The Gents threw basically every pitcher on the staff at Trinity during today's game but after the Tigers chased starter Cole Thompson in the first (after an unearned run and two consecutive hit batters) Trinity won the SCAC championship with an easy 9-3 victory.  Zach Speer scattered six hits over eight innings, striking out five and giving up one run to move to 8-0.    It was 9-1 going into the bottom of the ninth; Centenary's two-out rally plated two but ultimately fell well short.

Trinity beats Centenary in convincing fashion 9-3, Soph Zack Speer dominates Centenary going 8 innings 6 hits 1 run. TU gave up two meaningless runs in the bottom of the 9th, in a close game they would have likely just left Speers in to finish it. Speers was pretty much in control all day and I think had less than 100 pitches after 8.

Gives TU good momentum going into Regionals with strong pitching, defense, and offense clicking. Should also help their seeding in the tournament.

Congratulations to Centenary who has an outstanding team, they got a bad break today with Sr starter Cole Thompson going out in the first inning after apparently injuring his leg slipping,  going after a bunt.

Next year Centenary will be post season eligible and should he a great rival to TU, TLU and the rest of the SCAC. Congrats to all of the well deserving Gents seniors, I am sure they are disappointed but fielded one of the better teams in DIII this year and should be very proud of their achievements.

Congrats to Trinity's trio for being named Academic All-District 1st team: Bentz, Clements, Hirschberg.

Well done, and well-deserved!

I just heard that our friend Bob Edwards (known to us as HistoryMajor) passed away over the weekend. Bob loved Trinity sports and was involved from the days his son competed to his work in establishing the internet broadcast program.

Bob was a good friend that will be missed by the families that he has touched over the years.

Very sad news.   Any further information (e.g. obituary, services) would be appreciated, ILVBB.

Requiescat in pace, Historymajor.  We didn't always agree but there was never any doubt as to your passion for and support of Tiger Athletics.

I picked up a few of the Trinity fall world series games last weekend. The team is very very deep at every position and there are some outstanding players that may not get much field time this year. Many would likely start on any other team. Offensively the team should be stronger than last year, which really prevented them to move to the CWS  IMO. it is too early to tell on defense. saw some great plays and others not so much. Pitching is also very deep, I think the number one and two starters are pretty much set, beyond this it will be a battle, but they easily have 4-5 starters in the mix plus a very deep bullpen. I saw pro scouts coming and going so there are likely a few draft picks in the group. While nothing is cast in stone as far as the season, plus injures, etc,  the real challenge for this team will be if it has enough to get past Linfield in the West Regionals. The potential is certainly there, will have to see how they all develop.

I believe they open the season with Chapman again this year @ home. I heard a few tidbits on their schedule and it appears to be much tougher than last years, but we will see once it is posted.

Most of Trinity's schedule is now up. Starts one week later also.

Much better than last year as far as toughness. Out of the gate, UTTyler, x2Chapman, x3@Millsaps. Then into league play; CTX, @ Hendrix for 3 mid-season break. About as tough a schedule they could make given travel considerations. Away games at Hendrix and Millsaps.

I hope that Chapman and UT-Tyler are playing.  That will help both teams.

Great scheduling kudos if they are!

No!  It is Chapman at TLU on Friday!  Great job!  That helps with the SOS of both teams!
UT-Tyler plays TLU on the opening weekend.

Looks like Chapman is playing TLU the day TU/UTT play and then TLU and UTT play each other. Good way for all of the programs to start off the season.

Chapman plays TLU on Feb 4th then play 3 with Trinity Feb 7-9 all in Texas. Will find out if Chapman is back or a just a continuation of the 2012 and 2013 seasons. New Head Coach, returning pitching coach and loss of one senior for Chapman.
This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball.  "There are three types of baseball players: those who make things happen, those who watch it happen, and those who wonder what happened."

WOW!!! Trinity leads 5-3 heading to the 9th with UT-Tyler.  4 batters later is is 5-4, no outs and bases loaded.
Trinity wins 5-4 with a triple play.  Yikes. So far, Trinity pitching is awfully solid.  Hitting needs to come around, sometime by Friday of next week when Millsaps will be a major challenge on the road.

The game I watched online ended 5-3 with a double play to end it. The Trinity website say 5-3 as well.
