's not to say Trinity can't overcome them, but it's going to be an uphill battle and they'll need efforts like yesterday's six shutout innings from Tyler Barron.    Historical foe Millsaps in the first game will make the choice of starting pitcher interesting - Ben Klimesh has historically been able to provide a few innings of relief after a start after a couple of days, but do you hold him for a potential game against BS-C?  Not starting your best pitcher, especially against a crafty team like Millsaps, could end up dumping you in the losers bracket which is the last place a team with a short starting rotation wants to be...

As an aside, I bumped into Trinity AD Bob King on the way out of the game yesterday and he says they're raising funds to upgrade the baseball facility, potentially setting the stage for them to submit bids to host future NCAA regionals (the latter is my speculation).  No idea of timeframe or scope other than the upgrade will be done in the same footprint as the current field.

How much did the seep at the hands of Austin hert Trinity's Pool C chances?

Ron, from what I understand Trinity has all of the plans drawn up and approved for a redo on the field and they are out looking for matching funds. This would allow them to host a regional, and depending on what happens I guess a SCAC playoff. From what I understand the location will be the same, which is ideal for a field since it is right in the middle of the campus. The school has put a ton of money into upgrading all of the sports and teaching facilities and the baseball is one of the last to be redone.

I am not sure what will happen when the new SCAC conference fires up next year, but I am pretty sure they will not be going to Millington for a tournament.

I have no idea what they will do regarding pitching, but you have to win that first game otherwise you have to come through loser-bracket-hell, which most teams could not accomplish, so I would imagine Klimesh would at least be part of the first game, whether he starts and get pulled early or is held in reserve will remain to be seen. I can't tell you how many times I have seen a coach hold back his ace for a future game and get burned.

I would agree with you regarding BSC/TU. But I think it would be a mistake for either of those programs to look beyond the game in front of them as they will be playing some solid squads.

it certainly didnt help.  TU is 29-6 in region right now.  If they are a Pool C, they will have at least two more losses.  The west is going to be an interesting region to begin with, with a lot of conferences being down.  I dont think the NWC or SCIAC get a pool C bid.  So, you have the NWC A, SCIAC A, ASC A for sure going to the west.  If Birmingham Southern win the SCAC, they are a South regional team that could bus to Millington.  If Concordia does not win the ASC tourney, they will have at least 10 in region losses.  If neither CUA or TU win their tourney, it will be a tough decision for the committee to make.
